I looked at the code for the first few pictures, and I'm not sure why they aren't showing up. Perhaps the ALIGN tag needs to come before the VSPACE or HSPACE tags.
When I view source, and the links are cut and pasted, the pictures are there. Although only 2 small map and one small decorative picture are missing, please try to fix this if you can Johnny V. (typo? what did I do here? please fix)

Wow. This is a true masterpiece. An incredible battle report describing an incredible game. Truly, both the game AND the report compliment each other.
This definitely gets a 10 from me, because the outcome of the game was very much in doubt. It seemed like FLS would be able to power his way to victory.
I don't know what else to say. Saying "great" just doesn't do it justice. Wow.
For the record, I wouldn't ever bet against Heartcutter. More so in a FFA, where defense plays a bigger role, which is terran's specialty. It will be VERY interesting to see how the next one pans out, if Heartcutter gets targetted early by the other two... |

An absolute Tour De Force! Seriously, that BR should be used as the new definition of a ten. The only thing wrong with it is that it hasn't raised the bar in BR reports because I don't think anyone will want to compete against it.
The Tank Push from Hell shot was marvelous and the animated gif. (if that's what it was) was a sweet idea. And the use of the minimaps was quite smooth. Simply amazing, without a doubt the best BR on this site.

Everyone played extremely well in the FFA.
Elbow to the nose? Hehe. Unfortunately, that was fairly accurate. I didn't have any love for Mark however, and the reason was when the Zerg dropped on bottom center, the CC and a full dropship of SCVs were going to make an escape. No, they actually made it away from the Zerg. But when they were going to my main, they were ruthlessly killed by the lead dragoons. Grrr.
Killed in cold blood. Just like Deon.
Taking 12:00 was an ethically clean question. The zerg were going to get theirs as well.
Once again, this was a great game, and Mark4 and FLS are excellent players. I just hope I don't get gangbanged next game.

Fun Fact: The ratings only cover integers from 1 to 10. So, there is no way to give this report the 11 it deserves. Two thoughts were going through my mind as I read this: "Shee-it, this guy is really good at his graphics programs." and "Wow, and _I_ thought I had no life..."
YRM, you should fucking work for Blizzard and report games for a living :) You'd PERSONALLY increase sales when people read them, no hyperbole.

Heartcutter commented after the game that he didn't make many Science Vessels, and only considered making ghosts at the end to knock down Mark4's front door with nukes. Heart said that he didn't want to specialize towards one race or the other, so he made "all round kick ass units".
I saw about 2-3 vessels all game, attacking detection was handled purely by lightning fast comstats. |

Don't misunderstand... I wasn't "writing" for three days. It took one evening to go through 160 screen captures and write and outling. The pictures themselves took another day, and I wrote the actual report last night... so three evenings.
Photoshops 5.0 HolyAnarchy{GK}... I use it every day at work though, so I have some practice. Try a lesser program like Corel PhotoPaint or Paint Shop Pro in order to save yourself some cash. |

I have to add, that animated GIF of the minimap is truly brilliant. You realize that all I have to do is watch that alone, and I get a great idea for the ebb and flow of this hotly contested game.
I wasn't surprised that Heartcutter didn't make ghosts (only good against the Protoss), but the lack of sci vessels did surprise me somewhat. But then I'm rated under 1000, and he's rated around 1200, so I'll shut up now. :) |

This would have been a lot cooler if I didn't get my happy little a$$ handed to me =]. By the way, the eight probe drop is a highly effective technique, and I recommend it to everyone who plays YRM =].
I knew the final error had been made when Heart took my base with his BC fleet. I did not have enough income at that point to take another expansion, so the only thing that I could do was make a lot of templar and sit back for the ride. I should have let FLS have the bottom expansion, tried for an island, and just went along till the better players had it out.
I spent most of the second half of the game sending speed shuttle hallucinations around the map looking for an opportunity to cause trouble. And cause trouble I did. One of the interesting things about my attack on the 12 position with hallucinated zealots was that it made heart run his SCVs back to another base...right past the still active cannon defense of my expansion at that positions natural.
YRM may have had the right idea about the tank push, but I think he under rated my defenses. I had gotten about three good infantry killing psi storms in, getting over 30 kills. My darchons and zealots along with storm had accounted for three or four tanks. And heart hadn't even made it in range of my ramp yet. I had about 15 templar, three darchons, and assorted zealots ready to go, along with a few reavers. Heart could probably take it, but it wasn't inevitable. The real killing on a tank push starts when he tries to come up the ramp...
Anyway, FLS, I did say that the first person to attack me would die no matter the outcome of the game. It may have taken a few sneaky reaver drops and psi storms but it happened. And just so you know, the first person to attack me next game will die no matter the outcome of the game =]. It's not about winning in FFA, it's revenge.
As for the report itself, YRM has set the new standard. This is the best report I have ever seen. Agent911s reports, the official blizzard reports, nothing compares. I think in the next part of my ongoing dialogue with the PGL to be allowed to do reports on thier games I'll include this as a link =]. |

