My lifetime rating is under 4, so I'm not a good example, but the people who get lots of praise spend weeks or longer.
Your report got your story across, and if thats all you were shooting for then you did good. But if you expect a good rating, you have to spend more time, and do useless things like make perty html, and screen shots (hit print screen button while in game, then look in the starcraft directory for the *.PCX files) and other stuff.... Try going to the main page (battlereports.com) and look at the list on the top right of the last 10 gold reports. Gold reports _SHOULD_ be good examples of what is expected.

Hehe, The comment section is where you can learn that, yes, you did a good job at what you were shooting for. The rating is for giving the other readers a way of comparing your report to other peoples reports...
It's an overall score of how entertaining the judges thought your report was... So if you just want to tell your story, then good, post a report that tells the story, and ignore the rating.

Advice: View one of the gold reports, and see what kind of stuff is expected...
1)A good, exciting game.
2)Interesting pictures (optional)
3)Good formatting(html tables n stuff)
4)Good flow of text (is it easy to read? do you have to stop anywhere, or can you read it all straight through without having to question what the author was saying?)
5)Something Origional, if you can think of it.
6)Pretend someone else wrote it, and give it to someone you know... If they say it was fun and exciting, without you hinting that you want them to say that, then it should be ok... Otherwise ask for advice on how to make it better.
7)Spelling and Grammer are more important (to some people) than you might think, and how much time does it really take to run your work through a spell checker? |

if you spend "weeks or more" on a battlereport you probably have some really powerful graphical programs and do flash or 3d modeling, unlike most of us...
