Now that the publicity that my report received has dies down, I'm going to have my Final Word.
On a side note, I'm awarding the Award for the Best Flame to #38, ComicGenius.
Okay, here goes. To start, I'd like to say that I got everything I wanted out of this report. I set out to prove a point, and not only did the peice survive deleting, but it also got a rating! Albeit, it was a one, but even a rating, signifying that the report is worth remaining on the site, is a triumph.
The point that I was trying to prove was that this site needs work. Alot of work. Very few saw the humuor in this report, it wasn't normal so most flamed it. The users who frequent the site are for the most part not very accepting. If they were, I think everyone would have enjoyed this alot more. |

I've suceeded in proving the point I set out to prove. This report got 60 comments, 80% of which were flames. This report was not my best work, and it really didn't deserve all that publicity. The report received all the attention because people were just itching to set their fingers on the keyboard and conjure up a flame.
To prove that most of the users on this site are insulting assholes, lets compare the comment section of my intentional peice of shit to that of Jimmy's most recent report. This report was far from my best work, and it got 60 comments. Jimmy's report was a report on starcraft, and it excelled in most areas. It was very enjoyable, however it only got 12 comments. My report got six times as much publicity. Why? Because most of my comments are flames. It turns out people would rather waste time flaming this worthless junk instead of dishing out well-deserved praise over at Jimmy's report. |

How do we set about fixing this abundancy of flamers at our site? If we are to find a solution, it's going to have to be a team effort. We need to read reports with an open mind. We need to offer constructive criticism instead of needless insults. We need to perceive all levels of humuor with a broader sense of fun. I also deeply care about the battlereports.com community, and am glad that other people still care as well. The issues that you have brought up are not a recent phenomenon, if I had to go by memory I'd say that the community became more interested in flaming reports in late 2001.
Over the years, I have become cynical toward attempts to restore this website to its former glory. The problems with the community are too deeply rooted, in my eyes. I think the only way to fix this site is to get this website more exposure, enabling worthy new battlereporters to find this site to replace the ones that leave. I do admire your spirit, though, and am looking forward to your next battlereport (The reason for the 1 was because of my hardline stance toward what should be a battlereport, I will accept it with an open mind).

First of all, you actually are a hacker. Your units/buildings keep changing colors, just like your text. With Terrans, you painted your purple Barrack in orange. With Zergs, your units went from yellow to orange and then to red !!! No wonder your opponents had hard times killing you !

About the community and the downfall of the site :
I don't think you should post your 'BR' in the forum. Most people don't go to this forum and I personnaly think it's one of the worst forums I know of.
I post on Blizzforums and Battleforums. I can try to grab people from there and bring them back to BR.com. I could try to find someone there who could help me write my own battlereport, too. (I know that I have a debt towards this site and I want to pay it back. Since I've close to no time when I'm home (I'm posting from work right now), I can't BR but I try to post as accurate criticism as I can) |

Most of the veterans went away, no surprise this site is going down. But you still have the Reports' database which is awesome and some new writers are good and improving their skills.
Please don't create another site, it's pretty useless. BR.com is one of the very last sites where you can find new SC reports once in a while. If you create a new site, you'll only bring the WC3 community, which is not exactly the identity of BR.com. WC3 reports are welcome but they can be found pretty much everywhere.
Banning people is stupid. Who are you going to ban ? The flamers or the flamers' flamers ? |
