Please <I>please</I> rate it based on content and your honest opinion of the report, and not because of who wrote it, or the fact that it's "big and looks pretty". | Ok, this is the Officail BC comeback report. I think that it is safe to say that you have returned to your origional status. I give this BR a 9.5, because I don't really like BR's that have some kinda of story involved, kinda complicated, but this is the best of that type that I have read. Great BR CB, keep them coming. |

Thanks for the honest opinion, Slicer! It's definitely true that newer players and players with less experience will get more out of reading this report than pros. The dissection of the battle by the main characters was written with that purpose in mind.
Two main reasons to right a battle report, in my mind, are to educate and entertain. Many battle reports are extremely entertaining and nice to look at these days, but few allow readers to walk away with a little more understanding of the game than they started with. Sure, you might pick up a neat strategy along the way that will work every fifth game, but most reports don't discuss the less tangible lessons that can be learned, like countering, deducing strategy from fast recon, and unit counters.
Pros already know the important lessons front and back, so it would do no good to write to them. Instead, I specifically wrote this with the less experienced reader in mind. It may entertain a pro but it should educate a newer player.
Come back and read it again as if you had just beat all the single-player campaigns and had just gotten crushed in your first 1v1 on Lost Temple. Hopefully you'll see what I was trying to accomplish. By all means, stick with the 9.0 though; I respect your opinion!
And to Merf: The map was made by Sqick, who goes under handles like CosmosofLove and Azatu or somesuch. Just ask around NH in the evening. Surely someone there will know where he is. |

And just remember, everyone, that 9.8 (where it's currently at) is still the highest 9 ever given out. Out of 716 reports, only 11 actual reports have gone above 9.5. I'm content to be in the top 1.5% of my class ;) (Especially since 5 of the 11 are my own reports). Don't give Slicer such a hard time, or judges will feel compelled to rate based on general public opinion rather than their own take on the report, even if it doesn't agree with everyone.

Awesome. I'm rating this as a 10.0, even though the style seemed just a touch more... I don't know the right word... some people like high-brow, intellectual subtleness, and I prefer rollercoaster rides, doritos and general low brow kind of entertainment. Still, my favorite thing about this report is that it offers a new direction to battlereporting yet again, sort of a cross between Fiction and a true report. We are sure to see a bunch of similar attempts.
It seems that now it's tougher to get a really high rating... a month ago, the 4+ hours I spent on my last report and animated marquee would have brought a 9.5 or so. Today it misses a 9.0. Seems like standards are very high... I've been noticing a true difference between 7.0, 8.0, and 9.0 lately. You can get gold with a good effort, but you have to work your ass off for a 9.0 or better.
I'd work with CattleBruiser on a report if he wanted too, but keep in mind... Comic Book style and Epic Novel style don't always stir together very easily. Plus CB is the master and I am but the learner.

He ~CB~, I give it a 10 and not because you wrote it, either. Based on the reports that have received 10s in the past, this is definitely above those. This report is on the same level with YRM’s report although is it a bit long. I liked most of the attempts at humor and the “WarRoom” backdrop that you used allowed for comments and observations to be made throughout the report rather than just at the end; nice touch. I also liked the many references to other commanders, at least that way Tar gets his name in a BR. I think it deserves a 10 although slicer else did not think so and thus 9.9. This makes me want to go back and down rate the only 10 that I have simply because it is not on the same level as this report and YRM report. You make me want to be a better battle reports writer. :)

Well, since we're all telling everyone why we rated how we did....
When I was reading the first section, the pictures stopped coming through, and I got boxes with little red x's. I didn't bother to reload the page, because the text was so interesting, I could see the game in my head anyway. I prefer a txt-heavy style to picture-heavy anyway (sorry YRM), and this was by far the best BR of that type. Also, I like CattleBruiser's sense of humor.
But when the pics stopped coming, and I was just as engrossed in the report as before, that's when I knew it would get a 10.

Like so many people have said before, it's not everyone's cup of tea. You may like YRM's better than mine, or vice versa, but at least you have the choice of which to read ;) instead of visiting "Johnny_Vegas' Favourite Battle Report of the Week & Banner-Clicking Casino". Every author has some part to contribute, even if some parts of their reports are stronger than others. That's one reason why I still encourage everyone to write high-quality battle reports, even if you don't have a graphics program, or you aren't necessarily the hottest hack on the block.
Will: Of course the story is going to be crude and less spectacular. If I allow it to overshadow the Battle Report then this report becomes a work of fiction with a BR in it, not vice versa. Then, of course, it wouldn't belong on this site (hence the URL). The Battle Report should always come first at this site.
Perhaps only teenagers can relate to the protagonist because he is personified as a late teen/early twentyish type of person. I know for a fact that I don't always relate to quadroplegic hermaphroditic characters, simply because I am not a quadroplegic hermaphrodite.
In any event, I wrote the story/report for my own amusement and satisfaction as well as the entertainment of the people in the niche. If I ever switch to full-time fiction I'll be sure to look you up as a literary critic of my rough drafts!. Thanks for the honest comments!
Pork: I did leave EQ because of lack of time. If you miss two days of Starcraft, you're a little rusty but one game gets you back to your old skill level.
If you leave EQ for two days, you'd better be able to make new friends very quickly, because your old ones will be several levels ahead.

| Atleast save the bengallas thow. They rule. I have a level thats nothing but bengallases and rhynadons (modified with stardraft) who are warring. Unfourtunately The bengallas have warpblades with 60 damage a piece, and the ryhnadon have halo-misslies, which only target air units. (kinda imbalanced map thow) |

Good BR and intersting story line to say the least. It does get kinda odd when you don't know the map and have to relate back but...what do I know?
Maybe the owners of BattleReports.Com should make it so every link you click opens up another window to the banner think and automatically clicks it and opens the link they were originally clicking on...did that make any sense? maybe it did, maybe it didn't but it would be a hassle to do for the readers...they would of course get annoyed

I am looking forward to reading more reports by the masters, but us mortals shouldn't be afraid to report as well. There is nothing wrong with a 5 or 6 rating in my opinion. Ducky, what the hell is wrong with you... I think he went crazy with a computer near by and started Spamming about bats and Dune 2000.
Anyway CB, I like your style. I encourage you to write more reports with the newbie in mind. I found it helpful, funny and entertaining. I would like to see more story and humour to make it better. Nothing is perfect but you came quite close. I would also like to see several BRs on 1 topic, for this would more clearly show what you are saying.
Oh, and anyone who hasn't seen me over the last few weeks I was gone out on vacation and came back to a broken modem. I'm at a different computer now so the domain might be different. I will see you all and let you beat on me soon, hopefully.
