And a tip folks, never ever put any more than one point for any of the low level stuff. The only thing you are going to want more than 1 point for the Amazon is: Critical strike (get that to around 46-50%), strafe, immolation arrow, Valkrei (or however you spell the silly word), Ice explosion (?) and maybe multi shot. I think I missed one or two though... heh. |

Hey I thought this was a great report. I laughed through the whole thing and it was a great game. And I didn't even care about the frikin anime pic! I think the triple dialogue with fox propping Mark4 the whole time was sweet ass. I got all the jokes and they ruled.
I don't see where probe is coming from, unless maybe he's just mad at you personally or something. I don't want to get into any more arguments (already in a couple ;) ) But I thought this was a sweet report that should get an 8 or 9. I enjoyed it.
But as the above people said, more for comedy and fun, rather than strat. But difficult to do a serious BR for this one, cause Mark4 got beaten really bad (he did put up fight though). As you can't really learn a lot from one sided battles, the lack of details IMHO is forgivable.
I liked it, and probably lots of other people who didn't post liked it. Probably minority feel as strongly against it as probe.
I'd give it a 7,8.
If it was better game (which would mean more battle details), it would get higher.
That was just my two cents.

Mainly because of the details. There are none. All you really get to know is Tiller macroed and won over Mark4:s micro... thats less detail then I used and I was flamed for it.
The comedy part is great though, hehe "frosty"..

So, there you have it. Who would have thought that a decent battle report writer would have gotten his ass kicked by one of the best players in the world?
The main problem I had was that I went far too long without scouting, and I didn't buy enough templars. The 50 muta horde was almost a complete surprise to me. If I scouted five minutes earlier instead of trying to drop two or three more expansions, I could have had the twelve or so corsair I needed to defend. Not that it would have won me the game, but I would have had a chance. From the time my main fell to the end of the game was about half an hour...and I'd stopped playing to win, I was just trying to annoy Tiller =]. His macro was a "lot" better than mine. He expanded well and massed troops...I just expanded. |

yeah bane i did read that but you see.. you released the pics with your ... how do i say this... less skillful imagery included.
I have some tips for you:
A) Buttonizing a picture is bad - if you could put a border instead or even a simple drop shadow it looks so much better.
B) Zoom in when cutting out minimaps. I can't even begin to tell you how bothered I get when i see that crappy "edge" stuff that shouldn't be there.
C) Those fonts are completely awful. Most specifically the Hydras (some sort of sign goes here I couldn't see it correctly and I'm assuming it was >) Reavers font and the Early game font.
D) Can't wait for a new report. :P With, of course, gosu imagery. |

I was disappointed somewhat. The game was good for a report (even though we knew Tiller was going to win as soon as he got those mutas) but I felt like it was being skimmed over a good deal. With as much micro going on as there was, it seemed very brief.
I'm an all-text advocate, but if you're going to put images in there, they should at least look good. THese weren't bad, but instead of giving people points becuase they've been good in the past, they should at least be held to the standards they've set for themselves. I've seen better-written, better-imaged games from all three of these guys individually, and what disappointed me was that this was the worst BR I've seen any of them do (unless I;m forgetting one =P)
From an objective point of view, I'd give it a 7. But because I think we all know these guys are capable of far more, I'll give it a 6 =P. Same "Mark4 is God" joke got old after the fourth time or so.
But then, my rating doesn't really count =).
Oh, yeah, Mark--good work holding off TIller for as long as you did--that must've been a helluva lot of work.

Okay, the most basic rule of commentating is that you have one person describing the action and the other 2 people analyzing what is happening.
One commentator should be slightly oafish and stupid providing humor, the other should be halfway intelligent making competent analyzation of what the players are doing. Using this formula helps give the report a healthy balance of strategy, humor, and informaton for the reader.
If you don't follow this formula and just have anyone say whatever, then you don't have a consistent flow in your report. It becomes choppy, uneven, and annoying... kind of like this one... :(
The only reason that I'm giving this report a 7 is because I really enjoyed watching two really good and well known players duke it out. If it weren't for that factor, this report would be silver in my book.
That's my honest opinion, take it how you will.

This was mentioned on my forum a while ago:
There are some battle reports that are only good because of the writing and entertainment value. You take a mediocre set of players and you add some humor and good captions and eye candy and the report is readable because it's entertaining.
There are other classes of battle reports that people actually would read to get *strategy*. For those, it is less important that you're entertaining, and more important that you convey the BR in a thorough and understandable manner.
I think the Mark4/Tiller series should have clearly been the latter. People read these reports because they rarely get to see a player like Tiller in action. I think the commentary and all that were entertaining, but it was more distracting in this report than helpful. I would have loved to see long, detailed reports for these series so that the readers could have learned something about Tiller and Mark4's strats. If I want entertainment, I'll read any of the other numerous reports here between unknowns that have the fancy graphics and animations and humor.
K I hope that wasn't too harsh. I think the report was done very well, I just thought the style of the report wasn't the best option given that I was itching to learn more about how Tiller plays. I found myself just peering at the minimap and screenshots trying to intuit what was going on so I could extrapolate my own strategies from it, and all but ignoring the text.
