My opinion on your 3/3 marines and hydra question

I think 3/3 marine still wins, because no matter what marine is shooting at they still did their 6+3 damage. Hydra shoot at marine at 10+3 but marine are small units, they are not doing 13 damage to marines.

Do I have a mistake here? Anyone?

#3 MasterOfMordor[4118]
Think of all the double posts there have been, prolly, what? 10? I say skip it and go for the quad-digit! 1000 :)
#4 Mind Twist, Official UnOfficial Rater[4120]
I declare ye to have a 10, because the people at Blizzard can be fairies at times.
#5 Slicer[4122]
Actually, a 3/3 Hydra and a 3/3 Marine do exactly the same to each other as an 0/0 Hydra and an 0/0 Marine. Damage is subtracted from armor before it becomes concussive or explosive.
#6 Blank[4125]
Slicer's right. The reason 3-3 Marines "rock" hydra's is because 0-0 Marines rock hydra's (with equal upgrades of course). Plus, they'll deal more damage to static defenses while taking less damage from them.

Good report

Blank

Being a fan of the entire series, I know that your quote comes from the Zork adventure games. That's where I got my name from. I think it's in beyond Zork, the drunk in the mill says "Ya want some whiskey? 'Course ya do!"

Oh and great BR man.

-Flathead-

#8 Dave`C`[4131]
Actually it's from Return to Zork and it's "want some Rye? 'Course ya do!" and is said by the drunk at the mill.
#9 Fractal_Wave[4138]
Congrats to Dave`C` and -Flathead- for getting the Opening quote right.
"Want some rye? 'Course ya do!", from Return to Zork, as spoken by the drunk at the mill, whose name escapses me for now.

MindTwist is my hero. =)

I'm not sure how the damage is computer with upgrade and all. I think it's like Slicer and Blank say.
Marines are more cost-effective than hydras, but there are usually so many more hydras than marines...Try this sometime: For every hatchery your zerg opponent has, lay down 3 barracks, and pump marines and medics. You'll be out-producing your victim as he'll have to build drones every now and then.
It gets a little ridiculous when you've got 12 rax churning at once...you really, really have to stay on top of your supply depots.

Zerg never upgrade because the suck comes from their Pool and not their EVO chamber.

I would think the marines would win just because of stim of and medics but if the fight was 1-1 then it would hard to tell I guess i will test it now.
#11 Templar of doom[4144]
Ok a hydra gets 40 damage unstimmed and some where around 55 stimmed but in a normal battle the regen doesn't affect it nearly as much. 2 rines win hands down vs 1 hydra because as 1 marine does the hydra dies but you can ever have the rine run. But the desturbing thing is that if there is a medic then you need 5 hyrdas to do 3 vollys or 4 hydra to do 8 or so and 3 and down can't kill the rine
#12 T.T.Boy[4145]
Great report, great writing style. I wished you would have told the whole report in fairy language, that was funny. Also more classic quotes and jokes sprinkled around the report make it more enjoyable to read.
#13 shockwave[4175]
Just to clarify the whole marine/hydra thing, Slicer is correct but I think the wording might have confused Alita99. The fact is that 3/3 marines vs. 3/3 hydras is equivalent damage-wise as 0/0 marines vs. 0/0 hydras.

A 0/0 marine does 6 damage against a 0/0 hydra 1*(6+0-0).

A 3/3 marine does 6 damage against a 3/3 hydra 1*(6+3-3).

So that's the same damage.

A 0/0 hydra does 5 damage against a 0/0 marine .5*(10+0-0).

A 3/3 hydra does 5 damage against a 3/3 marine .5*(10+3-3).

Therefore, 3/3 marine vs. 3/3 hydra wars are equivalent to 0/0 marine vs. 0/0 hydra wars. The observation is, though, that if the upgrade levels are unequal, it hurts the Zerg more than it does the Terran. 1/0 marines have an advantage over 1/0 hydras because the marines will do 6+1 damage whereas the hydras will do 5+.5 damage.
#14 Alita99[4204]
"Ah, I see," said the blind man.

So, who wins in a 3/3 Marines vs 3/3 Hydra fight (as Fractal_wave asked in his report?

Without any other unit support or stim, the hydras would win (cooldown rate of 15 for both unit types) due solely from the differences in hitpoints (40 for marine, 80 for Hydras). Unless I'm missing something else... =)
#15 Ash[4216]
Okay, in equal numbers, the hydras would win of course. But if both players spent the same amount on troops, the marines would win. 100 minerals for 2 'rines < 75 minerals/25 gas for 1 hydra (does anyone disagree that gas is worth more than minerals?). And 2 marines whoop 1 hydra. So cost wise, the marines win. Throw in stim, and you've got yourself a massacre....
Btw, great report Fractal_Wave. Four stars and 2 thumbs up.
#16 Slicer[4231]
Actually, Shock, that depends on the upgrade...

A 0/1 marine would do 5 damage to an 0/1 hydra. (6-1)
A 0/1 Hydra would do 4.5 damage to an 0/1 marine. .5*(10-1)

Now, do the calculations for them at 0/3... things change neh? :)
#17 Templar of doom[4245]
I have them do 5 damage to each other but one thing you shlould take into account, stimm medics too but 2 stimmed rines kill 1 hydra(same cost) and have 1 damaged rine and 1 30 hp rine.
