As for Blackadder, I do not doubt my skill level. I had played just about any good players in SC including few of the top players in the world, as you can name them. In NH/NWTR, I was considered among the level of yav/mark/ahs/HC/Whoop/... oh you name them. I don't like backstabbing by myself, but it is a lot of fun if you do it with your friends. Also, I AM indeed getting bored of starcraft.

The brutal way that you backstabbed was what got to me. The guy was trying to help you out of the kindness of his heart because he thought you were being backstabbed. Then after he helped you destroy your former ally, you backstabbed him. I mean, this is the worst backstab I have ever seen on this site. You don't often see kindness on B.Net, but this guy was kind and did a good deed for you, and you turned around, stabbed a knife in his back, then twisted it. That <i>really</i> took away my enjoyment in reading this report. I'm serious when I say that it seemed very cruel and heartless to me, even if it was just a game.
I don't care who you are, if you were YRM or JV I'd say the same thing. Personally, the fact that you're linking this every where is kind of annoying because I think its not the kind of report I'd like to see representing this site to other people on the Internet. But that's just personal preference.

Hmm, actually I found this to be a pretty damn good report and I liked the way he colour coded all the units, instead of just names. Some of the dialogue was hilarious.
On the other hand, I whole-heartedly agree with Dref. Those actions are deplorable. Backstabbing, even "bgh newbies" is a sadistic and counter-productive practice. The thing is, most "bgh newbies" are just casual gamers trying to get something out of sc. They don't post at br.com, they aren't involved in the community, their just regular people having a good time. Sure we get bitter about it, but you can't really complain.
Furthermore, "bgh newbies" will never become anything more or better to us when they get backstabbed like that. Sure it's just a game, but going down like that can ruin your whole day.
Consider my own case. I was unable to get on the internet for 2 months, so when I finally got back I was frothing at the mouth to play sc. When I got onto bnet there was just the usual bgh fare but I was able to join a 2v2 hunters. Well noone else joined so the two people there just put on some comps and started, and I was too impatient to start playing sc again to leave. What do you know, I get backstabbed. The sad thing is, the enemy zerg 8 ling rushed me after he already killed the comp. I off-bunkered him and was about to kill him when I was backstabbed again by a toss with dts. I held them both off for a while but finally the toss brought in reavs and all I had was infantry so I was killed.
I'll tell ya, that's not a nice way to come back, and I'm not a bgh newbie.
A_Backstabber, I think that if the only enjoyment you get out of the game is taking away the fun from other people than you really should quit playing, at least for a while anyways. |

Note that I never argue with the rating. I argue with the reasons why this report was considered sucked. So far I had only received Dref's answer.
As I mentioned before, I agree with Dref that this report depicted the cruelty and inhumane-ness of me and my roommate backstabbing our partners. I hope it is clear that this report did not attempt to depict real strategies or to show how great my backstabbing "skills" are. Playing on BGH while backstabbing them is for the fun factor of myself. It is true that I did not consider the feeling of the ones being backstabbed, and by no means I'm trying to justify that. However, I personally believe that in this report we had brought the idea of backstabbing into a higher level: backstabbing the backstabber.
Of course this was not shown as a nice doing, nor did I intended to depict. I intended to invoke enjoyment not from the players, or the gameplay, but from the situation arised with all the backstabbings. As Dref said, this is the worst backstab ever seen on this site. There are some people who did not find it funny, and there are some who did.
And also, I did not link this report "everywhere." I merely posted it in this forum and at shock's, which are the places where most BR.com visitors view. I strongly believe that most people in both places know enough about BR.com to see that this report is NOT a representative one for BR.com.
I would not, under any circumstances, do anything bad to this site. I did not want to reveal my true identity because I want to see what I would get if I haven't used my name. Now I do not want to reveal it too, since this would ruin this intention. If you manage to figure out who I am, keep it to yourself. If you didn't, you'll know soon, after I've received enough kind and real comments (truthfully) about the report.

I watched the Middle East nearly go up in flames a few days ago. My Israelie friend in his 2nd year of college is leaving in the middle of the semester to go strengthen their army.

