There I was
There I was, ][_ordKheldar, waiting for a match to pop up to do my very first BR. I had been reading the things for 2.5 weeks now and I finally figured I had taught myself enough image workings and gotten enough ideas to try my hand at one. So I waited. And finally just got plain bored of sitting around. I then started advertising for someone and dragooned TheRubberDucky into my plan. I then needed another person. I got him, -Tool- and was ready for action, and then TheRubberDucky decided to leave. Damn. So I'm looking for someone else when lo and behold "The Duck came back, the very next daaaay. The duck came back, the very next daay!" I made a game with on the grossly overused lost temple PGL map. Here goes, wish me luck =). |
Today we bring you the one on one battle of.. |
-Tool-
vs
TheRubberDucky
On the map of: Lost Temple? WHY YES IT IS TEMPLE!! |

Here we have the starting positions, with TheRubberDucky in the right hand position and -Tool- starting at the bottom. |
-Tool- randomed, TheRubberDucky choose, and they both got zerg. Wonderful, I was looking for some talent (hehe j/k, I'm a very prejudice terran =). -Tool- sent his overlord to the left hand area, while TheRubberDucky sent his to the top. Both players didnt see each other - they werent anywhere close. Both of them maxed out their drones before making an overlord, but TheRubberDucky made a extracter followed shortly by a pool, whereas -Tool- set up a second hatchery on his ramp and then gets a pool. Good. We're getting some diversity here. At this point neither player has found the other yet, so no contact or rushes are attempted. Ducky upgrades to a lair ahead of -Tool-. |

At this point Ducky has completed his lair and is simultaneously working on a 2nd hatchery, a spire, and two sunkens (just in case =). Ducky then sends out a drone to the bottom and -Tool- sends out an overlord to the east. Seeing the spire and obvious threat, -Tool- builds an evolution chamber and Spores at his main and a few sunken at his ramp hatchery. -Tool- Then sends out 8 zerglings to see what ducky is up to. |

It’s the Micky Mousekateers Zergling Style! |
The zerglings run up the ramp annnnnnnd.... Stop?? -Tool- sends one up to Ducky's base, and loses it promptly to the dual sunken's ducky has set up there. Meanwhile ducky's muta force is ready for some action, so he sends them out overlord hunting. |

Ducky heads into -Tool-'s main base with his mutas, but is driven off by 2 spores and several of -Tool-'s own muties (did I forget to mention -Tool- had a spire?) Ducky heads east and run into -Tool-'s ramp hatchery. With no spores, (but several sunken!,)Ducky attacks it. -Tool- sends his mutas to try and defend the defensive base, but Ducky has the advantage in numbers. |

I'm in this bet!! 4 beers and a free ladder win on Verne!!
While all this has been going on, Ducky has expanded to his natural. -Tool-, in a desperate attempt to finish up the use of his ramp hatchery, builds zerglings with the larvae at the ramp hatch. Ducky kills two and four escape into the safety of the main. -Tool- goes scouting with his zerglings and locates Ducky's expansion. He attacks and does damage, but is driven away by a growing flock of mutas. While the mutas have flown off, -Tool- uses the diversion to build two spores at his ramp hatchery, saving it from the wrath of the mutas for now. |

Now ducky is no idiot and knows that so far -Tool- hasn't had any expansion successes, and wants to keep it that way. Ducky has the advantage in resources with his natural, and would like to keep that the same way as well. He goes scouting with his mutas, first to the left hand starter and then to -Tool-'s natural. An all out mutalisk battle follows, with -tool-'s mutas at 0/1 upgrades, and ducky with 0/0. -Tool-, despite the advantage in upgrades, doesn't have the advantage of numbers. Again, Ducky wins through Macro Management, but -Tool- doesnt retreat this time and waits till all the mutas are dead and as result, significantly reduces the number of mutas Ducky has. Ducky sacks the expansion and -Tool- has some major resource problems. |

All this time -Tool- has been steadily harrassing the hell outa ducky's expansion. He attacks with few but often. In this particular time he sent 4 zergling and dragged the hatcheries life down to 33 hp. Ducky says "Bastard" and starts up some sunken so its doesn't happen again. -Tool- is now at 0/2 flight with Ducky trailing at 0/1. -Tool- attempts another expansion at his natural and is again thwarted by voracious mutalisks. However, this time he has time to cancel and save his 300 minerals. (no, the drone didn't survive. HEHE.) |
-Tool- , tired with that annoying hatchery, finally launches an attack on Ducky's exp thats enough to kill the hatchery (remember that 33 hp thing?) This drives ducky to the brink and he assembles a Hive and a Greater Spire. He morphs three... Coons (im not telling ya yet :P), and a replacement hatchery at his expansion |

With a mighty roar three Guardians emerge from the cocoons, and head down to -Tool-'s base with 3 guards, about 15 mutas and some lings mixed in to boot. -Tool- panics and attempts to assassinate the guardians with scourge, and manages to kill to but the elusive third is well protected by mutas. So -Tool- crashes pair after pair of scourge into the flock and though the ground is soon littered with 7 muta bodies, the flock continues its rampage. Oddly, instead of producing more guardians, Ducky goes for zerglings, and is countered by zerglings. The zergling war produces limited result while the mutas tear into -Tool-'s base. -Tool- suicides his overlords, as seen here. |

Ducky gets a second exp (FINALLY,) but by then it has no meaning, for at this point -Tool- is finished. -Tool- concedes the game to Ducky and I say GG to both players.
Lessons Learned
1. Expand early. Had -Tool- made that ramp hatchery at his natural, he would have been able to match ducky for resources.
2. Upgrades are good but you need many units to! By my calculations, the 1/1 upgrades are worth it dollar for damage for defense when you have 9 mutas, 2/2 when you have 15, and 3/3 when you have 26.
3. Dont waste your units. -Tool- could've saved many a life if he concentrated on more mutas. Had he done that he could've gone toe to toe with Ducky's much larger flock and gotten better results.
Thanks for reading everyone, hope you liked it. It wasn't the best of games to do a report on, Zerg vs Zerg isn't all that amusing (I like terran vs toss 2 v 2's, each side with one terran and one toss.) Anyway, give it high marks, and thanks again!
