To be honest, I'm pretty new to this site so I haven't seen any fan fiction yet, and I probably would have written the same comment to them. Even so, fan fiction at least is about games that people come on here to read, so they might be somewhat interested in it.
Even if you had shown a preview of something similar to the games BRed on here, that would have made a little sense, but an "adventure" game on a washed up system? I mean these are all RTS games, not super mario clones on systems that haven't been produced in months. |

"Washed up system?" Sega still have over 100 games planned for Dreamcast release. I doubt that you have even played on a Dreamcast properly then, ScoSmokes! If you had, you'd relaise that there are loads of excellent and original games on it. PS2 has MG4 and... nothing else.
"Mario-clone?" Then, if you want to look at it like that, Mario is a clone of Miner Willy on the Commodore 64! Stop talking nonsense- that's a hollow argument, and you know it very well.
"Not been produced in months?" Sega officially stopped poroduction of Dreamcasts five DAYS ago, and they still have plenty of stock to distribute. Get your facts straight! |

Sega announced way back in Jan that it was going to stop producing systems. I will be honest that I'm not sure when the last Dreamcast was physically made. What matters is the effect it has on the market.
Yes, I do own a dreamcast with several games, and they are decent games, but not great games. I also have a PSX2, and while the game selection is limited, everyone in the gaming market "knows" that companies want to produce games for the Sony juggernaut as their market share is incredible (look at how well Saturn did against PSX).
I'll admit the Super Mario clone was a little out of line, but that's more my distaste for the genre than anything (Rayman 2, Super Mario, Crash Bandicoot, etc.) You are right about one thing--I didn't go back far enough in the adventure game genre. There were loads of games like that loaded from tape drives back in the C-64 and earlier time frames.
The reason there are still 100 games (I'm taking your word for it) coming out for the dreamcast is two fold: 1) So people who bought a Dreamcast don't start detesting Sega 2) Because the games have already had so much investment of development resources that it would be economic suicide for these companies to simply stop development.
Let's face it, Sony has had complete control of the console market since about '96. Genesis did dethrone Nintendo, but that's gone man. I'd venture to say that Sony has averaged a 50% market share over the last 6 years (with Sega/Nintendo getting about 20% a pop). No, I don't work for Sony. |

1) Diversity is sitting down and playing a couple of games of Starcraft when I get home from work in 10 minutes, going out to dinner, and then going out to hang out with my friends, coming home to my g/f, waking up tomorrow, reading some more of Dante's Paradiso, etc., etc. Diversity is NOT playing a video game on a PC, getting up, and playing an adventure game on a console.
2) If everyone put whatever information in the wrong locations on the web, NO ONE would be able to find anything. Maybe I should add a battle report about epistemology and why Bonjourian coherentism or Cartesian foundationalism makes more sense than skepticism. That'll make everyone on this site really happy because that's exactly what they set out to find when they typed, "battle reports" in the google search engine.
3) I don't see how pirating video screenshots from gamespot and writing about the game qualifies a "lot of time and effort."
4) You don't need to get so defensive. We understand you're excited about the game and like it a lot. We've probably been a little on the abrasive side, but you've been very inconsiderate by placing this in the battle reports to begin with. I'm sure you can find a site somewhere where other people would like to talk about Sonic 2.
5) If Starcraft people want to be completely one dimensional and play nothing but Starcraft, let them be. No one's trying to "widen your horizons" so why trying to widen ours. Become a Libertarian, relax, live your life and keep out of other people's. If your neighbor next door wants to wake up every morning, come out on his front lawn, douse his hand in gasoline, light in on fire, put it out and go the emergency room, let him. |

I put more effort into it than you think, Smoke. First I had to write the report, scan pics from a magazine, and then the gamespot pictures had to be saved, re-sized (they were enormous- far too large) and then re-uploaded (which takes long on a poor modem). I had to post this report FOUR TIMES to get all the backgrounds and picture alignments right (coupled with extensive previewing which actually didn't reveal some of the once-posted problems).
I'm just tired of this incessant flame-war now. Either way, it's up to the raters to decide whether this report lives or dies.
But, reports aside, I still think that Sega make by far the best games. If you want to own a PS2, or a PC, X-box, N64, be my guest, I'm not going to leap down you throat in a mad New Labour-esque frenzy as a couple of people did (*ahem-HEMTommy* *ahem-HEMDagomar*). I think Starcraft is an excellent A-class game as well, you know!
I stand by my report all the same. I put effort into nicely presenting it, giving some information, and putting jokes in it- it's simple entertainment! I'm not trying to force you all to buy Dreamcasts! |

It always amazes me how brave people can be hiding behind a computer or in their car. If you're walking a store and someone knocks into you, they don't unleash a wave of insults because the person they're insulting could (and should) decide to hold them accountable for their words. As soon as that same person gets behind the wheel of a car and is cut off, their middle finger shoots up, they tailgate, etc. Or when that person gets home at night they get on their computer and decide to take out whatever aggression they have behind the warm cozy anonymity of their computer (just like the person driving) knowing that they won't have to suffer any reprocussions.

Actually, I reread some of the stuff I wrote and it sounded more abrasive than I had intended, so I'm sorry about that.

| well, raters usually rate the famous reporter's reports first, then the unkown and least known ones. (ie, fls's report was rated within 5 hours of it's release, mine came out about 6 hours before his, and it was rated about 1 1/2 days later) It's something one must accept. Also, raters avoid "nothing" br's, fan fics, reports that are horrible, reports that have no useful content, br's that are downright not true to the genre of "br's" things like that. |
