| A solid 4 gate mass is actually a very powerful tactic for PvP on python. Generally you can run over most tech builds without taking too many losses. Another tactic that ive seen used to great effect is the 2 gate harass into 3 gate speedzeal with archons. Very solid, but slightly weak against reavers and theres always the possibility of facing someone doing the same thing and getting out microd. |

Newb bashing? Isnt that a bit below you psy, I mean I can understand your theory of people having a bad start or something but honestly this late in season four everyone seems to have setteled into their own little nooks and you can probably easily judge their skills from their stats. I knew you were going to win as soon as I realized the zerg only sent one drone to expo and never even used a drone to scout your base.
Since you were noob bashing and had no real mistakes/weak points in that game heres a couple of general tips on your way to get out of the bottom ranks:
1. Expect cheese. Most people have either gotten tired or too frustrated to play anything longer than a 10 min game.
2. Expect preemptive counters to cheese. Much like the zerg going 9pool vs you, it was (hopefully) to prevent you from cannoning his nat expo, but he was noob so we cant really be sure.
3. Feel free to cheese every so often. Im not saying cheese every game or even go into a game with the mindset of cheesing, but if given the opprotunity to cheese, then feel free to take it. |

| Very nicely written reports Psy. (2 reports as of this comment). I like the classic reporting style, with good writing and strategic thought, cool stuff! The theme of "seeing how close I come to top 48" is appealing as well, and will keep me coming back to check your progress, nice idea. |

Well you didnt bash him per se, but you even said that the only reason you even played him was he had a losing record, and as I already pointed out, this late in the season poeple with losing records can be expected to play in such a way that would net them a losing record. And I define newb bashing as 'any intentional act such as joining a game in an attempt to face an opponent of lower skill for an easier win.' Im not saying you should be going after any B+ players right now (although the lvl difference means you wouldnt lose any points as long as your D or D+) but the only way to improve to be able to beat them in the future would to be to play people of roughly equal or slightly greater skill.
Just another quick tip since bluestorm is currently a map of the week and is hyped as a zerg favored map: If your going to be really annoying, put a manner pylon in the zerg nat and fast expo. However DONOT go nexus before forge if you manner pylon, though you can get away with it it can also be an insta lose vs a smart zerg. Ill post a rep of whast im talking about to help you. |

Ok, now heres something to remember, always scout with the probe that makes the pylon on Bluestorm, and if you see a 9pool then make 2 cannons before nexus. After that if you dont get horribly screwed by lings (like you did) then just tech to some templar and be wary of mass lings. Try to get scouts out to see when he takes his nat and how many lings/hatchs he makes. Usually your best bet would be to go dt/sair but if you are proficient at another strat then feel free to use it and make sure to go storm heavy temps mid game and keep a few around late game as well as storm complements archons and zeals quite well vs ultraling.
Another thing worth noting is that some zergs will not even take their mineral only when their third gas is simply out their choke and around the corner from their nat. This can be paticularily nasty if zerg decides to take their min only later and go with a sunk/spore/lurker defense while massing ultraling with heavy upgrades.
As for game 4, other than your opponents gosu depo placement, no comment. |

Ah, cool. I have enjoyed all of them so far. I can relate to the guy in game four! =)
Can you explain the structure of the tournament? What type of record would you need to get in the top 48? |
| #18 Psyonic_Reaver[166423] |
| bbb72-0-175-177.bendbroadband.com |
I always scout after my 1st pylon unless I'm doing some rush build.
Wakiki: Whoever the top 48 players are on the TeamLiquid team get to advance to play in the tournament for money. Right now there are 1000 players and I'm ranked under #200 for highest score. Xiaozi, Nony, Artosis, Idra, etc are currently in the top ten. |

I highly enjoyed this report. Excellent format. Reporting on your progress in the TSL is a great concept, I liked the bundle of "mini reports" posted together, and linking to the replays for each report is icing on the cake. Good writing too, not too wordy, to the point.

Nice concept, and I'm glad to see you playing more ladder games. On to the critiques.
First off, and this is a minor nitpick that probably only matters to me, but I felt like your container was a bit too narrow. Don't worry too much about it, though, unless it bothers you as well.
Secondly, your writing has improved greatly, but there were still some points where I was scratching my head. For instance:
"Sadly, I made the first mistake of thinking Yoz was going a quick 9 pool to scare me into making 2 Cannons before Nexus. Too late did I realize the folly of not building a 2nd Cannon sooner then I did and I watched in horror as 6 Zerglings took down my 1st Cannon, despite reinforcing with 4 Probes."
At first, I thought this was trying to say you fell behind in economy by making 2 cannons before nexus because you assumed he would 9 pool, but he, in fact, did something else. Then, the next sentence, there are lings in your base. I think it would be much clearer if it was something like,
"Sadly, I made the first mistake. I saw Yoz go 9 pool, but, assuming it was only to force me to make 2 cannons before nexus while he took an expansion, I only made one cannon."
Then your second sentence works fine, and it's quite clear what problem you had. A word of gameplay advice: on a ladder, always assume they're going pool to make lings. You will lose far, far, far, far, FAR more games vs a 9 pool by not making those 2 cannons than you will by making those 2 cannons and foregos lings for a hatch. The advantage that gives him isn't big enough to risk the entire game unless you're at a very, very high level of play where every small advantage is huge.
Thirdly, some of the pictures seemed kind of extraneous to me. Also, I'm not a big fan of the enormous borders. The storm pic was really nice, though.
My last little "problem" is simply the fact that the games were pretty poor. I understand (believe me, I understand) that there aren't great games being played at D level, so I'm not really saying I didn't like seeing it or anything, I'm just saying that I can't give big points on them being amazing games.
All told, though, I really enjoyed this. The format was great, the writing was straight to the point and some of the best I've seen from you, I'm impressed. I hope you keep playing ICCup, and keep writing these, as I'm sure you can do pretty well for yourself, and I've no doubt you can do justice to the better games you'll have as you get higher up the ladder. If I have time later, I may come back with some more in-depth strategy points, since I noticed a couple of things, but I don't know for sure. Either way, loved the report, giving it an eight. |

i agree with maareek that your container is too narrow, but i think it's a personal issue more than anything. also for those of us with monitors/resolutions from the 1990s, it's a plus. (not me)
i guess with the nature of reporting any game that you play in this tournament comes the fact that you will play some sucky games and bad opponents. although it is interesting to hear about every game you play on, just... try not to play bad games. i don't know what else to say. :-P the last game was quite entertaining, though.
another agreement with maar here is your writing. i have some of the same issues that you do in that i try to use waaaay too many words to describe something that doesn't really need it. just write as if you're talking to someone casually about the game. you would never say "too late did I realize the folly of..." to anyone, unless you're an english major. read something after you write it and think if you would say it in regular conversation.

| I am not all the way through, so I will not be commenting on the report yet, but I just wanted to pipe in and say that maar is totally wrong on game quality being related to game level. As long as both players are competent, you can have a lot of fun close games. That is not something that is reserved to the top tier competitors. |
