b/c ln(x) is only defined on the real plane for values > 0. When analyzing this, the ln cancels the e and all you are left with is the 1+ln(-1). To represent values not on the real plane you must use imaginary numbers, hence i*pi. So the solution is 1+i*pi. If you are using a TI-92 or 89, STOP. It impedes learning the fundementals. I learned the hard way.

To Deurges: Explanation of why Ln(-e) = (1, pi)
You will need to know some polar coordinate math to understand this... I'll try to summarize but it's much more easily explained in real life. What you need to know is that any complex number with polar coordinates (r, @) (that is, the point found by making a line of length r from the origin, on the x axis, rotating that line by @ radians, then taking the endpoint of the line)
is equal to
(Equation 1) r*e^(i*@)
where i is the root of minus 1 (personally I hate using complex notation. I prefer to think of it as the field R[i], where R is the real number field and i is an indeterminate with i^2 = -1, but that's more than you need to know :-) Note Equation 1 uses angle measurements of Radians, NOT degrees. 180 degrees is pi radians.
When you are asking for Ln (-e), you are asking what value X will give
(Equation 2) e^X = -e
But on the complex plane, in polar coordinates, -e = (e, pi) (in otherwords, draw a line of length 1 and rotate it 180 degrees). Using Equation 1 we get
(Equation 3) e*e^(i*pi) = -1
We can combine the factors to get e^(1 , i*pi) = -1
That exponent, (1, i*pi), is precisely Ln (-e).
In summary, you get pi because pi radians is 180 degrees. A good calculus book should have an explanation of polar coordinates, and a good complex analysis book should have polar coordinates AND e^(i*@) , with a better explanation than I can give in text format :-)

| I noticed one little typo... In a starting paragraph, you said that: 1vs1_msg_me warped in a black Nexus. Unless there's something that I missed, it should've been: 1vs1_msg_me spawned a black hatchery. I found some other instances where the races were mixed up. |
