-You explained everything about Blizzcon perfectly. I felt like I was there!
-You described strategies in a revealing way. I can practically feel how the game plays (or at least I think I can!)
-You described the specific games with lots of specific details. I don't know how you do that; did you take notes?

Just finished. Great read man. The game write-ups were definitely fun, though I did wish you discussed other units and strategies. It could have just been that since you were playing the game for the first time and had not had time to familiarize yourself with the new units, you just went by the path of least resistance, but it seemed that no one really did anything more complicated than MM/tank or zeal/stalker. As a result, it didn't really feel like you were reporting on a different game. Still the game reports were fun to read and I am glad you had several of them.
Also, I definitely enjoyed reading about the other units in your description of the single player, and I am sure you would have been able to give a much more thorough opinion if you were not being hassled by the 20 minute time limit.
All in all I enjoyed reading this and thanks for getting this up so quickly.

oh my, first sc2 report EVER
the grammar could use some work, but having pics from blizzcon and pics from the game itself more than made up for it. also really cool seeing the latest news and seeing strats form from the ground up, though i do wish some more interesting strats would have been tried...i guess when you only get 20 minutes to a comp it does sort of handcuff you in terms of what you can do. sucks zerg wasn't in it though, i was hoping for some hot burrowling action :[

this was excellent. the report was basically everything I could have hoped for: your experience at Blizzcon, the games, the strats, how the new units fared, reactions to the shirt, etc. I'm glad you got to explain it to some people... hopefully they're reading the report now :-)
a few things:
- I'm surprised you got to play so many games. I would have assumed it would have been so packed that playing a single game would have taken hours of waiting, but that doesn't seem to be the case. . . about how long did you wait for each one?
- I overlooked the fact that you didn't have pictures from the games because I didn't expect them anyway. Sucks that they didn't turn out, though.
- the report with the 12 year old was pretty hilarious. That was the most interesting to read, too - you described it really well.
I was going to give it an 8 to round it to an 8.5 near the beginning, but the fact that you had a 12 year old teammate makes me giggle and feel sorry for you. The fact that this is the first SC2 report in the history of BR.com also earns you mad respect, yo.

Excellent! Even though pics of the games would have been nice, they were not necessary, as your writing conveyed the action perfectly. Even though I've never played the game (fuck you very much for getting to play the game before the rest of us, by the way) I felt like I could tell what was going on perfectly. The way you wrote it really clicked with me, and it flowed perfectly from blizzcon stuff to game stuff. Awesome job.

If you didn’t watch the StarCraft finals on Saturday, you missed out on some AWESOME games. There were TONS of people watching the tournament and overflowing the sides/aisles. I found the videos with commentary by Tasteless (and Kim!) for your viewing pleasure…replays will be available soon I hope.

Game 1 starts at 4:30 – Iris owns the crap out of Nal_rA with vultures/spider mines. It’s insane. Nal_rA does some great dragoon dancing.
Game 2 starts at 15:00 – The second best game of the day. Nal_rA plays mind games with a missing pylon, blocks off his expansion with pylons, and Iris does one of the sickest moves I’ve ever seen at 21:20
Game 3 starts at 42:15 – Not as good as the other two but still a decent watch.

Only game 1 is worth watching, as game 2 is short kind of anticlimactic.
Game 1, only available on youtube right now, split into three parts. The most exciting showdown takes place in part 3 but I recommend watching the whole game.

Thanks for the positive feedback and I'll answer a few questions now.
Because there was at least one hundred computers dedicated to playing Starcraft 2. I only had to wait in line around 15min. to 30min. and with the tournaments on a HUGE screen going on behind me, I could easily pass the time watching and walking at the same time.
Now again, I only reported 5 games out of the 30 or so I played. Only 5. I did get to mess around a lot with the Protoss and try different strats but they were all pretty crappy games vs newbies who didn't really do anything to stop me or my partner. (Mainly me.)
My thoughts on the Terrans weren't well dictated in my report for one reason. They were weak. Insanely weak. The best Terran could do was M&M with Tanks as the Vikings, while cool, aren't all that tough and the rest of the units are HIGH tech. Corbas, BCs, Ghosts, etc is ALL really HIGH tech and with a 20min. time limit... You just don't really get to see it. Same for alot of the Protoss high tech. 20min. just isn't enough to see it get done.
This brings up another issue... Will Starcraft games go longer now? I mean sometimes my games would end in ties. (With me trying to kill a floating barracks...)

