The writing seemed far too full of unneccessary vocabulary and nowhere near descriptive enough. Overall, I found it somewhat difficult to get through despite its brevity.
Expansion/mini-map updates are a good idea to have, especially on lesser known maps (though Guillo is a pretty well-known pro map). They may be a bit overused, but that is because they are so useful.
About the cannon opening, it is basically a given on guillotine that P will open forge-cannon-expo. A quick pool may be able to penetrate it, but it is really risky since you really will only be able to attack with those first lings if you even get them there in time.
I am still wondering what you meant by this statement: "Eager to find a counter to the ultras, Corbalt made a somewhat unusual choice:" since all the units in the pic you showed are commonly used counters.
Goons are a very good counter because of their range. Combined with a zealot meat shield, they stop ultras dead in their tracks.
Of course, ultras do not attack alone, which brings up the issue of countering cracklings. This is where the archons come in. Archons flat out tear up lings, crax or not. Though cracklings vs unsupported archons never comes out pretty for toss, any toss caught in that situation is probably SOL anyway. Goons and archons with a significant amount of zeals really make ultra/crax non cost-effective.
Dts have high damage output which is effective vs ultras but with their limited range and low hit points they must be supported by sairs to be effective stand-alone. And combined with other ground units their lack of range can quickly become a liability if you have a large group of them.
You missed a large amount of details and skirmishes (most notably the battle in the right where corb moved his goons behind the mins of Blue[<3 that move, btw]) though as you said that is probably from hurrying this along. There was also no real mention of upgrades throughout the report, even though this was a deciding factor in the game.
About the pics: crop out the information display, it just makes the pics look cleaner and smaller, use a border, and try not to position them so they breakup lines of text.
As far as toss countering ultras...the ultras, in reality, are more glorified meat shields than anything. They soak up damage while the cracklings (the most destructive unit in the game, at least in my opinion) do the real damage. Goons are the best ground unit to counter ultras, archons also do well, as do dts and reavers. Archons are the best counter to ultra/ling (though any build basically requires plenty of sacrificial lots).
Meh, most of this post was critical. :/ On the bright side, I would never have taken the time to point out all this things if I did not think you had a LOT of potential. And while I pointed out all those things, I did enjoy the report (and not just because it had a game with me in it [top right obs thx gw]) which is still what it is all about.
This was quite good for a first report. You covered (most) of the action pretty well, including pics and descriptive language. You had some strategic insight, though nothing unheard of or particularly valuable there really were not any glaring errors. All in all I would say this is high silver, not quite deserving of gold because of reasons already stated.
I would give it a six. |

I just spent 10 fucking minutes finding all the apostrophes in that damn post. -_-
BTW, dibb owns you all. And that comment of mine is long. o_O |

Definitely a nice effort for report #1. I enjoyed some of the cleverness with words (e.g. templars' pension plans).
A couple of words of advice: watch your tenses. You switched from present to past in the middle; I found that quite jarring. Pics weren't so hot -- they all looked like they were the same size, which gets monotonous, as well as leaving large swathes of the visual elements "unexciting". The alignment was also weird, but I can't know if that was your intention since this isn't your original document.
Keep on writing; we need more regular reporters, and you've definitely got potential.

| If you look up templar on www.battle.net, it says "status: pensioner of adun." I thought that was weird enough to merit a remark. |

| I really liked this report. I'm the Protoss in this game and I enjoyed reading the author's point of view on my and my opponent's play. I enjoyed the writing style, for example the comparisons to modern society were funny. The pictures worked for me and I liked the slightly toned-down use of them - too many battle reports have too much focus on pictures. This report talked about the strategies involved in the game and hit all the important events. Well written and funny. 10. |
