Hmm, it seems that the public can't view reports instantly anymore. Oh well. Zerg~Ling said he'd rate it tomorrow, so it should be accessible tomorrow at the latest . . . provided he gives it a higher rating than 1. :P
It has been a while since I've BRed, so I wanted to do something a little different. I came across an old, half-finished report of mine and fixed it up.
Thanks for reading! |

A solid report on a game that looks pretty cool. I liked the beginning leading up to the report the most. Once the action started it was a little harder to hold my interest, probably because I was so unfamiliar with the game.
Nevertheless it was very well done, looked great and the writing was excellent.

I might actually download that game and give it a try sometime. Kudos for finishing a report that has sat on your drive for a year! |

| It was good, but gunbound games go fast! And if you do four player games it gets complicated quick. But on the other hand, you explained the game well, and its so easy to get into that if people try it they'll get hooked for a month or so just like I did when it was first out. Thanks for bringing back the memories! |

Indeed. I thought about BRing a 4v4 score game, but then I'd have to explain the nuances of spawning point selection as well as having more action to report . . . which would be more confusing for those who hadn't played before. This was already getting kind of long, so I went with a 2v2.
Thanks for the comments and the rating! =) |

pretty nice article, agreed. very neat to see a play-by-play, especially since this seems to be a completely unexplored direction (at least from what i've seen of this forum. people could learn a lot from play-by-plays with pics.
anyway, two small quibbles here:
(1)
QUOTE
"Bunge - this is a corruption of the English word "Bungee""
at first glance this appears to be true, but at second glance... bungee cables really have nothing to do with GB bunge. if the word "bunge" really originated from "bungee" somehow then it would involve NOT falling to one's death since the rope would save you.
so my guess is "bunge" came from something, somewhere, but it's not as obvious as the writer thinks.
(2)
the writer's lite analysis of the bots is almost, but not quite, completely wrong by almost any standards, beginning with the first line "Category 1 - Valley girls. These are the popular bots, and generally require little to no thought to handle." used to describe nak, cake and turtle which as most of us should know, are some categorically tricky bots to handle at a high level against good competition.
still, the bot analysis is very brief and that is prolly the best thing. the overall article really is cool and enjoyable to read and the scene needs more of the same IMO. |

Chris:
Darn, I thought I had triple-checked the alt-text. Which ones are cutting off?
Regarding Pap's comments:
1) This is the commonly accepted "urban legend" style origin of the term, to the point that I have friends who pronounce it "bungee" in real life, much to my consternation. Even if it isn't factually true, it's at least something that many players seem to believe, and therefore worth including in a GB report.
As to the rationale you use in rejecting this myth, that assumes a familiarity on the behalf of Korean software programmers with the idea of bungee jumping - something I am not ready to assume. Who knows? Perhaps there was some joke going around Softnyx about bungee jumping without ropes. Perhaps the term was thought up by the same guys who translated the phrases "Your gold is getting x amount" and "If fall down on your own - suicide penalty," and they thought it evoked a long fall.
I would be interested in hearing the "true origin" you suggest. Please reply with it if you find it. |

Continued:
2) Nak requires no skill to handle if you sit right next to your opponent and tap space bar to shoot. Sure, you'll hit yourself too, but my point is that it's possible to win while doing that, and I have seen a lot of people play that way. Turtle and cake are tricky at long range or high angle - but no tricker than, say, armor. Certainly not tricker than landing all three Trico shot 2 balls in one spot, gauging the change from Ice weapon 1 to Ice weapon 2 flawlessly, or figuring out what shot to make with A.Sate through a tornado. Cake even has splash damage on shot 1, which makes it easier to hit the ground near your opponent and at least do some damage. This means nothing to a good player, but to a beginner who can't even hit most of the time, it helps. Long range, high angle shots are probably not the province of someone who has just read this report and wants to start playing.
Classically, turtle is used to Shotgun - the classic brainless attack. The Shotgun turtle all-attack build was, for many months, a staple of GB regulars. It's true that they changed the turtle attack angle since to make full power shotgunning much less successful, but that doesn't alter the fact that one can still find a lot of people who handle the turtle as though it hadn't been changed.
I therefore stand by my analysis, as it is written for the beginner and not for considerations of "a high level against good competition."
Thanks for reading. |

Turtle has been nerfed for damage. Back in November, it did 350+ damage. Now, what, 250+?
Turtle and Cake are far easier to play at long range than landing Trico 3 in 1s. 3 in 1s require much skill to hit properly.
Also, a.sate is currently overpowered. It deals huge damage at close/medium range and although it's trickier at long range, it's SS still deals humungous damage.
Still, this guide gives beginners a good idea of how to play. |

Nice beginners guide to Gunbound. I take it this game was played using the old picture capturing method? You seemed to be missing chunks of action not related to your turn.
I'll give it an 8. Better formatting, picture editing, action shots, etc would get it a higher score. Problems with picture taking I know but it is a problem. |