Second off: ~CattleBruiser~, your title as the master of the BR has finally been stolen, right under your nose, too. I always thought your BR's where the best, even though there hasn't been a new one in like.. ages.

It is unfortunate that the end wasn't played out fully. Please don't take this the wrong way, but with use of comstats, Heart would have realized that the cannons at your choke were all powered by a single, outer pylon, which could be yamatoed at range. Without the cannons, small groups of stimmed firebats could act like cracklings vs templars to you. You did fight well as Heart pushed in, but you also lost some "real" troops that I saw die... every loss you would take would be irreplacable, while Heartcutter still had the option of sitting there until he had clone EMP and nuke if necessary, but I believe that he could have used the first tactic I mentioned to take your choke without suffering catastrophic losses. Templar and darkarchons are vulnerable to stimmed firebats, and he could just keep suciding them in. Anyway, I really didn't want to have to make a decision, but I stand by the call and my logic. Your best chance would be to mind control three battlecruisers if HC was foolish enough to allow this to happen, and even then, I think this only prolongs the inevitable nuking of your base... but, a little contraversy never hurt publicity right? Good game. |

I used to love reading their BR's of the tournement games, but after finding this website, they pale in comparison. It'd be nice to see some high quality reports of the finals, just a thought. |

Yeah the administrators here at BR.com have a special "Admin" section. That's the magical place where Mark4 and I can delete reports and now edit them via the web.
Previously I wasn't really able to edit people's reports, without reposting them and deleting the old one. Now Mark4 or I can just click on a link edit the Title,Author, or report itself.
Makes it a LOT easier on me. When people mess up their image uploads and email me the pics, that's kind of a hassle but not too bad. I'll probably make another script to make that quicker for me to do. |

Wow, my return is important enough to be a news item?
Well, first, I'm not back to compete with anyone for a BR title, and I was never after one in the first place :) I was just tired of the average battle reports found on the old S&T and Shock's BR forum so I made a few to help get the ball rolling on quality battle reports. I was never a "BR King", I never contested for the title, I have no want to be the BR King, and reports like this one make me content to realize that I don't need to be. I'm just glad that I and the other stone-age BR writers helped people see how much more interesting the game could become with quality writing and editing.
Secondly, I will definitely not write any more BRs until I have gotten back to my old level of play at SC (that may mean playing all the campaigns over again and doing a fatigue-night on a single map on 1v1) because, in my opinion, the better you are at playing the game, the better you understand the strategies going on within.
Lastly, do I really want to write a BR and find that they just don't compare with all these younger whippersnappers? ;) Mine were pretty good for the time they were written, but the bar has been raised many a time since then. Maybe I should just stay hidden and cherish my Golden Age ;) Or write under an assumed handle that no one recognizes. Cow-With-Band-Aid perhaps.
And Mark4, if I team up with you and the splash damage from my siege tank is the first "damage" your men take, does that mean you'll kill me off no matter what?

Best BR I've ever read, YRM...hard to imagine one better.
I also like what Mark4 is doing here! He knows that this is a 3 or 4 game series, so he sacrifices game one with his "the first person to attack me dies" stuff. Then he follows through. Now he's got his opponents BOTH thinking they don't want to be the ones to attack him and MUCH more likely to attack each other rather than be the first to incur his wrath. Clever stuff, Mark4. I actually used to use that ploy in the old board game Risk; it works pretty well if you're able to scare all the other players. But for some reason i don't think HC and FLS will scare all that easily ;-)

