Distec {Purple} and ]=-Vegeta-=[ {White}

VS.

PeonRapist {Orange} and Nomad:) {Teal}

Map: The beloved Lost Temple

Distec draws zerg at 9 o'clock, his partner Vegeta draws terran at 12:00. Peon and Nomad both draw toss. Distec immediately sends his overlord to scout 6 o'clock and puts his overlord directly over Nomad's nexus. Nomad ignores the overlord for the moment and concentrates on producing zealots as does Peon.

Distec sends one of his drones to his natural and begins an early expansion. Vegetta obviously hopes that cancer will take care of his opponents so he won't have to.

Nomad's scout discovers the hatchery morphing and after a brief discussion with Peon, decides that the expansion has to go. They both send their first three zealots and nomad sends 2 probes for support in hopes of overrunning the zerg position.

Unfortunately for the Protoss warriors, 2 sunken colonies have morphed by the time they arrive at the expansion and with the help of some lings, Distec is barely able to hold off the rush.

Distec breathes a sigh of relief while Nomad expresses his feelings on how the rush went.

After their failure to destroy Distec's expansion, a sense of urgency comes over Peon and Nomad. Distec has an early expansion and they have no idea what Vegetta is up to. After a short strategy discussion, they decide to mass produce zealots for another attempt at overrunning Disctec.

In the meantime, Vegetta is busy making factories and expanding. He builds 3 facs and floats his command center to the island at the top left corner. He has his ramp blocked off and he is content to stay safely inside his base with 3 factories pumping units.

Finally, Peon and Nomad are ready. They have 12 zealots apiece. Each zealot is equipped with a speed upgrade and a +1 weapons upgrade. They gather outside of Disctec's expansion. By this time, Distec has a total of 6 sunkens and a few zerglings protecting the pathway to his bases. But it wasn't enough to stop the mad rush of the zealots of Aiur. They slice their way through Distec's expansion with only minimal losses.

Too late, one of Vegetta's dropships lands 2 tanks on the cliff above Distec's former expansion. They take a couple of potshots at the celebrating zealots below doing a little damage. Upon hearing the sounds of the tanks firing from above, the zealots move out and head for Distec's main base. Distec has been frantically gathering units to stave off the oncoming assault. Meanwhile back on the cliff, Vegetta loads his two tanks up into his drop ship and flies over to aid Distec as soon as the zealots move out of range.

The zealots arrive inside Distec's base and are met by an assortment of troops. There are a couple of sunkens, some zerglings, the drones come over to aid their zergling brothers, and Vegetta's 2 tanks land in time to do some damage as well. All the zealots are destroyed and somehow, the damage to Distec's main base is light. Peon and Nomad are disappointed at their failure to finish Distec, but they are happy that their attack wasn't totally in vain.

As you can see from the mini map in the above screenshot, both Nomad and Peon have managed to expand to their naturals. They have teched up to goons and templars and are working on pressing their advantage by continuing to produce troops, Nomad from 2 gateways, Peon from 4. Distec's next move after barely surviving the mad zealot rush is to build a hydra den, tech up to lurkers, and rebuild his expansion back at his natural. He still hasn't made use of his spire, or queen's nest. Vegetta has continued to build up troops and is just waiting for an excuse to use them.

His excuse finally comes when Peon attempts to expand to his mineral only expansion. When Vegetta discovers this, he lifts off the barrack that has been blocking the choke into his main base the entire game and moves his factory only troops out to war. He has 8 goliaths and 8 tanks. He sieges up the tanks and moves his goliaths in for the kill. Peon is not pleased with this sudden turn of events.

Nomad sends somes troops for support but its too late. Peon's expansion lies in ruins and Vegetta has pulled his troops back to the safety of his choke.

Vegetta's next move is to load up three dropships with troops, 4 tanks and 4 goliaths. He takes off from his base with a sci vessel for support and takes a roundabout trip to the cliff above Peon's natural expansion. It turns out to be a rough trip as the ships are discovered by one of peons observers en route and are attacked from behind by some of Nomad's goons. One dropship is badly damaged, but fortunately for Vegetta, his Sci Vessel draws some of the goon's fire and all the troops land safely above Peon's natural expansion. A small battle ensues with Peon frantically trying to defend his only expansion. He lands a zealot, goon and templar. The zealot and the goon draw the fire of the tanks and Peon is able to get 2 psi storms off.

