In the little social circle that I am in (me and my friends (both of them)), we have come up with a new statement. A statement to define jokes that have good intentions, but intentionally fall flat on their large, unfunny ass. Maybe it's a bad pop reference, maybe it's the wrong adjective at the wrong time, maybe it's just good old fashioned bad timing, nobody knows.
That hasn't stopped us from naming it, however. These kinds of jokes fall into the "Joe joke" category. This is where the not pitiful, but just simply bad jokes reside. Gems like:
"Why does a woman wear white to her wedding?"
"Because all kitchen appliances come in white."

The report: It owned hardcore, picture quality made me cringe a bit though, but the game looked fairly fun, was easy to keep up with and u reported it well, good writing style..... Well, I'm back from my little "vacation" into the world of school. Final year sucks hardcore. In one day I managed to piss off a teacher to the point of getting a detention, failed a practice exam for Italian and screwed up in my Maths test. How was your day? Hehe. Ok, first off - Lesbians do own. That title pic isn't porn (or pron) because it's just a picture of two people kissing. And trust me - I'm a 17 year old male - I know what porn is and isn't. Aside from this, only 2 people have answered either of my questions imbedded in the BR, both with differing opinions, so I won't tell who the real comp was just yet. Also, as a side note, in all of my previous reports people have put comments in the comments section (duh) telling me to include alt text. This time I did, but nobody has said "wow alt text owns" so, what is the point really? If people go out of their way to tell me to include alt text, wouldn't it then receive a comment saying that I DID include alt text? Oh well, that's just me. A whining little baby.

Oh yeah, Mattkid : You get 2 guys with exactly the same name by not playing on B.net. I didn't know if it'd work myself, but it does. If you have 2 computers linked up or even just a modem game, try it and you'll see that it works. Cos in multiplayer games, you don't need to register under a name - you just play. Strange, but true.

Actually, the challenge of guessing who the comp was kept me reading. I'm guessing there won't be many BRs with computer players as they're pretty predictable and boring. I'm also guessing that's why you used cannons as part of your defense early on.
Anyway, if I had to guess, I'd say both 'toss and Terran were comps. If it's REALLY only one, then it has to be 'toss--only because terran never went to the air eventually and the computer always ends up there. |

Oh my god, I just got my first win on BW B.net style! (I played vanilla all the time up until recently.) But it wasn't just any win, it was a BR-worthy win, except I didn't think it would be so I didn't take any SS. Basically, it was a 3 FFA on Hunters (yeah I know, but nobody was in NH so at least it wasn't BGH! No selection in pubbie games) Ok, I went random (as always) and got zerg. My opponents got terran and protoss. The protoss guy cannoned me in right from the start, which pissed me off, cos I'd need either Dark Swarm or crabs to effectively take it out (didn't notice until like 10 cannons were already warped in). Both players seemed reasonably good (ie no turtling and no carriers/BCs to be seen) and when I started taking out the cannons, that guy dropped from the game. It was pretty late in the game and I was bored/given-up at this point so I went absolutely psycho on lings. I think my lings took out about 3 marines at a time, but the tanks behind the M&M&F killed a lot of their own kind. So, I figure that this isn't working and decide to drop 24 hydras onto his base. Well, I lost 3 lords on the way there (damn valkyries) but when I dropped them I knew I was gonna lose. Marines and tanks and stuff own hydras (generally) when I'm outnumbered. But, here's the real kicker, after not expanding all game and pretty much being a zerg turtle (except no defense) I powered him! He only had a few guys sitting in his base at the time, and the rest were nowhere near! He couldn't hold up to the <i>brutal</i> attacks of 12 weakened, unupgraded hydras vs M&M&F and tanks! Well, it might not sound like much, but I pretty much assumed I was dead right from the start and this really shocked me, getting this win. Oh well, this post is waaaaay too long, so seeya!

Not the best players ever, tho I guess that the point was for them to play like a comp would so you can't blame them.. except for you.. no it wasn't mass cannon, but cannon expand is like 1 or 2 cannons not 6.
Anyways my guess is the purple toss because as Scosmokes said, brown never made any wraiths or bcs or valks so he can't be a comp.
The br wasn't bad at all, I'd say 8 was a good mark for it. |

| I DLed 1.08 at www.creepcolony.com. The replay thing is really excellant for BRing it looks like. To play with a comp on your side you have to play game type "Top vs Bottom", and it has to be in multiplayer somewhere. So to play 2v2 me and a comp vs 2 comps i had to pretend i was playing a modem game. Yes it was sad |

If you play vs Terran comp on Lost Temple then they do sometimes drop two bunkers at the top of their ramp. (In 1.07 at least) They are also known for teching to nukes and using them repeatedly, but often not very effectively. Mass lockdown also suggests that the terran was a computer player. Also the complete absence of things like turbo-newbie attacks suggests either a weak human or a comp.
It seems as though we can rule out the Zerg - not only did he quit, but his base defense was very non-computerish.
The protoss guy might have been a comp, it's hard to tell. I don't think so though. I don't think that the computer does three zealot rushes followed by twelve zealot rushes. We're given little info on the Protoss guy's base or unit mixes are so it's difficult to surmise much more. It'd be wierd having a comp go carriers and arbiters early in a land map, but it's just as wierd having a human go significant scouts + carriers + arbiter + early stasis + not attacking the NW island when you guys apparently had no real air...