I also remember quite vividly the report Dref did entitled "More Clan Fun" Where it depicted him playing a 2v2 on dire with a person from the MoH clan and then he backstabbed him in the end. Given, he was a maphacker and distributed them among others, but is it really any different? Live a little people, nh is turning into a clan like place where people will start talking about the 'dishonor of backstabbing'. Jeez, gimme a break. It's funny. I usually try not to get negative towards people, and I play Starcraft much more than I should - usually BGH just for the hell of it cause I want relaxing games where I don't have to be the best of the best to win.
Most people, especially BGH players, just play SC to have a good time competing. Backstabing is a repulsive act that can ruin the evening of those who are backstabbed. I'm not judging your BR, I've seen much better, I've seen much worse. What I am judging is your actions. You deliberately took the fun out of several people's playing of starcraft just cause you're bored. Get a life and find a new game or go do something. you have no right to play a game you're tired of just to make other people enjoy it less as well.

I believe that every action we do reflect on our personlity, which in return, determines the type of person we are. Many people say, "It's just a game," but is it really?
Yes, SC & many other games (Half-Life, Quakee etc) are far from unviolent. Human nature is violent by nature; civilization is what has refined us, somewhat.
Isn't it good that we have the opportunity to release our violent tendancies in a way that doesn't cause harm? Almost all the games I play, I do becuase I have fun playing & sometimes, i.e. playing Half-Life, when I'm pissed at life in general & just want to go: heat-grenade, flash-grenade, & r*p* with my commander weapon, MP5.
I hold a very lenient view of of swear words. My friends & I make liberal use of them. I use them as a means of "beautifying" my spoken speach (sometimes, written too). I try hard to refrain from using swear words for the purposes of harm, hurt or other things, negative in nature. You will be hard pressed to find some who finds that I have used swear words for the purposes of insulting.
SC/BW, Half-Life may "just be games," but they can serve to reveal human nature. The same human nature tearing up our world. In my mind, no matter what is said, backstabbing & A_BackStabber is/are unforgiveable.
EVIL Seiruu, look at your name--are you evil? And in your gaming experience, haven't you come across something that spoiled you day. I have been playing for years and have had many a day spoilt by a "bad" day gaming.

Interesting report, A_BS. Well written and stuff, even though backstabbing is a crappy way to play, except on really BGH newbs who don't know how to expand and stuff in case such a thing happens. Backstabbing in a game such as Starcraft may be mean and cruel and all, but it does help relieve a lot of stress. Me, I'm 16, live at home, no car, no life, and a crappy job. To keep myself sane, I listen to violent music and play Starcraft whenever I can. Whey you look at your argument you seem to be saying this:
what A_Backstabber did was mildy bad
Other people do much worse things all the time
Therefore we shouldn't think that what A_Backstabber did was bad at all.
Let's all think about the implications of that argument. Anything is ok so long as there is something worse that could be done. That is clearly wrong.
Furthermore you seem to be saying that we should instead comment about swearing and/or racism. However, most people aren't bothered by swearing, and racism doesn't seem to be too rampant (except for maybe against koreans). I do agree with you that we should condemn racists, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't condemn backstabbers. And besides, the last time someone did get to be quite abusive, nohunters united in their disaproval of him ( :+:Goldfinger:+: )
I think that it's important that people know that Backstabbing is not looked kindly upon by the majority of the community.

WTF are you talking about? Swearing is not worse than backstabbing. Swearing is a form of communication that may be insulting to some people, but is common practice by most. Racism is revolting to me but I was judging A_BS on his actions, not his views. I have my own opinions, and I should thus respect others opinions, as long as they don't infringe on people themselves. Backstabbing does just that. It is a pointless act of cruelty to other humans.
Sure StarCraft is a violent game. OH MY GOD!!! This does not stop the fact that most people simply play it for the competition of a fair fight rather than to get back at the world for all their problems. Backstabbing robs them of that. The practice is pathetic.

Also, I believe that backstabbing is worse than making racist comments. While I dislike racism, comments can be shrugged off as they are usually found in the uneducated or socially frustrated population. When you backstab someone, you are robbing them of something they had invested time and energy into - a good and challenging game. You are wasting their time.