You are right about one thing for sure CattleBruiser, if you enjoy a little positive attention in your day, and if you enjoy entertaining people, just put in a little time and effort on a battlereport here.
About skill level... well, when do you agree that you're good enough to report? I'm better than alot of folks, but no match for the participants in this game. I do think I have a strong understanding of tactics, units, and matchup strengths... If I waited until I could play Mark4 on an even level before reporting, I would never report. It's one thing to grasp the game, and it's another to be able to manage it fast enough in the mid or late game. In conclusion, I'm not teaching someone like Thorn anything in my reports, but what the heck... I'll postem anyway. |

I can however play 1v1 with a reasonable degree of success. I guarrantee that I'm good enough to kill one person in a FFA almost no matter what. And that's exactly what I'm going to do. It's probably not going to win me any games, but heck, I don't expect to win anyway. I'm almost tempted to just kill FLS the next game on general principle, but I guess I'll stick with the plan =] |

| No slight taken, YRM :) As for skill level, I just need to reacquaint myself with the various strategies and techniques so I'm at about the same level as when I left. You don't need to be GOOD to write BRs (I know I'm not!) but you do need to be able to pick up on player strategies very quickly to stay afloat as an observer. Having not played for three months tends to dullen the senses a bit. It'll just take some time to get sharp again. |

| mark4 is not eager to win in this game. It is very clearl as a toss player he can just hold back build large forces after 2 main and 2 natural. instead of that he attacks 6 o'clock with wave by wave of unperfect combination. there is another way to look at this battle, most conflicts are between mark4 and fls. so heartcutter is one getting the profit out of it. |

In all honesty though, Protoss do not have a late game advantage in Free for All against mixed races, because that carrier fleet and whatever WILL get plagued... and then there is EMP, lockdown, whatever. Now if it comes to a late game Protoss vs one... that's different. |

Crap forgot one thing... I can check on it, but I think the GIF animation program I used for the minimaps is FREE.
ULEAD GIF Animator... it lets you wizard import files, reduce the colors, crop, adjust the speed, and eliminate redundant colors... You don't need photoshop or whatever, and I was able to get a small, 80 frame gif down to... what was it... under 100k? pretty good size. It's very easy to do, since you don't have to individually import each frame, and changes can be made universally once you learn how. |

Shockwave, you are right to an extent... but I just don't see either one of these opponents giving much thought to psychological tactics... Heartcutter has nothing to lose in game two, so he wins if he simply cripples the player that he'd least like to face in game three... see?
I agree with Mark4 on this... 2 gas mines is not enough in this kind of game, and if you only knew how many times Heartcutter restored and repaired plague... carriers, arbiters and corsairs wouldn't look so great to you with 1 hitpoint... Plague is just leathal vs Protoss... and the counter is units like archons... but then Heartcutter has or will get EMP. Just something to consider. |

I don't know how/whether that is also relevant in the specific context of these 3 FFA's. I think I will try to adopt a Mark4 outlook on FFA's for myself: Counterattack whoever hits me first, even if it means I might lose the game. I don't know if Mark4 consciously does that for the same reason I would, but basically after a couple of months when word gets out, nobody will want to attack me first in FFA's. Or maybe they'll just gang up on me and eliminate me so they can play in peace ;-).

To OddEye... don't assume anything, watch for the next round in a month or so and find out for sure... I don't think we'll be playing on a maximum sized map though, since they aren't really meant for this few people. There is that one 6 player ladder map that starts on islands... it's in space... what the heck is it called...? Polaris Prime, that's it.

Does any one else think it's nuts that people are using a single match (and an FFA none the less) to claim that their is no imbalance in the game. Especially considering that as Toss what works well against Terran is weaker against Zerg and vice versa. And of course the fact that it's an FFA where politics plays a large role.
Just my thoughts, but I'm sick of the imbalance debate, and it's stupid to use this as a tool for it.

Hey Shock when me and my friends played Risk back in the day we would had a friend that CONSTANTLY make threats like .... if you attack me I will spend the rest of the game trying to make sure you dont win.... funny thing was he would do JUST THAT. So no one would cross him when he made that threat.

All I can say is that this FFA shows nothing about the true skill of these players. FFA is not the best concept of seeing who is a better player, but the battle report kicked ass and the pics RULED. This has to be the best battle report I have read on here, BY FAR. Hopefully there will be better battle reports to come in the near future. By the way, TERRAN OWNS ALL! =)

Too all the folk out there that are having report-envy and haven't posted any reports recently, just remember that there's always a call for well-written reports. Every report can't be the best; if only the extremely best reports are every posted and you discard all your other efforts, then how can you be sure that they really are the best? There's nothing to compare to. So just pretend that this one isn't here and start posting your 7.0-9.0 reports again.

