This was a good BR. A bit unoriginal in the layout/style, but that's forgiveable, since how many times can you see white on black before it gets old? Twice. Anyway, images were decent, writing was okay, but the game sucked. It basically was: Persians own on sea. Vikings own on land. GG.

Nice job Avail, the first step to greatness is actually finishing a report :) I liked the pictures and presentation (I should, heh), the old map style for backgrounds worked really well.
Game was kind of bleh, and was served without a lot of punch to it, I'm sure there are better games to be found - always been a silent fan of the actual videogame though - I remember getting through some history lessons way back because I played the original AoE :D
The writing felt somewhat derived of emotion, not horribly so, but left me wanting more somehow. It was a great quick read, though.

| Geez Eld, what's wrong with using templates? Their purpose is to make a readable report. You sound like saying "If the next book I buy is black on white I won't read it." I mean reports are to be read in the first place, goggling them should be second. |

Agreed with dibb/jv. I made them as an alternative to people who would otherwise (pardon me for saying so), make something that looks absolutely crappy. Some might think that 14 pt bold, underlined Comic Sans is part of the br.com charm, I don't. They are made to make reporters who could care less about the layout (or don't know any html), get a nicely readable and pleasing look.
Dag: I was talking about the single player campaign from the original, not the game itself. It had a nice narrative inbetween each mission - like about Ghengis Khan or danish vikings or whatever. Those I remember as quite informative. |

I liked the report. I haven't played AoE in a long while (4 years?), but reading this brought back some good memories. I remember the awesome LAN games we played back when we had two PC's and two laptops. My dad was working on computers, so we had four for quite a time :).
It's awesome that you managed this. I have been trying to make my first report for a long time, but I can't find a good enough game. It's not on SC or any popular game right now, so what can I expect? I'll try to get a good game sometime, and then you shall all bow to my writing prowess :) |

Mostly, I object to it because writing a report is a creative exercise, and what's creative about taking someone else's CSS as your own? I understand that without it it might look, well, ugly -- but I would almost prefer an ugly yet original stylesheet to a pretty yet (English fails me here) plagarized stylesheet.
So long as it isn't hard to read. |

I would of never started reporting without Lings style sheets. I had so many problems with getting everything to work right first time it was a relief to have something that worked.
This doesn't mean I'll use them forever, now that I've got the basics I can make my own, and get gold reports (hopefully). However, I feel for a first time start it is a essential curve to lessen the impact of the freaking cliff angle learning curve. |

WTF why was this not labeled in the color denoting "Age of Empire series"? That would have easily give it a +2 for the rating just from the coolness factor.
Anyway, I liked the layout/presentation, but like others said, the game didn't seem particularly exciting, there was no real conflict or back and forth, at least not as I understood it.
Also, not that my opinion matters, but I don't understand what's wrong with taking LinG's CSS templates, especially for newer reporters, when that is specifically what he had in mind when he made them. It's definitely not plagarism when they're made for the community to use. It does detract a little something from the...urm...prestige of the report I suppose though.
