heh heh, I liked it. Especially considering the fact that my lips turn blue from lack of oxygen when I run more than a mile at a time. (That's what I get for throwing away all my Army brochures.)

I think I'll go run a couple of laps around my house and then I'll be just like Mark. :-)

Despite me having a lot of respect for mark4, this doesnt deserve a 7. You guys bitched when [e]KeN copied his guide here, but this is obviously worse! This isnt even game related. Giving this a 7 is just showing how biased the rating system is =/.

Awesome report, I really enjoyed it. I've always wanted to know what people thought about while they're running, I usually just sing a song in my head althought that could get a *little* repetitive after four hours. Thanks anyway, I enjoyed it.

Actually, I would rather read this then some guide made by [e]KeN. It may not be starcraft related but there are alot of good reports on this site that aren't game related.

I could never run a marathon and when I have to run 4 laps in my school I get stomach cramps. Next time I do it though I will just remember this report and it will give me inspiration. I will just kind of block out the old lady and put in a permanent Marine Babe.

I wanna be, wanna be like Mark4.

SiRLoSeALoT: Who says reports have to be game related? & Mark deserves a 7 for surviving a marathon, regardless of the quality of the report.

And, OF COURSE the ratings system is biased...human beings are rating these, and humans are very failiable creatures.

Heh... I ran the Boston marathon my freshman year at MIT and it hurt, a lot. Mine was probably easier than yours too because there were tons and tons of fans cheering the entire way. Around mile 13 you pass Wellesley and tons of women are there cheering and screaming and jumping up and down... =) Lots of people say if you want to get all the fun out of the Boston Marathon with none of the pain, you should take a car out to mile 12, dump water all over your head and then jog through mile 13; miles 14-20 suck a lot after that...

Incidentally, is walking during your water breaks a good idea? Whenever I run if I stop to walk a stretch I have a really hard time starting up again. I even jogged in place as I passed the water stations so I wouldn't get into "walking mode."

Hey guys, I have an idea, why don't we all have a contest of who can stick their head farther up M4's ass! That would be so cool! I'll start:
Oh Mark, you are the greatest person on earth. (dam, my ears don't fit,let me turn my head a bit here... ah, that's better) By running a marathon you have demonstrated that you are head and shoulders above us all and we do not deserve to breathe the same air that you do (ok, I am sliding my mouth in, so my speech may become a bit less comprehensive). It does not matter that this "report" has nothing to do with gaming and I rated Heartcutter's deep six guide a "3", I'll give a "9" just because you are da man and i want to be on your team in 2v2 or have you report one of my games!

Yes, Mark I am absolutely aware of that. You mean to tell me you don't form your opinion based on that of other people? Well, in that case, unlike you, since you were born a genious, I read books and a lot of my opinions have formed from reading and listening to other people.

If you speak about me listening to other people such as Lifeispeachy (i am not sure how you spell his name, but you know who i am talking about) and then saying that people suck up to you, well no. It does not take an Einstein to figure out that people tend to suck up to you.

Persian, the Olympic marathon record is about low 2 hours for men and around 2:30 for women. There is no exact time since it depends to a certain degree on the course.

Hey Raider, jealousy is a cruel cruel thing isn't it?

I admit I'm jealous. I wish I could run a marathon, and write great stories about them too. But I gotta settle with doing things I'm capable of, and being happy with my own life. Perhaps you should try that!

I gave this report a 9 cause I really enjoyed reading it. Partially cause I'm friends with Mark and it was great reading about his marathon, and partially cause it was funny and very well written. If it wasn't for Mark4, then this site would not exist...

During my morning run, I headed through a hospital parking lot (it abuts the campus) and I came across a police man patrolling the area. As I passed he asked, in what seemed to be a serious voice "Getting your 10 miles in for the day?"

I had to laugh. My only response was "oh, God no. Maybe 2."

And that would have to be a really good day.

Congrats on finishing.. that's a hell of an achievement, irregardless of what time you got. When I was younger, I used to ride my bike a TON, and I got an inkling of what it would feel like to run that far on the day that I rode my bike 200 miles -- from Cleveland all the way over into Pennsylvania and back -- and I had learned the most important thing is to PACE YOURSELF. Of course, I had extra incentive to, since once I got to PA, I had to ride 100 miles back, and quitting wasn't an option since I had to be home by dusk (about 10 pm). I still remember about halfway through the way home, I was starting to hit what I coined the "black wall", where my thoughts just start going totally blank because the aching in the legs just overwhelm everything else. As I managed to find out, you conquer that wall, there's almost no limit to how far you can go, because the last 50 miles I rode ended up being the FASTEST (and into a headwind!) of my whole trip. Heh. But man, I was sore for an entire week after THAT trip.. but on the bright side, it made 100 mile trips seem like a breeze. It's kinda hilly around here too, so that adds an extra challenge.

