| Yeah, when we entered town his first two comments were "Boy, it's good to be home" and then, after we returned from the sewers: "God, I hate this place." He did get upset when I called his family sand people, though... |

You're going to have an ... interesting time in the desert with negative lightning resistance. I advise hugging the walls to minimize flanking (you probably worked that out for yourself).
By the way, I noticed that you have your belt full of fat purples. I find that if I do that, I tend to wait too long before gulping a potion. You might want to think of using some reds. |

I'm hoping to be able to keep more or less behind my minions and, as you say, hug the walls and/or hide behind trees/corpses etc. Sadly, I realize this will break down at some point (where I'm out in the open and two bosspacks of scarabs split my army, or something.) I've been hoping to find a 2 socket helm to make Lore in (since I recently found a Sol) for the added LR and other nice mods but have not had the luck so far. If I can't find one of those, I may have to replace my MF armor for something with resistances. Hopefully that won't be necessary, though.
I had been having that same problem with the purples but since I have muled so many off into my stash I fell much more comfortable now. My main problem has been not using them on my merc in time, though. I didn't have this problem at all in the sewers, though, since I had to give a few juvs to my merc since he can't really leech any life back down there. I may change out for some reds, but I notice when I do that I end up using them on my merc where they do little good because of the time they take to take effect. |

ok so ur not hardcore ( would have made a much more entertaining BR imo)
anyway cool beans keep up the good work.
also to solve ur res levels in hell , either get a 4 pdimond monarch
or:
Spirit 4 Socket Swords/Shields Tal + Thul + Ort + Amn
Shields
+2 To All Skills
+25-35% Faster Cast Rate (varies)
+55% Faster Hit Recovery
+250 Defense Vs. Missile
+22 To Vitality
+89-112 To Mana (varies)
Cold Resist +35%
Lightning Resist +35%
Poison Resist +35%
+3-8 Magic Absorb (varies)
Attacker Takes Damage of 14
( what i use on my zealer atm, its pretttty damn good) |

I play single player, so no Spirit available. I'm probably going to not go out of my way to patch up my resistances unless I find good equipment to do it with, since I'm planning on doing a HC char for a BR later on and I want to force myself to deal with as many bad possibilities as I can. If I get to the point I die too much, though, I'll change out equipment. Right now I don't want to lose out on +skills or MF to increase resists.
I may change out one of my belt slots to reds instead of purples. Maybe if I put them on 4 I won't be so apt to give them to Zanarhi instead of the juvs.
Thanks for the comments and suggestions, guys. |

All-fear - would that be a freezealot? If not, what on earth do you do vs. IM?
Also, getting used to having low resistances seems to be an odd way to prepare for hardcore. The best starting hardcore chars (including the trapsin ... have you guessed yet that I like trapsins?) tend to have skills boosting resistances, and in any case, in hardcore, resistances are more important than anything else. |

Good read - admittedly puzzled as to why you maxed skeletons and yet I usually only see 10 at a time up in your shots (I'll guess you either can't get more then that to stay alive, or don't want more due to them drawing monsters). Even a few mages would add a tiny bit of damage.
You're making me want to make a real necro and not the melleemancer that I'm working on, though, so well done, looking forward to reading more. |

| Blizzard reworked how skeletons work in the latest patch. Now you no longer get 1 more per level. Instead you get an extra one every few levels, but they get a lot stronger as you increase the skill. |

Report updated.
Eumenides: my main thing is this is the first time I've gone through Hell difficulty and I'd rather find out things that will help me get around having poor resistances rather than having good resistances and using them as a crutch to not be as careful. If I find a homunculus, I'm going to equip it, but I'm not going to go out of my way to hurt what I currently have for resists when I feel confident I can compensate with good play.
Rune: hrt! after the site went down I pretty much lost interest in BW. I log in from time to time but never see anybody on. Really sucks about WGTCL, though. :(
BigD: As Raider said, the number of skellies is now limited. At level 20 you only get 8 skeletons now. My skill level thus far for these reports has been 25-26 so 10 is the max I can have. I think the next breakpoint for more is either 27 or 28 so if I can find some more +skills equipment I may be able to up the numbers there.
Mages I use situationally. I don't feel like they're worth it except vs physical immunes because amp doesn't really help them out and they tend to clog things up in some areas.
Thanks, everybody, for the comments. Glad to hear you're enjoying it. |

Ahh, I love it. I was just thinking last night while I was working on this "man I'd have already finished this guy if it weren't for writing this report..." and getting a little down about that, but there's nothing like comments like those to make it all better.
I think a report making the reader want to play the game is the best effect a writer can hope for. Glad to hear you guys are enjoying it, thanks for the comments. :)
Gogo psy, finish your report and maybe it'll give me motivation to finish my BW BR that's been on the shelf for months now...after I finish this series. |

Heh, maar, don't worry about your resistances so much.
I mean, I made it all the way through to Act IV Hell with negative 50ish resistances on my Necro in Hardcore. Just put on a 4 topaz armor, 3 topaz helm, 35% boots with a high restistance, some 25% rare gloves with resists, and whatever good belt and shield you can find. The rings and amulets are gravy of course.
The 35% magic find boots can be shopped off of Anya in normal, by the way. I boughts some greaves with 35% magic find and 39% fire resist, and some greaves with 34% MF and 22% lightning resist. The highest you can get is 35/40, and it'll only cost you about 13k gold. You could also gamble some boots, but they can only have 25% MF.
Running through Hell with resists like that can be kinda scary, of course. One time in the river of flame, a venom lord hit me with his inferno. I was running around, and it just sort of...you know...grazed my shoulder for a half a second. It took off 2/3rds of my health and scared me pretty badly! Other than that though, I hardly got hit.
If you keep the wall next to you at all times, and go fairly slow, you cannot be flanked ever. In the open areas, I cleared the edge first, then cleared the middle. When in dungeons and caves, I always made sure I had an escape route; a safe, cleared room at my back.
One of the nastiest areas in the game is the Durance. Dolls take off about 800 HP in Hell and I had less than that, so 1 hit would have killed me instantly. I literally would walk three steps at a time in there and it took like 40 minutes to find the stairs down =( |

I now have 3 lvl 77 characters and a mule filled with perfect gems, ready to rebuild my D2 empire. Maareek, you bastard ...
btw, I use revives a lot with my necro. When you get to places like the durance where they get stuck every 5 feet, I use a townportal to get them all back together again. Sure, I use up a lot of TP, but there is nothing like having a couple of dolls and vamps ripping everyone to shreds (so to speak).
Oh and, 90% of the time, the durance lvl 3 is in a counter-clockwise position to the waypoint. Sounds silly, but in all the Meph runs that I have done, it has only failed me about 1-2 times ... So, figure out which side the wp is, and then simply follow the walls. It works! |
