Evil Chimp vs. tricky_d

I was looking for a decent game to report on last night, and couldn't find much, so I decided I would try the Nohunters channel. After about 5 minutes of asking around, tricky_d agreed to let me observe a game, but he needed an opponent.

After another round of asking around, he still didn't have an opponent, so he created a pubbie game =[

Seconds later, EvilChimp pops in, ready to fight.

Onto the basics...

The Game - 1 on 1
The Map - The ever so underused Lost Temple!
The Players and Positions -
EvilChimp - White Random Toss, lower left.
tricky_d - Yellow Random Toss, 12:00

(I decided that yellow and white would be impossible to read for you, my dear readers, so I am using red and blue instead =)

The two war tribes started out with destinctly different builds.

tricky_d went with a 8 pylon, 9 gate, 10 gate, and 11 pylon and zealot. The 9th probe also went scouting to the west.

EvilChimp (who due to not sharing vision with me until 5 minutes into the game, I didn't see his build as well) had Gas on 10, a Gate, and two pylons warped in. He had also just sent his probe scouting out.

The probes had a little chat as they race towards the other's base...

... after seeing the base of their opponents, troop production begins. tricky_d already has 3 Zeals ready to rumble, and sends them towards EvilChimp's base.

But EvilChimp already has 3 Zeals of his own at his choke, with two goons in production.
Due to jogging time down to his opponent's base, tricky_d's troops run into trouble...

(Notice the pretty early expand to his natural by tricky_d, the tricky bastard)

A battle ensues, resulting in the death of 2 of tricky's zeals, and I think 1 zeal on Chimp's side. Tricky's last Zeal (and companion probe) run for home, with Chimp's forces on their tails.

Both players have 3 gates each, a forge, and a cyber core.

Back at home, tricky is building up a force of goons in defense and sends two of the hulking creatures and three zeals out to slow down the funeral procession.

The small force is quickly eradicated, and the group moves to tricky's choke. Due to some great micro on tricky's part, and horrible micro on EvilChimp's part, the force is taken down by 4 Zeals, and 5 Goons. tricky_d has taken some probes from his main and saturated his mineral lines at his natural, while EvilChimp's natural nexus has just finished warping in, and has a defense of two pylons and 3 cannons, along with troops.

There is a pause in the battle as both players gather more forces to defend their rights to this section of space.

A group of 10 goons and 3 zeals from tricky_d move down in an attempt to bring down EvilChimp's second source of income.

A large battle ensues, during which some maynarding (spelling?) probes do a little dancing.

With high-ground, cannons, and overwhelming numbers, tricky's forces are pushed out of Chimp's natural, but not after losing the nexus to dragoon fire.
Several of tricky's goons were lost while ignoring enemy fire, bringing the total of the group down to about 4 or 5. A whopping -sixteen- of Chimp's goons, and a few Zealots, give chase to the retreating forces. Instead of engaging forces that he thought were waiting at tricky's main, he goes straight for the enemy expansion.

Not a one probe left that expansion =( *pauses in honor of the poor workers*

During his attack, EvilChimp takes an ever handy shuttle and drops off a probe to the upper left island, starting a naked expansion. Both players now have observers slowly patroling the center of the map, watching for any signs of trouble.

There is another pause in the battle as both players regroup, Chimp now his his natural back up and running, along with the upper left island. Tricky, not wanting to be left in the dust, expands to the 3:00 main, setting up cannons at the choke, but not at the nexus. He is also slow to setup defenses on his island.

Chimp's observer has sat and watched the lower right island slowly begin function normally, and drops off a death squadron of 3 goons, and 2 zealots.

Calmly put by tricky_d. "Ack."

Strange thing is, one of tricky's patrolling observers saw the two shuttles coming over the 6:00 main, but he obviously didn't pay attention to the observer's reports.

The death squad easily takes out the one-cannon defense, and rips down every last component of the enemy expansion, before packing up and leaving. The game is all but in hand for Chimp, he has a dried out main, and two expansions going, while tricky has a dried up main. In a last ditch attempt, tricky_d gathers all of his forces, and attempts to take out Chimp's natural. But on the way, he runs straight into Chimp's warping nexus at his mineral only! He takes it out, and a templar gets off a storm on the group, but due to some dancing on tricky's part, and the armored hulls of the dragoons, none of the group are lost. Feeling triumphant, he moves towards the natural of Chimp. An overwhelming amount of goons, plus three cannons, and high-ground goons, leads to the death of tricky's troops, and it's all but clean up now for Chimp.

Tricky concedes.

Great game, both of you.

Pointers for Tricky -
1.) Expand more. The only good expand you got was your natural, and that was pretty much luck.
2.) When you expand, have troops for defense! The three cannons at the 3:00 main obviously weren't enough defense. Same thing for the island.
3.) Watch what your observer's see. If you see a blob of white moving towards your island, try doing something about it =)

Pointers for EvilChimp - Hmmm... Corsairs would've probably been a good idea, you could d-web his goons, and use templar/goons to do more damage. But it worked out anyways.

Pointers for Me -
1.) Headers can be a bitch.
2.) This was a long report in the making. Rate me nicely =)
