How this got a 10, I do not know. You should all realize that if it hadn't been Dref that posted it, you would be flaming away. This "report" is quite lame. Do not be afraid to criticize the work of the raters. You DO NOT have to kiss up to them. If they get angry at criticism, then they should not be rating in the first place. I can't believe the comments that people have made with respect to this piece of trash.
I believe that Dref intended it to be funny, and to some it might be. But a 10? Heh, pretty sad that the raters have stooped to such a level that they give each other overblown ratings.
Please do reread this "report" after forgetting that Dref wrote it. Then think to yourself what rating you would give it. I think that it at most deserves a 5.

I agree that calling this a "piece of trash" was too harsh. It is not the report that I have a problem with, but the universal praise that is given regardless of the quality of the report. Compare this to any other report that has received a 10 and I think you will understand what I am talking about.
As for Bob thinking this is the "best report ever"; perhaps he should not be a rater. Does anyone else agree that this actually deserved a 10? Does anyone else think that this would have received positive praise had it not been written by Dref or one of the other "revered" battlereporters? Does anyone else think that this is the best report ever? I think not.
As for you challenging me to writing something better, you should know better than that. When you post something here, you are stating that you are willing to accept criticism (spl?) from the general public. When someone states that they do not completely approve with what has been presented, you cannot simply say to them "I bet you can't do better". That is a weak way out without having to actually defend what you have presented. There are many examples of this IRL such as movie critics, art critics, etc. Simply accept what people say without using the gradeschool response of "I bet you can't do better".
Finally, I have noticed a trend of when someone doesn't agree with the rating that a report was given, everyone else who supports the rating says things such as "Who cares about the rating", or "The rating doesn't really matter". I would argue that those that actually spend a lot of time on their reports _do care_ about the ratings they receive. If the ratings do not matter, then why have them at all? I would have no problem with the rating system being removed, since it always seems to come out that the "ratings do not matter".
So... my viewpoint stands that this report received way too much acclaim for its quality. I also stand by my view that this was due to Drefsab having written it. If you have something intelligent to say in response, please do. I have nothing against the raters, I just feel that if there is going to be a rating system, it should be consitent. I realize that there are very few people that feel the way that I do (by having read previous reports), but I thought this should be brought to light.

Bob has a long and respected history at this site. He can rate reports however the hell he wants to.
As for my "challenge"... I was not challenging you to write something better. What I was saying was produce something as funny or funnier and I will be more than happy to give you a high score.
I don't have to defend my work. I think its pretty damned funny. If you don't like it, and you don't think it deserves a 10, that's your pill to swallow. There's probably others who feel the same as you. But at the same time there are others who thought this was funny as hell and at least one person who thought it deserved a 10. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions including you.
Feel free to criticize my report. That is perfectly fine with me. But I don't think its really your place to criticize other people's opinions of this report. Everyone should be free to form their own opinions and you don't need to be criticizing them for it.

I was going to write a long and drawn out essay on my stance on this issue, but...nah. I will say that I would not have given it a ten. It was funny, very well written, yet it wasn't very long (*Ahem* Get going on the sequel Dref), so I'd go with a lower gold rating.
I'm not going to say that other raters shouldn't give it a ten, I won't criticise their opinions, it's an opinion, and I won't try to change it (not that I could). So, I'll give you my opinion:

This report sucks. The first report I've read of Drefsab's where the only reason I finished it was because he wrote it and even then I was glad it was over. But hey, Dref likes it, his buddies like it, so bully for them.

I used to worry about the rating system here but I researched a lot of old reports and I've found that the ratings are fairly consistent. This is a fan site, a Starcraft club so to speak, and there is an "in-crowd" of folks who invest a lot of time and energy into their contributions here. So, if things get a little "clubby" around here sometimes you can't complain. In the end if you really want your opinions to count you'll have to pay your dues as a reporter/denizen of ~nohunters, get elected as a rater and then let your ratings fly. You won't beat 'em but you can join 'em.

No Scarab, what Mark is trying to say is, each rater has their own unique opinion on what makes a good report. These opinions normally come together in a pretty fair rating. (That's why it's so difficult to get a pure 10).

To each his own, I can see why this report got such good ratings. Lesbian sex scenes and Starcraft to boot.
But lets face Reality folks. Drefsab being, well, Drefsab DOES improve his rating. Yes he has a consistantly high quality of reports, and for that reason he can take risk (such as this) and people will automaticlly approach it with the mindset that "this should be funny/good"
Its reputation. And its not a bad thing.
If someone posted this as their first BR (unlikely) I suspect itd get a comparable rating, but would it be a few points lower? Would we see 6's and 7's, and no 10's? Would not people flame and say "this belongs in the 'Other' section" or say "your a sick 12 year old perv." (well, not to many of that last comment considering the demographics of this group)
Im not saying Drefsab doesnt deserve his extra boost. He has worked hard to earn his reputation, he should reap its benefits, like people giving him the benefit of doubt that the report is good while they read it. But at the same time, lets not kid ourselves and pretend unknowns posting BR's for the first time dont have their mistakes magnified, while the Drefsab's of Battlereports.com dont have some of their mistakes or risks overlooked.

Has anyone else had really shitty service at Village Inn before? Me and my friends went there to eat b4 seeing X-men, which is a good movie. I ordered a t-bone steak medium well with mashed potatoes. It takes about 40 minutes to get our @#$%ing food, which was probably due to the fact that every ten minutes we heard a plate drop, which could ONLY be my steak every friggin time hittin the damn floor. When we finally do get our food we have about 5 minutes to eat it b4 we gotta get back to the theater, when I then notice that my steak is cooked rare and my mashed potatoes could easily be mistaken for ice cream (yes they were that @#%$ing cold). So here I am, 1:30 in the morning, with a nice little stomach ache.
On a brighter side, we got a new microwave today!!!! Why is that such EXTREME news? Because now I can microwave popcorn. For those of you confused, let me explain how well our old microwave popped popcorn. First, you had to just let the microwave run for about 10 minutes so it would be a little warm when you put the bag in. Then, you put the bag in and set it for another 8 minutes. And finally, when it's all done, you have about half the bag popped! Sure, you could wait another 8 minutes or so for the other half to pop, but then the first half would then be burned to hell, SO WHY BOTHER?!?!?!?
In summary, I don't like village inn, and when my stomach ache goes away, I'm gettin myself some kickass popcorn! I don't care if I have to wait till 5:00 in the morning, I'm gonna wait this damn thing out!!!!!! |

Well, as a porn star myself, I am giving this report a deserving 10. And if you care to hear why, I will tell you.
I was gone over the weekend and am just now seeing the report, so I am sorry that my comment will be somewhere in the high 100's. But anyway, when I scrolled down the list of new reports written since I left for the weekend, and I saw Dref's name, I immediately clicked on the report, knowing I was in for something good.
I agree that the interactive report and some other FFA's and WC3W reports, etc. that I also gave 10's ratings were much harder to write and put together, and took much longer to do. However this sexy report had nearly all the elements I look for in a super gold "10" rating: Originality, humor, style, surprises and delights, excitement, etc. The only thing lacking was breaking new ground in Starcraft related strategy or gameplay.
I loved this report and will read anything by Dref immediately. If this report had been written by someone else, and if I had read it (because others rated it highly or I liked the name, whatever) I believe (I admit I do not know for sure), that I would have rated it a 10 as well.
