| Well, the poster lives up to his name. Johnny, I would recommend deleting this post. There is nothing of importance here, unless of course, someone views childish and immature behaivor as useful. It is people like the poster (you know, the ones who can't win without backstabbing) who have turned myself and my friends away from Bnet. It is a shame and those people are pathetic. |

A backstabber is still a backstabber no matter what the circumstances. No one is forcing you to interact with BGH players; if you don't like the map they play then just ignore them. They bought the game so they have the right to play whatever they wish without havin to worry about people such as yourself.
Go for the challenge. Play a real game instead of backstabbing players that aren't good enough to handle it. |
| #6 Guy[966] |

| Umm, I think 6v1 comps are a special case. If they backstab 5v3,4v4 comp, or just bgh games, then its debatable. |
| #7 Bulgarokton[967] |
|
| I agree with saying backstab isnt nice, and that pple have the right to play bgh. What i dont find very normal, is that bnet didnt do a special option like the ones: Show ALL, Melee, Ladder , etc... which would be called non mucho money blizzard map. Its annoying to look out for games for 1 hour without finding anything. |
| #8 ~CattleBruiser~[969] |

A 6v1 comp game is no different than any other game. Many people play them to get comfortable with b.net when they are new and most people eventually grow tired of the same old game every day and ultimately move on to bigger and better venues.
I know several people in my channel that started their b.net careers in x vs. 1 comp games. These games allow people to learn the entire tech tree of a race without much worry of getting hurt and are great stepping stones into real competitive games.
Yes, it might be lame, but they shelled out $50 to have the right to be lame. Unlike backstabbers, they don't directly ruin the enjoyment that other people get out of the game. |
| #9 Bulgarokton[971] |
|
| When u say pple play xv1cpu its becouse they wanna pratice, thats fine with me. u may even have some friends who did that. But i think u r talkin about a minority here. most pple who play bgh arent always newbies, and either do this to get a better record (who cares about record, will u say, but i think its a worthy indicator) or because they have fun devaluing the purpose of the game . now i dont say backstab is good, but bnet should create some option: non muchmoney bliz mlap |

| An interesting debate. I might argue that when I beat someone in ladder I "ruin thier enjoyment" of the game. I have to admit I've joined a few 7v1 comp games and cleared the map of everyone else. I basically wanted to see if BGH experts really could take advantage of the superior resources. Turned out that my standard macro was equal to the task. You generally take the comp no problem, then fight four or five players once you declare your intentions. |

Well first off, the pictures were a nice try, but didn't really lend anything to the report and basically just pissed me off because it takes this crappy Mac Netscape forever and a day to load anything.
As for the backstabbing thing, CB is exactly right when he says that these people who shell out the dough paid for the right to be as lame and one dimensional as they like.
Two points:
1) I'd estimate that 90% + of them didn't actually pay for it; their parents' did.
2) I paid $50 too. I believe that I've paid for my own right to stomp on them as I please. |

I learned how to play by playing usvscomps, gradually working my way into real games. I got backstabbed a lot of times, and every time it made me wanna be as good as that backstabber who wiped up me and my partners. I say so long as your outnumbered by the people you backstab by 2:1 or more, its fine. Backstabbing is one of those things that has a LOT of gray areas.
Oh yeah, are you vigilantes just doing this with comps bgh or with all bgh? |
| #14 PhuckinRhetard[981] |
|
I also paid 50 bucks +30 for brood war to play Good games of starcraft. Not to play a bunch of newbie assholes who end up killing me in a BGH because they all make 24 carriers. Gimme a fucking break, this is a Strategy game, I wish to keep it that way, and no matter what your standard game morals Are CattleBruiser - I will keep doing this.
We only do this in BGH games Bob, Any BGH games. |
| #15 ~CattleBruiser~[982] |
|
Good points above, but let me ask,
You call the 7v1ers on ruining your enjoyment of the game and so you backstab to have GOOD games of Starcraft? And if the "newbie assholes who end up killing me in a BGH because they all make 24 carriers" were that bad they wouldn't kill you. If that's not your style of play you prefer (I sure don't) then don't play them.
People complain constantly about not being able to find games that aren't BGH or some mucho money variant. With a little patience and possibly the right channel, it is very easy to get a good competitive game going. Isn't that your intended goal?
Backstabbing a 7v1 comp player will not necessarily make him change his ways, anymore than my stating my opinion will change your ways. If more people would create games on unordinary maps instead of bemoaning the lack of those same games, we might get somewhere. |

Well this ethical debate will rage on forever and ever, and I can only say that because the option of unallying is in the game, backstabbing will always be present, especially in these comp games. Sure, it may be lame, but some people in real life are lame. B.net is made up of people from the world who all have their own beliefs and attitudes, and some people are going to do things like this.
Anyway, IMO going into a game and killing all the newbies gets boring. What's REALLY fun is to go into a game (with a couple friends) and act like a complete idiot. Things like making 10 Greater Spires, or 6 CC's so you can mass SCV rush, or flooding someone's base with overlords, or making 37 barracks but no marines, is much more fun. It's also fun to try to get people to backstab you. Read Adventures in Newbieland IV. |
| #19 PhuckinRhetard[993] |
|
| Well, I HAVE done this, my most current battle I made 10 robotics, made 50+ observers and sent them into a base full of photon cannons. I then shouted "WTF YOU FUCKING CHEATER" |
| #20 Willzzz[997] |

