Sigh, having more than one used name sucks, this is my report :)

Valk's do explosive, Muta's are small.

Try putting one Corsair versus one Muta, the Muta doesn't do all that bad=) It takes 2-3 points of damage while giving 9 (except when you get to shields, which it'll do 8)

Main problem with valk's is there lack of focus'ed fire, otherwise, they'd be just as good (if not better) than Corsairs.

(err, I was slightly ignoring rate of fire, Corsairs fire like twice as fast as a muta, but they have more hitpoints)
#4 JSH[3947]
One valk vs. one muta is pretty meaningless. The valk is designed to take down large groups of enemies. I have read about tests done where once a critical mass of valks is achieved, they start doing awesome. I believe vs. mutas it is somewhere around 8 valks. So they really don't suck.

I am told by a couple friends of mine, who played a team game as terran/zerg. Apparently they really really wanted to control the air, and the zerg made a full control group of devourers, while the terran did the same with valks. They were assaulted by 5 or 6 BCs and as the devs attacked before the valks, one volley killed all the BCs. It would seem to me that a group of even 9 devs and 12 valks could completely rule the air on an island map, and give you complete control, as most people use a doom fleet to win.

Oh, hell yes.

Let's think about what Devourers do, shall we?

They add Acid Spores to targets, and the Acid Spores add an extra point of damage per spore per hit.

Now let's think about what Valks do.

They do a little bit of damage with many missiles.

... you figure it out :)

And yes, Valks don't TOTALLY suck, but they aren't designed so much for "big" air war as for "absolutely fucking huge" air war.

Actually, the more targets they go against the less effective they'll be. They'll recieve more damage and end up doing less damage to the attack force (since their main damage will be distributed over all those possible targets). Unless the Valk's manage to win the "splash" war, that is. Not to mention, Valk's effectiveness is GREATLY reduced when 3-3 upgrades take place...

Hehe, kickass comeback victory. Thanks Slicer.
#9 Necrosausage![3981]
I thought Ill throw in a test of mine...

12 0/0 Valks vs 12 0/0/0 Scouts = 7-9 Valks
12 3/3 Valks vs 12 3/3/3 Scouts = 5-7 Scouts

splash damgage doesnt do this good in late game... :(

#10 Slicer[4014]
The "splash" war is the only way for Valks to win. This usually gets annoying when fighting against things like Mutas, or Protoss units close to a Shield Battery. Those units heal, and the point of Valk war is to attack a group and dwindle the group's HP down to nothing.

And yeah, the splash vs armor calculations really fuck up valks late..

Umm, I forgot? :)