Unfortunately, it's not enough and his expansion is severely crippled as most of his peons and his Nexus are destroyed. The cliff threat is finally finished off when Nomad lands his own zealot / templar combination and is able to kill the remaining tanks.

During this distraction however, Distec has researched transport and speed for his overlords. He lands a group of zerglings into Nomad's main base. The base is only lightly protected by a few cannons, a couple of goons, and 2 scouts (that's right, I said scouts). The zerglings are eventually killed by the scouts floating overhead, but not before doing quite a bit of damage.

Even though Nomad's main base is in total chaos, he has still managed to start a new expansions at his mineral only spot and at the bottom right island. Unfortunately, he only has 2 gateways and 1 stargate to produce troops out of. He continues producing scouts even though Vegetta has numerous goliaths. To make matters worse, Distec, seeing Nomad's scouts finally puts his spire to use by producing scourge. Scouts start dropping out of the sky like rocks and a couple of shuttles meet the same fate.

Meanwhile, Peon has once again attempted to build an expansion at his mineral only spot. This time, he is more crafty about it and puts a couple of templars on the cliff above the expansion. Vegetta has recently started a new expansion at his own natural and he spots Peon's fledgling expansion. Once again Vegetta, brings down his troops for an assault. He seiges up his tanks to begin the bombardment with goliaths in front for support. But before any real damage can be done, the air is filled with the crackle of psi storm. Tanks and goliaths start to explode and some goons and zealots move in to clean up the leftovers. As the wreckage of Vegetta's troops lies smoldering outside Peon's expansion, Peon decides that it's time for a counterstrike.

Peon and Nomad gather their troops and once again, head for Distec's battered Zerg colony.

Distec however has had time to rebuild. He has three sunken colonies, three burrowed lurkers, a few hydras, and a bunch of zerglings. Vegetta has strategically placed two tanks on Distec's cliff for some added defense. Peon and Nomad's goons and zealots make a mad rush into Distec's expansion unaware of the burrowed lurkers that lay in wait. Peon uses his templar to take out the tanks on the cliff.

The tanks explode spectacularly, but Peon suddenly realizes that the spines of Distec's lurkers are tearing into his troops. The observer that Peon brought in for such an instance had, unknown to Peon, been discovered by an overlord and met an unfortunate malfunction due to a couple of scourge. The only option left to Peon was to start spreading the psi storm around and hope for some good luck. A total of five storms crackle over the zerg expansion.

All of the lurkers met their maker that day, but unfortunately for Peon and Nomad, so did quite a few of their troops not just from the lurker attack, but also from Peon's psi storm rampage. With all of Peon's templars completely exhausted, there was nothing to protect the remaining goons from the onslaught of zerglings that came running out of Distec's main base. The attack failed completely. Not even the now defenseless High Templar are able to escape from Distec's zerglings.

Now Vegetta brings a group of tanks and goliaths south. First he takes out Peon's mineral only expansion with no resistance, then he moves south toward Nomad's mineral only expansion. Nomad still has 7 scouts for defense and Peon sends some token reinforcements that were guarding his natural. The three groups meet in the middle and a battle ensues. While Vegetta had Peon and Nomad distracted in the middle, Distec sends a group of zerglings into Nomad's mineral only expansion and makes quick work of the hard working peons there. Nomad brings his scouts back trying to save his expansion. However, the zerglings are able to destroy the Nexus before the scouts can finish them off.

Nomad now has only his natural expansion left mining minerals. The bottom right expansion that he constructed quite a bit earlier, seems to have been forgotten since there is only 1 peon working there. Peon's situation is even worse. His natural is the only operating expansion left and he doesn't have many troops left for defense, let alone attack.

Tanks, goliaths, science vessels, and zerglings roll into Nomads natural and completely obliterate it. Then, they move on to Nomad's main. A final battle ensues, but there aren't enough troops left to defeat the invaders.

At this point, Peon and Nomad have had enough. Good games are passed around and Nomad makes sure everyone realizes why he lost.

And the scores were...

My Final Thoughts:

1) There aren't very many uses for scouts anymore. They definitely aren't appropriate in a ground war esecially against ranged goliaths.

2) If you hurt someone, finish him. Don't let him rebuild and come back to haunt you.

3) Its very rare to see a toss/toss team use virually no corsairs, esecially with a terran opponent. There were many times when a disruption web or two could have definitely swung the odds.

Overall, it was a great game to do my first battle report on. Thanks to the players for making it so interesting. Oh yeah, and I wasn't AFK.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.
