So what do you guys think, is it more fun to read this campy, fictionalized type of report, or would you prefer I switched to actually talking about the game of WoW itself?
I think talking about the gameplay itself would be kinda boring unless I was an uber-expert on it.
The idea for me is to play a little WoW, write a report on it, but instead of sticking to exactly what happened in the game, just use what happened in the game as inspiration for the story line. |

Thanks for the 8, Dagomar, I consider that very generous for such a short report.
I wasn't prepared to create a masterpiece, so I thought I would give the new authoring tool a shot. It really did make for a "speedy" battle report.
To create the report I just took some screenshots I had taken while playing the night before, then used "The Gimp 2.0" a really nice freeware app similar to photoshop, to reduce the images and convert them to JPG. I zipped the images, and used the Report Center's new "auto zip extractor" feature. Then with the new authoring tool I created an HTML file inside the file manager. When you use the authoring tool from within the file manager the "image previewer" button works wonders. Also once you add images, you can just drag and drop them to a different place in the report.
Certainly I could use CSS, flash, and spent time on making the images "pretty". That woulda taken at least twice as long, and I'd rather write an 7 or 8 quality report once a month instead of a 9 rated report once a year.
A few pictures, some writing, that was about it, kinda like the original reports we used to do. I was pretty much just shooting for a 7 with this puppy.
Oh another handy tip with the authoring tool... If you click "create a report with this html file" link then proceed to the "preview report" page, you can open a 2nd browser, make tweaks to the html then just hit reload on the preview page. Gives you a perfect preview while you author. |

Now, I know that I'll go against most people, but I'll say that this probably should've only gotten a 7. Why? It's short. There are what, 5 pictures and 5 blurbs of text? That's not much at all. At least for an 8 level report.
Also, I'd like to say that you should talk more about the game in the first report that you make. For example, what's the different between the different characters, why you chose the characters, stuff like that. But that's just me. |

I agree with goldrush regarding the rating, a 7 would have been fine. It WAS really short, and the big pictures made it look bigger than it really was.
Again I may create a separate section for reports like this, and not give them ratings, etc... Since most of them will be pretty short. The goal is encourage people to write reports that will provide people here some entertainment.
Traditionally a battle report on a new game usually should include some type of introduction to the game. This report was more of a piece of fiction however. I didn't really talk about strategy, or the specifics of the game itself.
Now I'm not ruling out the possibility of somebody creating a WoW report that is more about the game itself, without this type of fictional writing style. The problem really with WoW reporting in general is if you write a report that was time you coulda spent PLAYING THE GAME! I fear that is how most potential WoW reporters will look at it.
The true test is if CattleBruiser reports on WoW, and how long until he does. (hint, hint)
I'd also like to see good ol Mark4 report on the game, but his reporting style is more technical in terms of talking strategy to the nth degree, so I don't see him writing one until he's a 50th level Warlock and starts over with a new char or something.
The other thing that makes WoW reporting tough is that there are no observer slots obviously! You gotta hit print screen as you play, which can be hard to remember to do. |

That was an enjoyable read, even if it was short. It's good enough that it makes such a section on the site seem promising indeed as long as there would be enough scribes erm... reporters.
This makes the game look as good as I thought it would, and now I might just have to get off my lazy ass and go out to buy it. |

| Well, it's about time Sindri learns that you can't judge people by what they think about your reports. You judge people by how well they play Starcraft, silly. :D Anyway, excellent report, Johnny. I might do one like this since more DoW reports are out of the question until I get off my lazy posterior and buy it myself. World of Warcraft is too cool to ruin with alot of stat-strat (hehe) reporting, especilly for roleplayers like me. Mark4 has probably gotten his Felsteed by now, if he was level 18 when you played the session. I'm an Orc Warlock named Fomir on the Scarlet Crusade server, if anyone played there give me a whisper in-game. |
