Finished it. I had considered using your convos and my bet on your life as part of my alt-text, now I'm glad I didn't. I thought it would be in poor taste but now I see it would have been overexposure to mattz rays and would have lowered my score which is, of course, much more important.
To tell the truth, I did spend that weekend worrying whether you had survived, especially after I realised it was Friday the 13th...I still lost 50 bucks though :(.

Hilarious.
The writing in this was good. It was similar to the style of "The Perfect Storm" or "Into Thin Air." Probably due to the use of present tense(it seems to add to the suspense). I liked it. Although, like Ling said, a chat log would have been nice.

i live in Kingston, Jamaica.. your storm was supposed to hit us, but that dude did nothing he was supposed to... it took a small swipe at the coasts, hurt some farmers in St.Elizabeth and moved on to spwead da wub to you folks.
houses are pretty secure here, but water gets into my phone lines.. so my bnet connections are Beyond crappy!

I WAS MENTIONED...
And me logging off was my internet + power being cockslapped by Charley. I can't believe how little damage your area took..! I live in an old neighborhood with lots of big ass oaks, which I assumed to be indestructable. About one out of four of them were felled by the gargantuan storm. GG trees :(
I went out and took some video & digital photos..I didn't get the really good ones that I wanted to but I do have some pictures of downed trees. There were so many massive oaks crossing the roads of my neighborhood that you couldn't get out of our little...er, community, the day after the storm!
One last thing, I hate you! I got power back on Monday and internet back late Thursday :'(!! Though I did actually have a good time without the internet and power--couple of my friends got together and we just played cards, swam, and hung out in general. Felt like when we were little kids :)

This gives the reader a good sense of what it would be like to be in your shoes as a Cat 4 comes barrelling at you. Very original idea reporting on a natural disaster, great job! |