I love you man! YRM always has the best BR's Period. Graphics are great, the writing could be a little more colorful but who really cares. I love the mini map at the bottom of the BR, kick a$$.
Heartcutter Terran's Rule. He could have just emp'ed his way into Marks camp, Mark would have had no spell casting after that.
FLS should have been able to take the game, he had half the board, but then again, Zergies do seem to be the weakest race.

Another Holy Grail refence alone "I fart in your general direction" gets the 10 from me. Plus the SCV standing in the back, not wanting to wash off the BC's, one of the funniest comments I have ever read. YRM could write a great report of 3 on 1 comp rush. As much as I love all this praise, and believe me, I eat this shit up... Cattlebruiser is right, START POSTING AGAIN! In fact, I hope that somebody out there is so ambitious that they put this report to shame, just so that I can read that one... but even so, there are plenty of really enjoyable reports to read, provided they get posted.
I just went back and Re-Read Cattlebruisers 2-2 River War report that got a 10 rating... It had pictures and descriptions of some of the most advanced 2-2 techniques you'll ever see in a game... and it got THREE comments. THREE!
So lets put this in perspective... Mark4, Heartcutter, and FLS played one of the best FFA games ever, and I just tried to do it some justice. End of story. Thanks though, it's just that, if this keeps up, soon I'll be popular with the 13 year old girls demographic and hated by everyone else...
BTW, I like the posts telling me which captions were liked best... my personal favorite was the spoof on the Michael Jordan/Larry Bird McDonalds commercial with the guardians... but I guess that's an obscure reference. |

ya, the top players lose because of very very small mistakes :( like having only 3 peons on gas :/
the game is more exicting when it gets into late game large expansion wars...however...play style...all depends on whether u want to win or play a nice long game....

BoomChild, that's weird that you are getting errors. I have answered the program question a lot now, but it's cool... I use Photoshop 5.0. In real life I am a professional Graphic Designer/3D Animator, and I have access to some cool stuff and I get alot of practice. The stuff in these reports is really pretty basic. You don't need the most expensive programs to edit pics like these. Try PaintShopPro or something... The most well rounded desing PACKAGE for cost is Corel Draw8 (you get alot of bang for your couple hundred dollars because it comes with so much). I may send Johnny_Vegas and Mark4 a list of techniques to edit pics for all of you who keep asking, but I don't know the ins and outs of every software package in the world.
Hey, Mark4, that's really cool about the other sites with links. You and JV should make sure to get the digimation link working properly and all, people could buy image editors through this site safely, and promote something they love. |

| Well, I never even KNEW about this site until I saw something on Starcraft.org about this report.... good gawd, this reports kicks ass. I've been reading some of YRM's old reports, I love the comment balloons. :-) Probably my favorite report (for the humor) was "Use the Force, Luke" (Daisy, hehe). I can't wait for the report from Round 2. BTW, something I kinda wonder about it if it would be possible to write some sort of program that would record Starcraft battles by recording the various commands given. I know there's something like that for Total Annihilation, and I think it would be cool to see that for SC. |

Brilliant. The game was amazing (from what I could gather) and the battle report was amazing. To think that Heartcutter and [FLS]Prozerran were evenly matched... then Mark4 delivered a small yet calculated blow to [FLS] which allowed Heartcutter to destroy him. Interesting that the weakest player holds the most power... the decision of Mark4 decided the game.
The "Tank Push from Hell" was a sweet screenshot : ). And the mini-map battle was interesting, although the speed of the action made it hard to spot the deciding Reaver drop, although I did see Heartcutter's attack at that position afterwards : ).

this is the first BR to be written in the comments section, since there is quite a big readership here...
my fren BON_JOVE was terran at bottom middle and his opponents were 7 computers of various races...
he bunkered himself in and wif the help of seige tanks he destroyeed all the enemy rushes while stealthily teched up to battle-cruisers... then he went in a counterclockwise fashion and killed them all... gg to him...
Lessons learnt
1. If u're terran build bunkers first they are very strategic.
2. And then build battlecruisers. they are very powerful.
