Lifetime Rating for Laean: 3.2500 |  | Well this is my first report, most first battle reports that I've read in this site seem to have that line, but anyway, I hope you guys enjoy it.
Map: Lost Temple (Vanilla SC)
Your hero: Laean, randomed to red zerg, 12 o'clock
Enemy #1: something Assassin something, randomed to yellow zerg, 9 o'clock
Enemy #2: something Crack something i think, randomed to teal protoss, 3 o'clock
Well today was another boring day of an unending summer vacation. The only thing that helps me keep my sanity these days seem to be starcraft. Man . . . even during the church surmon today I was thinking about ghosts and nukes and stuff. Damn i wish UC San Diego would start already. Anyway, on to the battle report.

Although I wanted to check out this "nohunters" channel that everyone in this site seem to go in, I knew i wasn't good enough to compete in it yet, so i just joined a public 2vs2 match on temple. When i joined the two other players, crack and assassin, were already there. We chatted for a while, and no one else joined, we decided on a ffa.
While the numbers were counting down, I was just hoping and hoping i wouldn't get terran. (oh great there goes my gold banglaas) No offense to johnny vegas or heartcutter or any one else who's a regular in this place who seems to use terrans a lot, but i just am not good with terrans on land maps. On island maps like Dire Straights i like terrans the most though, those m&m and tank drops are just lethal.
I went 9 pool, and scouted 3 o'clock position with my overlord. my original plan was for some zergling defense with 2 or so sunkens, and a second hatch at natural, then mass hydras with more hatches being made as needed.
Well the overlord that I had sent to 3 o'clock found the teal protoss going mostly zealots with 2 gateways at his choke. He didn't get gas for a while. Seeing those zealots made me a little nervous, but hey, this was a ffa, so I still went for the second hatchery at my natural, hoping he either wouldn't find it or would be too busy with the other guy.
I kept pumping drones until I had a 2 to 1 ratio with the mineral patches and 4 drones on gas. As soon as I could I got a hydra den and researched speed. (which turned out to be a good thing) Soon I had a good economy going in my main base, had around 8 hydras or so, and was just starting to get some drones for my natural expansion when an attack force of about 12 zealots charged into my natural expansion.
I was like "oh shit" and built 2 more sunkens at my main and 2 more hydras, and sent the 8 or hydras that I already had down to greet our guests.
Well the hydras ran down the ramp, and I ordered them all to attack one zealot, and when the zealots stopped attacking the hatch and started running toward my hydras, I ran them back. Then when the zealots went back to attacking the hatch, I sent the hydras to attack one of the zealots again. It was a good thing i had that hydra speed upgrade, or those zealots would've had a much easier time with my hydras.
This was when the first dialogue took place.
Laean: "hey leave me alone"
Crack: "hehe"
Laean: "hey yellow, help me out man"
(no response from yellow)
Laean: "hey us zergs gotta stick together. we gotta watch out for our own kind ya know what i'm saying?"
(no response from yellow)
Well anyway, crack eventually got smart and sent around 5 zealots to chase my hydras and sent the rest to attack and finally kill off my hatch. then he proceeded up my ramp to take on my main, but by then i had stalled him long enough to get around 4 sunkens and another group of 6 hydras or so ready for him.
Knowing he couldn't take my main down with the zealots that he had left, crack waited until he got a couple of dragoons over b4 he started attacking. I tried to draw his waiting zealots into my sunken range with hit and run tactics with my hydras but he kept on pulling them back. Well eventually the 4 or 5 dragoons got there, and started to do some damage when crack suddenly pulled all his troops back. I was a bit confused until the next dialogue took place.
Crack: "shit"
Assassin: "die"
Laean: "what's going on?"
Crack: "yellow's attacking me"
(pause)
Crack: "I'm dead"
Laean: "yay! good going yellow!"
(no answer from yellow)
Laean: (uh oh . . . that's not good)
I only had my main right at this time, and just 1 hatchery. Knowing that yellow most likely had multiple hatcheries, I built a second hatchery inside my main base. But I knew this still wouldn't make up for the number advantage he had over me, so i built an evo chamber to research spines attack damage upgrade and also reasearched attack range. Soon enough, his 24 or so hydras came charging up my ramp and I had 12 hydras + 4 sunkens ready for him. I checked his hydras and noticed that they were at 0/0 and I was starting to feel optimistic when I clicked on my hydras and saw that they were 0/0 too. I was like "the hell?" That's when i realized that I had researched melee upgrade by accident. I was STILL optimistic though . . . until his hydras just went around my sunkens and started attacking my drones and extractor out of sunken range. I attacked with all the drones and all the hydras, while trying to lure the opponent's hydras into my sunken range. I barely survive with 4 drones and all the sunkens.
Laean: "shit"
Crack: "what?"
Laean: "you still here? I thought you were dead. I just did a stupid thing"
Crack: "what?"
Laean: "i accidentally researched melee"
Crack: "hehe those good ol' zerglings"
Laean: "i have no zerglings though"
Crack: "oh"
Assassin: "i have no upgrades"
Laean: "well then come and die"
Assassin: "you're dead"
Well by this point I knew the game was pretty much lost, but I still tried to get my econ back on track. While working on rebuilding my drones, I tried to, unsuccessfully, convert the fellow sc players into the belief of non-violence.
Laean: "hey let's not fight"
Crack: "what?"
Laean: "let's play simcity"
Crack: "hehe"
Laean: "you know . . . just build buildings and stuff"
Crack: "yeah violence is bad"
Laean: "yup"
Assassin: "you're dead"
By the time the second wave of hydras came, I had 1 control group of hydras, with 4 sunkens defending. This time, yellow did not even bother to avoid the sunkens, he had plenty enough hydras to take me out without doing so.
Laean: "damn, how many control groups is that?"
Assassin: "3, I have more"
(pause as my forces are run over)
Laean: "hey leave me a building so i can watch?"
(yellow's hydras attack my re-built extractor mercilessly and he doesn't answer)
Laean: "hey i just wanna obse--"
B.net: "your sorry ass has been eliminated"
Assassin: "gg"
Laean: (in the process of writing: "i told you to leave me a building so i could watch, you bitc---")
Lessons Learned (I hear you can't get a gold banglaas without these)
1. Micro is hard but worth it
2. Don't research melee if your using hydras, it doesn't help much
3. Place sunkens better so it covers the drones
4. Don't expand too early when you know the opponent is going hard zealots
5. Don't just scout with overlords, they'r too slow. You need to use peons and they gotta have cool names. (shouldn't have mentioned i didn't scout with a peon, there goes my silver banglaas)
6. Malt liquor tastes good (do i get a gold banglaas now?)
7. This site is really cool except for when someone makes a negative comment about koreans in general just cuz someone disced on them.
8. Writing a battle report is hard.
