Warcraft III is fun, but the lag really kills the game :P That, and it just feels .. so much different.
In Warcraft, the game is so...
well, I spend so much time working around lag, and scouting for creeps and everything that it's very hard for me to come up with strategies.
That, and the game seems to be mass-mass-mass and attack-through-the-front-door. Transports are very hard to come by in comparison.
And since technology comes so fast, then it's not really quite worth it tech-rushing because your opponent won't be far behind, even if they aren't going for tech.
Uh.. since this post has no direction, I'll just say that Starcraft seems a lot more strategy-oriented than WC3. And like SiG said, Heroes are very strong.. especially the spellcasters.
Those others who've played it may comment, but don't flame me, 'cause I'm weak and fragile.

I absolutely loved this. To me, this is the best WC3 report yet. I mean, wow.
Obviously the lack of good screenshots decreases the rating, tho WC3 is so amazing graphically that it makes up for that to some degree. Your writing is great . . . ya I guess estrogen does make the game less exciting, lol. I'm going to slap this a 9, which is a little generous but . . . this is one of the only BRs where I was actually sad and surprised that it was over already, when I reached the end. Awesome. |

Nice screenie report. War3 is very good-looking (despite #18) but I worry (not having the beta) that it will end up like a real-time HoMM (Heroes of Might and Magic) instead of being a strategic game like Starcraft. I suppose that would be fine except that isn't the type of game I enjoy. O well, worst case scenario is that more players are disenchanted with War3 and play SS instead. :)

I agree totally with Serious. Sc > Wc3 when it comes to strategy.
I personally like the way the fights start at about 3 mins and continue thoughout the game. But in wc3, one can't even scout (not at daytime). Annoying your opponent with a worker is the best thing since offensive cannoning.
The creeps make you focus more on levelling/building up then on battles. And building up is for Westwood games.
Also, i find the 3d units much harder to control then 2d ones. I dunno if i'm the only one having this, but the battles seem a lot messier and uncontrollable.

I'll play the beta a bit, but stick with starcraft.
The problem will be 95% of sc players switching, so there won't be any sc games out there.
To be honest, i don't see wc3 become such a hit over in korea, as it's not focused on strategy enough.
I bet wc3 will sell extremely well in europe and america, since it does appeal to gerenal public, who just want to play now and again, and have a bit of fun.
I think Blizzard didn't make this game for hardcore gamers only, more for sales...but i hope it'll work against them if they continue this way.

this is a fairly old game, mixing units while properly macroing tends to be more effective, but massing ranged units is more effective than it should be still... only thing that rapes mass rifleman is spells/defend, and blizzard is a good spell :o Lately I've been going footmen w/defend/knight or tank/rifleman/mortar, or defendfootmen/gryphon (sometimes with knights later) and I mix and match heros for fun. In 2v2s the paladin or even mountain king is prolly better in case of double.
Anyway I really like WC3, I think they've done an excellant job, but the retail will be much less buggy and should work fine on your comp Serious :) It still eats away at the resources even on mine :/ But its really laggy now and I don't blame you for prefering SC there, and battles are confusing, specially since I only know orc/human units :o I'll play SC tonight if you want :) |

And one more thing: On Undead/Night Elves
While the graphics are really pretty in the case of the Night Elves, and fairl good in the case of the Undead I think they screwed this two races up. The sound and gameplay is inferior; Night Elves seem limited to range and imbalanced, making their gameplay boring; while undead have really bad sound choices and graphic choices... Neither race seems original, or something; they don't feel right. I don't play them at all anymore :( Humans and orcs on the other hand feel /really/ well done, the sounds are perfect and the gameplay is great, but at the same time very different from each other... I dunno, I played WC2 less in total then I've played the beta so far, but still maybe I'm biased :/ |

I must say that this was a great BR.
I was really enthralled by WC3 the first night I had it, and continued to play the hell out of it the next day. Now, however, I find I'm a little disenchanted with it. I think it has to do with how easy it is to win/lose. If I win a game, I was dominating from the very start and, if I lose, my opponent came close to annihilating me very early. I'll probably still get it when it comes out, but until then I'll be giving it a little break.
UpWords Battle is a shit load more fun and requires a lot more skill... Anyone wanna' play? |

no game can live up to the massive amount of hype surrounding WC3, so I think it's normal that some of you are disenchanted with it ;).
Also, you probably shouldnt expect the beta to be perfect, it's very likely they'll tweak and change alot still . . . look at the SC Beta, and the way IT looked. |

| I don't have the Beta, so this is just a guess coming from someone who hasn't seen anything more of the game than what I did in this report, but I have something to say about the comments some have made regarding SC being better strategically. Do you think maybe that might just be because War3 is still so new that War3 strategy is still in its infancy? I know Starcraft strategy has continually evolved over the years I've been playing, and gotten more complex along the way as people have discovered new ways to use old things. |

When you type 'sendmewar3' it'll automatically start the download. mIRC might prompt you to see if you really want to d/l it, but otherwise it should be automatic.
And.. that is the beta. This is also the only way I know how to get it, too. |

to get the beta, first of all, go to chan, type:
!list
choose 1 of the servers that has the beta, under Trigger just type whatever it says dere. It will say connecting to host or somethin like this. once it is all connected, type:
dir
find warcraft iii beta.iso type:
get [filename] (probably warcraft_iii_beta.iso)
you will either be told ur in a queue line, or there are to many sends. You must go into Options -> DCC and turn OFF "Ignore Files". You will be prompted when it is time for your d/l to begin. |

You're going to need a fast CPU to run War3 well. I've got a Voodoo5 (I can run anywhere from 640x480 to 1200x900 with no video slowdown) with 384mb RAM. Lots of RAM is also a must since there's a lot of swapping going on. I've got a 600MHz Duron and that's what's keeping me from enjoying the game. If I had a faster CPU with more L2 cache it would run a lot smoother. As it stands, in 3v3s and 4v4s or even large 2v2 battles I have to say "tmu" to my ally (take my units).

| I've seen several of you complain about how you think Starcraft is more Strategy oriented than war3, and I'd like you all to look at it as compared to the starcraft beta. In the starcraft beta you could build one carrier and win the game. In the starcraft beta you lost if you teched past lings and your opponent was a decent pumper. In the starcraft beta you could do anything you wanted, and with little skill you could beat just about anyone. You can't compare the options in war3 to the ones in starcraft, cause SC has had 5 years (and an expo) to mature as a game. millions of hours have been spent picking apart sc, developing strategies and counters. Since we can't say the same for war3 yet, I think many of you are just being quick to judge. |
