I know it's not Twip, & I know that this really should have been posted as news on the main page, but this is the fastest way to get the information to the BR.com people...Johnny, if you could kill the report & stick a post on the main page, it would be much appriciated. Or not. It's your site, you can do what you want with it...
But twip, you've got to admit, it's pretty cool. Even cooler is the fact that YRM's animations look better than the blizzard ones

Don't use this forum for a message board... well, unless you do it to inflate my head... hehehe.
I posted an unyet replied to post on the B-Net Strategy Forums for Broodwar asking if anyone knew for sure if they got this idea from me. I don't recall seeing it before, and the FFA did get alot of attention... so it is possible that they used my idea. If that was the case, it'd be cool with me if they admitted it... but it's not like I am the only human being on earth who could have thought of that concept. Possibly they were doing it before and nobody noticed, or possibly they came up with it at the same time.
The downside of doing a Minimap Battle isn't the time it takes to compile the gif... the downside is that you end up with about 100 pictures to filter through.
In my opinion, I like what Blizard did with the introduction, and I'm gonna modify their idea in my future Minimaps... however, their animations were timed way too fast, and should have repeated. I really had a hard time seeing who did what when it was timed at 1/10th of a second or whatever. I use a setting of 75... whatever that means. .75 of a second per frame is my guess, and while not "smooth" I think you can get a better feel for which battles were what.
Did you also notice that Illusa beat CJL on DIRE STRAIGHTS with TERRAN vs TOSS??? Holy crap!
Does anyone else think that the battle reports on Blizzard could benefit from a bit more attention to detail and more descriptive pics? Their pics are kind of just for decoration and don't really show much of the story, like actual large scale battle or building placement. Also, they don't seem to use too many paragraphs... very quickly created in my opinion. I guess they mean their battle reports to be more like a 5 minute news byte, which is also cool, but not like you can read here. (hearcutter, mark4, vegas, whoop, fls, praetor, cattlebruiser, etc...) |

Blizzard wasn't doing Minimap animations before these reports. Either they got the idea from you or they thought it up on their own.
Yes YRM, i did notice that Stratus won an island game as terran. Stratus is a pimp. 'nuff said.
The Blizz battle reports definetly need improving...but the people over there probably have better things to do than write beautiful BRs....

The reports on this page are far superior to Blizzard's and the ensuing converstations of tatics are invaluable to us new people. This site has helped my game a lot and pretty soon I might show my face around nohunters to get even more lessons handed to me. Oh well, YRM you own BR's and a lot of other people on this site are also great so keep em coming.

I saw a post a little while ago and the war room from a guy suggesting to blizzard to put animated minimaps in their reports and blizzard replied that this was a good idea and that they would look into it..
So the guy that suggested that surely got this idea from YRM report =) |

the locater box stays in the top right the whole game, some poor sap just sat there looking at the minimap takink pic ever 5 seconds....
that would suck :( |