One more thing, people seem to think that its ok to backstab BGH newbies because they're, well, newbies. This is complete BS as newbies are even less able to defend themselves against such dishonest actions. You are betraying them not only when you join or create a game for newbies, but again when you backstab them, as if you couldn't beat them fairly. The practice is that of the playground bully.

I don't see why there is a controversy here. I think what EVIL Seiruu saying was that backstabbing was bad, but there are bad things too, while most other (note I said most but not all) said backstabbing is bad/imhumune/doom to the end of world. I mean, not SHITNUTZ backstabbing is bad. I don't see why you guys are arguing about the same thing. I also don't see why some of you really care so much about I backstab BGH newbies. Please tell me you are really disgusted so badly by backstabbing, compared to Iran bombing embassy, Nazi burning Jews, Japanese experimenting their biological weapon on Chinese civilians, or the KKK killing black people. I just found this very amasing.
Of course backstabbing an online friend is a very mean thing to do, possibly you would lose your friend; but backstabbing someone you don't really know except that they are easy to make fun of, and did act like the majority of the BGH people (eg. 2+6=6 ~Spine quoting BGH newbies) --- a complete idiot. --Sir Evil, when I play games, I am very well aware that I am playing "A GAME." Yes, many times, the realities of world are reflected in games, so? And, I have to say that your "killing females" comment sounds completely out of place. Who plays SC with the mind of killing "females," god!
To recap, an "evil" is an "evil," be it "small" or "big," "lasting" or "momentary." Evil is all its forms should be dealt with, so that future generations might live a better life.
Insults & swearing are different uses of a genre of words. I swear, but I don't make use of insults. I choose to be against insults, but swearing has become a part of my language, with my peers only, of course.

It seems that backstabbing is being justified in several ways.
1) They're just newbies.
uh...as far as I can see, that's all the more reason not to backstab. Its kinda along the in game lines of entering a playground and beating up the kindergardeners.
2) Its just BGH, so obviously its not a serious game.
BGH is serious to those who play it, but you're entering it from a league far above it. See #1
3) There are worse things like swearing and racism.
Racism disgusts me, but swearing? give me a break. if someone tells me to perform a physically impossible act on myself, it doesn't ruin my day, but is someone betrays trust I have given them (there is a matter of trust in all mele games) then it really gives one a bad feeling.
4) It's just a game
Whether its just a game or not, there is a matter of trust that is given in all mele games. What would b-net be like if you entered a game knowing that you would probably be backstabbed and so have to play the entire time defending against your partner rather than defeating the enemy?

Excellent points top gun and Angry Salad. As I said, Seiruu and A_Backstabber, I think the act of backstabbing is a hideous deplorable act, but only in the context of bnet. Of course there are worse things you can do in real life, but on bnet backstabbing is about the worse thing you can do to someone.
I personally don't really care too much when someone insults, and I don't care at all if some says fuck in an uninsulting way. eg: "Fuck, im dead"
On the other hand having an ally drop multiple reavers in your back door is a real kick in the nuts, and makes it almost impossible to win.
Backstabbing is still a rather uncommon occurence on bnet, the time I described in an earlier post is the only time it has ever happened to me. But it was enough to really piss me off.
You said yourself A_Backstabber, you posted this report to see how people would react. Now you know. |

First of all backstabbing in Starcraft ( which is hardly a violent game ) is certainly not in the same league as racism. Swearing is "dirty" but certainly not exactly a major moral lapse. Backstabbing if you're in a 7v1 comp or something can be acceptable, but this report gets a 2 from me because of the disqusting way you killed someone who wanted to be your friend and help you.
And that's not mentioning that it was on BGH with newbies and gay humour. |

| I'm new to this whole new BR.com stuff. I'm hooked into reading these reports, be it about anything. My first report to read was Raiders long ass story which is yet to finish (its good). I've been reading the comments up to maybe 50 I think, maybe more, and so I skipped down to comment becuase it's the same old shit over and over again. BTW, concerning A_Backstabber, I liked it, it was humorous. I give it an 8. It seems like some of you are riding eachothers dicks and are making this great idea of reporting gaming adventures into such a political thing. Don't get sidetracked or else you might lose viewers. I was rolling on the part about KP. I didn't know what it meant, I have never heard of it. Korean Pride, lol. Good stuff. I want to test out my hand at writing reports soon. GGz all. |