On the report itself:
It was almost a really, really great report. It had great elements - a long game, good minimap updates, lots of pictures and descriptive text. So that's all good. :)
I do have some quibbles, though. I'd like to preface my comments by saying that I'm trying to be constructive and not to diss the considerable amount of work that you've clearly put into the report. I apologise if my comments are offensive, I really do hope that you'll write more battle reports in the future.
Firstly, I think that it really helps if you break up the text into paragraphs with some space between them. There are places where it seems like I'm trying to wade through a screenfull or two of text with no places to rest my eyes. Wrapping text around pictures is nice, but it's not quite the same thing. This can easily knock you down a point, imho.
I thought that some of the text descriptions could have used a bit more detail. For example when your Protoss enemy broke out with arbiter backed carriers this seemed like a potentially game ending attack. You did talk about lockdown and your ally killing them with ghosts, goliaths and wraiths, but you never really gave any indication of how many carriers there were, or really if their attack was cost effective at all.
Similarly when you moved out a dozen dragoons to assist your terran partner's attack and his attack was destroyed just before you got there we have no idea of if it was a major attack that severely weakened the enemy before it fell... I realize that it was a long game, and thus you need to abbreviate what happens, but I frequently felt like I had no feeling for the relative strengths of the players. Does this make sense?
Some of the pictures were a little bit confusing. Sometimes you did things like number the scenes so the reader could tell which were supposed to follow which (yay :), in others it just seemed like a random melange of images that didn't convey a coherent plot. I don't want to dwell overly on this because you obviously put a lot of work into the images. I think you could have gotten away with fewer images that were linked more closely to important conflicts and had a clearer report with less work for you.
The Ending. OMG. I was so much looking forwards to finding out how one team scraped together the resources to grind down the other. Actually it would have been great if it had been a BW game and you actually resorting to Dark Archons to mind control/feedback the scattered enemy resistance. That would have been so sweet. Instead we get "One of the rl players quit because he was bored" (this is ok, the Zerg had been apparently dead for a while, game can go on) then you two both quit with the game unresolved! Arrrgh! That's just mean! This pretty much guarantees you losing a point.
The T_Mac jokes were pretty funny. I actually saw an SUV with vanity plates that read T MAC a couple of days ago. If it had been Barney Purple then I would have known for sure, but as it was I was left wondering if this was the real T Macmobile or just a cheap knockoff...
I hate to say it, but the skill level of the players seemed to leave a little to be desired. From the scores I've seen handed out, it seems to be really tough to write a 10 report on a game that doesn't feature good players performing sweet moves - unless it's pillorying BGH newbies with 200 drone drops :)

Hey Strom, I nearly typed your name as storm - well, actually I did, this is the last part of the comment that I'm typing. Well, your criticism was well justified, but I thought that I did mention that the sieges and wraiths took out all but 1 sunken... oh well I can't be bothered checking now. The pics with no apparent pattern were taken from a variety of small skirmishes - I forgot to add that =( but they were all in the same section of ground in a pretty much continuous battle with no actual outcome. Not expanding upon the protoss enemy's build order or anything came about because I like to write from a first-person point of view, giving insight into my thoughts as they occurred. Sorry, that's just how I write, maybe I'll do a god-view report someday, but not just yet. There was a valid reason for both players left leaving without accomplishing anything more, and I'll tell you why in my next post. Don't worry, your thought's weren't "offensive" as you feared. After all, I'm a pioneer at my school for freedom of speach rights (damn uppity teachers) so i doesn't bother me one bit what you write because it's your choice. Answer coming soon - who will it be?

Pretty even huh? Well I'm here to announce to you all that - it was <font color="purple">ProtossEnemy<font color="white">. That is why we left after <font color="yellow">Troy<font color="white"> quit, because the 2 remaining humans were on the same team. It also explains why <font color="yellow">Troy<font color="white"> got quite a bit defense, because he expected he'd need it against 2 humans ganging up on him (he doesn't have the internet remember? He has little idea how most human's play). He'd be better off with spell casters but, well, I guess he sucks ass. And we all went random so he decided to play it safe. See? It all makes sense now!