I was the 2001 battlereports.com fanboy that got trounced in game 3. Appreciate the "so they said" ;p. Yeah was my first and only game with Terrans in SC2, they definitely are weaksauce at the moment. Wish we coulda gotten a rematch but o well. Aside from the time I got double photon cannon rushed (ouch), that was my only loss of the weekend. Nice report, maybe I'll start comin by here again.
And yeah that chick announcer was god awful for the pro shoutcasts.

Your talk of high Terran tech intrigues me, so I feel I must ask if you saw the Thor in action?
Also, I know there is a lot of speculation here, but the way it sounds the viking is kind of replacing the vulture. From what you've seen, will a terran player be able to build a couple of vikings, turn them into air attackers, and harrass overlords pretty quickly if the zerg dont get anti-air immediately? |

The Thor was pitiful... The Demo Video does it justice but in gameplay? It was horrible. The AI was a joke. "Attack Move over here" *Thor starts walkings. Gets shot at. Keeps walking and walking and dies.* I had to tell it to attack a target before it would respond the way I wanted it too. The Artillery attack was DEVASTATING when you could GET the stupid thing to work...
The Viking is kind of the new early game Vulture and yes, you can upgrade Air mode quickly and allow your Vikings to rule the skies. I would say, comparing it in SC1 terms, it would be faster then a Corsair rush. The Viking packs a good punch AtA but in ground mode, it was fairly weak against Stalkers (Thats where Tanks come in) but still good against Zealots.
The Cobra is the new late game Vulture. It has the ability to shoot while moving and can hover. It's quick and deadly.
Reapers are kinda like a mini-Vulture because they can toss bombs anywhere. (Long cooldown though)
Ghosts were spot on awesome. Also, you can build as many nukes as you want. Yep. You read that right Badme. Enjoy.

You made a lot of use out of the stalker. But we heard almost nothing about the immortal, which I thought was going to be the main Dragoon replacement.
Are they too high tech, do they cost too much or are they too specialised (vs tanks and other heavy units)? |

Sick report. Really, really fun! I loved your descriptions and my favourite part was definitely the stuff about the stalker micro against those marines. If your report would have had more of those descriptions and just a couple fun pics of the action, I'd have rated it a 10. As is, I say it's an EASY 9; probably a bit higher than a 9 cause I enjoyed it so much. And, of course, it's our first ever StarCraft 2 report! Can we get a new category?
Sadly, I wasn't pleased with any of the changes that have been made as of late. The mothership shouldn't just be a glorified arbiter. It should be a mothership. That makes the Protoss unique. So make it a mothership and give it a damn blackhole, plus the ability to attack air. Just nerf the black hole. I think it WILL have a blackhole though, but it was just too powerful at the moment so until they reduce it I assume they didn't want it at Blizzcon. Still - MAKE IT ATTACK AIR goddammit!
Also, they need to work on the Thor. And hts need to be beefed up. The fact that the carrier is back rizzocks, but I'd still want them to change it somehow, else the Protoss are just way too similar to StarCraft 1. I STILL DO want something new!
Anyway, 9! You are truly an enormous, but lovable, nerd. Thanks for bringing more attention to the site as well! |

| I'm kind of with Dag in terms of the changes (although let's be honest; Blizzard could put crap-in-a-box and we'd all still buy it) being made, there were many returning units between WC2 and 3 but not nearly to the degree there seems to be here. |

When you build a Cybernetics Core, you get the Stalker. In order to get blink, you have to build a Twilight Council which enables the Immortal. So it's not really out of the way. The Immortal kicks ass. Especially Terran ass since most Terran attacks activate the hard shield but I stuck with Stalkers because it was SO MUCH FUN blinking them around during battles, confusing opponents. Immortals are just straight up badass, blast you to hell kind of guys.
