Don't feel bad Mediocre. I came back to BW the other day to play a few games and got destroyed by none other than GAY Bob-the-Newt and Ronin. My skills have atrophied to the point where I'm probably not even good enough to be called a "newbie" anymore. At least you put up a fight against Mantra, who is a great player.

Okay, for those who are confused, team melee means each team starts out with one base. Each _team_, not each player. If the players pick different races, you get two workers of each type. Which type your town hall is is chosen at random.
In this game, Mediocre and SilentStrike were on one team; Mediocre got Zerg and SilentStrike got Protoss, so that they wound up with a hatchery, two drones, and two probes. Mark4 and Mantra got Terran and Zerg respectively, giving them a command center, two SCVs, and two drones. Since most buildings require a town hall to build, the players concentrated initially on the races their town halls belonged to--i.e., Zerg for Mediocre/SilentStrike, and Terran for Mark4/Mantra. Mediocre did, however, take advantage of the superior Protoss building technique when he made the assimilator for gas, and Mantra... well, we saw what Mantra did with his drones. :)
(BTW, in this type of game, if one of your races is Zerg, it's good to use them for expansions. Hatcheries cost only 350 minerals, counting the cost of the drone, whereas command centers and nexuses cost 400; plus hatcheries expand your ability to make Zerg troops as well as the usual town hall functions. A minor edge, but useful nonetheless.)
I wasn't reading carefully at first, and didn't notice this was team melee. I started wondering what Mark4 was smoking when I saw the Zerg warping in an assimilator, and the Terran building hatcheries... only at the end, when the Terran overran the Zerg with hydralisks and zerglings, did I realize it was a team melee game.
Mark4 is right, though, team melee is much fun. I need to play it more... |

Some further notes on team melee. Normally you get a split supply total, just like you do when you use mind control; i.e., your Zerg troops need overlords, your Protoss troops need pylons, and your Terran troops need supply depots. However, if both players are the same race, instead of a split supply total you get a supply maximum of 400, to keep things balanced.
Resources are shared by all of the players on a team. Control of units is also shared. This means that you can have one player take the troops out to scout and raid while the other keeps the economy pumping... very useful.
As long as you can both agree on what you ought to be doing. |

Your town hall is not random. It is from the race of the first player on each team.
I'm 95% sure that your control limit is NOT extended in team melee games where all player pick the same race. Can someone test this out? |

Reliving the classics. I've noticed that the online community has deteriorted the longer i've been in it. War2 on kali had the best community, bw on kali and nh had the second best, war3 has a bunch of assholes. Sigh
