I am taking a break from writing for awhile until this hatred for fic runs its course. I leave this last fic as my own statement on the pure rage against fic. I don't understand it and I probably won't. For those who flame then be my guest, I hope it somehow will accomplish something.

Decent story. People hate the fan fic for a few reasons:
1)it seems like every semi literate moron wwith a keyboard has written one lately.
2)the overall quality of them is pretty damn low.
3)not many battle reports released recently
So people see the new fanfic style and despise it. Take Shock's fanfic for instance. Very well recieved.
The SC fanfic thing has been done to death lately. This one on the other hand has a fresh feeling to it, and actually has a point. That's what the vast number of fanfics lack, a point. No character to identify with, no coherent plot.
This is good because
1)a fresh idea
2)characters who seem real and you dont despise on first sight of the words describing them
3)a directed plot
So think about that when you do decide to write again and figure out why this one had those traits that so many stories, including some of your work, has lacked. |

MP, this was a good story. I liked it. It reminded me of the whole Tibet vs China thing, except the soldiers were nicer. It deserved the 8 it got. With that said....
What the hell are you trying to prove by being a big Captain America for fanfic? The thing is, people hate stuff that sucks. And on average, fan fic blows an absolutely giant amount of ass. I just added up the ratings of fanfics for the last 2 pages (including this, fractal's, slings, and one other short storyish thing that wasn't a br), and I came up with the number 4.44 as an average. I dont know about you guys, but when it sucks, I'm not going to read it. And when the average of the last two pages for'regular br's' is 6.14, well, the numbers dont lie. People don't like to read shit. I'm sorry, that's the way it is. And when fanfics are produced at about a 1:1 ratio to real br's and have an average rating of about 1.75 marks lower, that means that on average, they suck a lot more, and are shittier. And as I stated before, people don't like to read shit.
So don't take it as a great big personal vendetta because people hate fanfic. You're one of the better writers. If you want to write good stuff with original ideas and writing that doesn't blow, then go for it. I'll read it and probably enjoy it. But people don't like to read shit. If it's shit, they won't read it. People don't read shitty br's, and people don't read shitty fan fic. It just so happens that there's been a lot more shitty fanfic than br's lately, so that's why things are the way they are.

okay, you very very very crudely made your point in that story. But though I haven't posted criticism of "fics" really, I suppose I am one of those fic-haters. I don't dislike the fanfic, just crappy ones. This one fits snugly into that category.

| Great story. Ditto on Comment #11, I felt a definite reminisce with Ray Bradbury's Farenheit 451, but it was a refreshing look at it. The 8's well-deserved. |

Nice work Monty, very good story!
Try to correct small grammar mistakes before you submit. It doesn't affect the quality much but it gives a better impression to the reader. (For example, you write "there" instead of "their" which looks bad.)
BTW, I only read it because it got an 8, fan fics really need to be rated so you know what to read. I agree with CynicalMagician's post. |