Heh. I just might be inspired to get back to biking again after reading this. I'd forgotten just how rewarding it was to push your limits.

You guys are way basied toward your own community people. You know that this did not deserve 9's and 8's. What a way to enourage hard trying people who always end up getting 6s~7s despite better attempts than this.

Seriously, had someone else other than Mark4 wrote this, would you have given him these ridiculous ratings? I doubt it. I am sure there will be tons of people who will flame me for saying the "Truth." But if there is some non-baised reader with decency, he/she will agree with me.

Uh, it would seem people misinterpret my post. It was not intended against Mark4, who I have nothing against, but rather laughing at people who laud him for really no reason, at least from my point of view. Sure he ran a marathon and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. However, I am sure he is not the only athlete at this site, more than that I am sure that there are people whose athletic achievements greatly acceed his. Yet, somehow, I think that if someone else were to post here about their athletic events, it would be taken as bragging. I may be wrong, and I have no compunction against admitting that, but I have yet to see any evidence for that.

Secondly, why is any remark about how people lick Mark's ass at this site taken as expression of jealosy? Just think about it Jealosy for what? Bunch of ramdom people on the internet lauding you!? Come on, you could really make up a better comeback than this. Besides stop defending M4, he is not the one being laughed at.

Funny report Mark4. Don't feel bad about the lady, My father (retired marine) and I ran a marathon last month. He always does and I agreed to run it with him. I didn't even finish. Mainly because I didn't pace myself well enough, and I live in CO where the air has no oxygen. Also 26 miles is just long!!

But kudos to you for finishing, it takes a lot of willpower. I mean after 15 miles I just wanted to kill myself, and this 500 lb. 5'2" kid who like passed me 3 times!!! I am in shape, but man 26 miles!!!! My hats off to you Mark4.

Mark4 has a writing style that is very good at portraying emotion during an event, whether it be a SC game or a marathon. It is this ability to translate the essence of an event that makes his reports far superior to others which look superficially the same but are rated 5-7.

couple things. I think it was a great report i would give it a high score cause im bored of reading the same people using the same strats in the same game, this is the first time that i have actually read every word of an article in months. It was very interesting, very well written, also its a good thing he "accidentally" posted it in Starcraft cause otherwise noone would have read it.

I kinda know how you felt, how I used to feel every day at the end of football practice, except i didnt run 26 miles, although we were physically excersizing alot of time doing hard shit for around 3 hours and 30 minutes every day. Over the summer 6-7 hours. Not that I think i'd ever be able to run a 26 mile marathon.

There have been quite a few comments here that say, would you have given this a 7 or 8 or 9 if it was someone other than Mark4? YES! I believe there was a well written Martial Arts report written a while back that got similar ratings. I think it ended up with about an 8. Mark4 didn't write it, and if I had to compare the two, I'd say this marathon report was a tiny bit better, because it "drew me in" just a little more.

Anyway, saying that this report didn't deserve this or that based upon nothing more than a whiney opinion isn't good enough. Try going out and finding better written reports with lower scores. I didn't even rate this report and I'm pissed at some of these comments...

Another way to affect the ratings is to become a Hall of Fame writer, submit a ratings application, prove that you're a responsible individual, and be "hired" as a rater (you won't get paid, but you will get bitched at). It's simple really, you have a fairly good chance of becoming a rater if you can just coast your way into winning a Hall of Fame vote or massively contributing in some other way. Getting into the Hall of Fame is much easier than running a marathon, so you'd have no qualms rating this well written report much lower than it deserves... (yes, it's sarcasm!)

Anyway, good work and well written report, Mark4. I wish I was physically able to run a marathon... the closest I ever came to that were 5-6 mile runs in college (which isn't even close).

MARK! Awesome br! Heh, that guy raider is a moron. Hey raider search for my name under BR authors and read all of my non SC related reports. Some of them are actually funny and received ratings higher than 6!

They have a web service that goes to these sort of runs and takes pics and posts them on the web. Then they try and get you to buy actual pics from them. This is the pic of me at the finish line, which ended at the marine fitness center track.

I mean everytime in the past that you have linked an old report you have "last" in the comments followed by someone saying,"GJ on saying last on a report you linked to."