Backstabbing is ALWAYS wrong.
Even in a 6v1 BGH game. People say that these people suck and need to be taught a lesson, they have no skill, and no right to play proper starcraft.
Well, this does not teach them anything, nor does it teach you anything. A player that backstabs in 6v1 comp games is likely to havew little more skill than the people they are back stabbing.
It is a case where everbody loses. A backstabber is no better than a 6v1 compstomper, they both play exactly the same game. |
| #21 StarGodz[998] |
|
| One of the points of the game is to get a little diplomacy going, this means that you ally when it helps you and you unally when it doesn't help you. If PhuckinRhetard wants to stab, that is a viable option and frankly, I think its fun. |
| #22 ralessi[999] |
|
| Hmm... well that anonymous person was me =) But anyway, don't be so fucking serious. It is hilarious to kill a person who has 48670827986087064706073060789437098 canons with 1 siege tank... I mean it is comedy... If YOU were the one getting backstabbed on and killed so easily, what would you think? You would think damn, maybe there IS something wrong with playing BGH and maybe canon in and carriers sucks!!! Think of it that way =) |
| #23 Mark4[1002] |
|
| You know, cannon in and get carriers is actually seen as a viable strat by some people. I had someone carrier rush me on an island ladder game for instance. Plenty of cannons; but when you do a moderately quick reaver drop, you can pretty much forget about the old carrier rush =]. No reason to really mention this, just a thought. |

| Maybe some ppl get a huge kick and HAVE FUN (perhaps at the expense of others) by backstabbing in BGH games. They have a right to do that, because they also paid 50 bucks for the game. If they win (fairly uncheaply) against others who r getting cheap wins, let them be. It may be at the expense of others, but many times losing is at the expense of the loser. |
| #26 PhuckinRhetard[1024] |
|
Well, this game wasn't exactly easy to win, it was the two of us vs 3 people(1 disconnect) and a computer. Sure the first guy was easy to kill but the others found out that I had jacked their team mate. So it's hard to be sneakyabout back stabbing in big games.
NOTE to backstabbers: Its hard to backstab 7on1s. |
| #27 Mind Twist[1025] |
|
| This reminds me of PK'ing in Diablo. I sometimes PK'ed ppl in public games when I was bored, but I cooped too. It's a game, people can do ANYTHING they want. BGH'ers can play and get cheap wins, and respectively "backstabbers" can join the BGH games and bother the BGH'ers. There's no real cure. A good idea is to make a "Blizzard No Mucho Money Map" section in the Join Game list. |
| #28 renegade95[1032] |

Hmm. Backstabber
BGHBackstabbing is co0, i know, but they have the right to play it. Infact, I'll play it 3v3 or 4v4 just cause there's no huge requirement to expand to where u dont have room anyway.
BTW - you'll die if you ever try to backstab my bgh game :)
I play hunters2v2,3v3 tho.. I'm no newbie |
| #29 Snowreaver[1037] |
|
Hum. I've done the backstabbing bit myself, and been done the same... and yes, people paid 50+ bucks to play the game if they wanna do 7v1's... but so did the stabbers. So long as no hack is invovled, it's a fair shot, if not a bastard of a one. Come down to it - anything you can do legit means anything goes, including unclicking that ally box. Doesn't make you a lot of friends amongst the xv1 folks, but if ya don't care, what's it matter?

I think Starcraft/Bnet would be greatly enriched by enabling a diplomacy option for the game type. The normal game types that exist now (melee etc.) have diplomacy ON, where there can be shifting in alliances. That's cool. However, if there were also game option with FIXED diplomacy then not only would players be able to not sweat backstabbers if they didn't want to, they might stay in and get credited with a win from their team even if their buildings were eliminated.
If my early rush helps eliminate one of the opponents giving my team a winning edge but hurting my economy, or even if I get wiped off the map but in the process of dying, my teammate gets to tech up or amass troops unmolested and then wins the game, but my buildings are killed, my actions have materially advanced the cause of my team and contributed to (and in some cases actually secured) the victory. I should be able to watch the rest of the game, and receive credit for the win.
This also goes along with my desire for an official observer mode.
And what's this about a drop hack? Can you hack where the other guy "has lost connection to b.net?" If so, I believe this has happened to me a few times where I was winning...
Just to get things straight, I think that using any hacks is wrong. I also agree with those who feel that all backstabbing is wrong, although with the game set up the way it is without fixed alliances, it is an unavoidable (and almost encouraged, it seems) reality of the game. |

| Well, just to add my 2 cents. Don't be suprised if a "good" player smurfs you in one of these games. ;-) Or maybe more than one "good" player. Smurf the smurf... always enjoyable. |

I don't like backstabbers. Sorry. It's me, not you.
BGH is like.... a big toilet bowl. A place where all the crappy players can play together.
I think that it's good that they're doing it there, instead of mucking everything else up. Backstabbing people in there is not nice. Leave them be.

Hey CB, think about this
I think bgh backstabbing in 6 or 7v1 comp games is OK
Because all they do is sit there for hours getting easy wins, bogging the servers down so those of us who actually play have to have really bad lag
that's just my side of the argument |
| #35 ~CattleBruiser~[1135] |
|
| As far as I know, Cashew, b.net leaves the picture once the game commences and the fastest connection of the players "hosts" the game. The number of games running don't affect lag for this reason (although the number of people on b.net can definitely cause lag as everyone's seen ;) ) This is also why you can lose your connection to battle net and still play the game (if a game was actually on the server, losing your connection to b.net would drop you from the game). |

I see your point, BGH comp stomp is indeed lacking in niveau, but backstabbing is worse. It is de facto hacking, as the programm takes your opponent the ability to hit back for the deciding 5 seconds. If you want to clean out those guys, announce your attentions, resolve your alliances and then try to beat them in a fair game.
If you don't/can't do this it's fucking treacherous. My advice to the victims of backstabbing: DISCONNECT! That's the best they deserve. |
