No doubt Grrrr... builds alot of shit.
Once me and some random guy in X17 doubled vs LK(zerg) and Gad(toss). Gad and LK doubled me early with 5 zeals and ~20 zerglings. Luckily I held(as terran), but then they proceeded to rape my zerg partner, as I was still recovering from the pounding they had delivered.
To make a long story short, I tried to backdoor LK (* no, not that way ^^) with 12 random terran units, only to be quickly met by 5 ranged goons. My shit died hard. Literally 20 seconds after that, like 9 ranged goons started pounding my base. I could tell it was Gad, cuz the goons never wasted a single shot; he shift-qued my buildings and danced like mad.
Resigning with a GG, Gad gave me vision. The game time was ~9 minutes.
He expanded after those 5 zeals, got gas right after and got to 8 gates. He built nothing but probes until he got enough control to pump like 8 goons at a time. Therefore, he delayed his Cyber until like 30 supply, then got range ASAP. Naturally, he Maynard transfered to his expand. |

| Heh, I still remember when Whoop was smurfing and playing 2v2's against me & JV, and we barely managed to win both games because he had a sucky, and I do mean sucky, partner. One of the games was the fastest lurker rush I've ever seen and damn near killed us both. Heh. Lesson learned: Don't mess with Whoop! |

I remember that Whoop finally ran out of money after mining the map, and throwing about 900 units at us, mostly cracklings. He then left the game, but we never really got a chance to attack him. Sorry, but I thought this report really sucked.... I don't like when one of the players reports the game, because he was concentrating on the game, not taking notes on exactly what happened.... well I guess you had to report it anyway since you beat Grrr...
And oh yeah, my partner and I are like 40-1 for 2v2's so if you ever wanna play... look for:

I thought the report was fine and was at a reasonable level of detail considering that he probably didn't go into the game knowing that he'd be BR-ing it later. Sometimes you play a good game and then decide afterward you want to share it. I think it's sad that there's somewhat of a pressure here that you have to put tonsl this time and effort into a game and have to be an observor and it has to go through this whole meticulous process before you consider reporting something here, otherwise you get the usual "This sucks rocks" - type comments.
Personally, I'd rather someone just feel free to report a BR here that isn't stellar, versus not reporting it at all. If they don't have 5 hours to spend on it, I'd rather they just write a few paragraphs and post it here, than not write it at all. As it is, you see informal but educational BR's all the time on other forums, so there's no reason why the standard has to be so high here, because I don't think that was the original intent of the BR staff (correct me if I'm wrong). An attempt at grammar and proofreading, and having something interesting to say, is really all I'd impose as a standard if I were in charge. That's how I ran my battle reports archive way back then.

| I'm all for short reports that contain something interesting such as "Beating X'd'sGrrrrr". My last report with MArk4 beating NTT is a good example. I only spent 1.25 hours on it, which is far less than the usual. I think lately we've seen a trend for a lot of people to just post text-only reports that are enjoyable to read. For instance, I really enjoyed Ice's report from his Phoenix tournament, I believe I gave it a 9, for the reason that he was actually THERE, and did some excellent writing.. explaining Maynard's style of play was invaluable information. |

Actually, I've been thinking about this whole BR business for a long time. Way before BR.com came online, I ran my own very loose BR forum. It was basically a forum like my own where the start of each thread had to be a BR. This lasted for quite some time until battlereports.com came online, then I started directing people there because it was obviously more suited for cataloguing BRs. However, while I *love* that the BR quality is going waaay up these days, I also am sad because the reports that don't have stellar pictures and grammar and stuff like that don't get reported. On the other hand, I see on other forums that people will write little battle reports about interesting stuff they've learned, and I sometimes get more out of those than the really eye-catching and well-written ones here. I'm not saying these are bad, but I think those are equally useful, if such a claim can be made.
In terms of Whoop and Grr... : Like I said before, I think you should feel free to post anything that has some educational value. If you play a game against Grr..., that almost automatically makes it worth posting :-). I'm not saying that this report should get a 9 or 10, but I do object to comments that say stuff like "this report sucks rocks" ;-), *especially* the comments that imply that it shouldn't have been made.
I guess in conclusion, my main point is that I'm glad for the existance of this report. Sure I would give it a 5 or a 6 or whatever, but it's nice that it's here *because* it is against Grr and *because* I learned something from reading the report, so I react negatively to comments that discourage people from writing these sorts of reports.

It all goes to the meaning of your rating system. Are you rating the report itself or who wrote/who is in it?
As it stands this report has a higher rating than T-Geno's report on T-bard vs Maynard. To me this just boggles the mind.
Its not about the time either. If it takes you five hours to put up a crappy report than too bad... If it takes you 1.25 hours to put out good quality then you are a good reporter. Do you think a newspaper judges their reporters by how much time they spent on it?
Was this report newsworthy? yes it was. Was I disapointed to read it? no. Was this report well written and of quality? sorry but my answer has to be no. Did I learn anything about Grrr's tactics? again no (Read YRM's report instead).
It is obvious to me you guys need to establish a standard by which you rate BRs. Imagine if the rating was like a school mark. you need to break down the elements that make a good BR and assign partial marks as each element is met. If you want, you may drop the lesser mark (so a BR woth no pics can still get a 10).
Again, for newsworthiness this BR gets a 10. in all other categories however...

But in this br it was from whoop's perspective, and all we knew about grrr... is that 'he made a lot of goons'. And that certainly isn't anything interesting, whether those goons were made by grrr or some chobo.

Wow, what an interesting discussion :-). I think the BR staff has commented before that ratings aren't meant to be an incredibly strict standard by which reports are measured. In my last Snowcraft report, I got 2 10's, a 9's, and an 8. I could go on all day about why the standards are so different that one 2 people give me a 10 and one person gives me an 8, but the fact is that there is no standard and hence you are relying on the subjectivity of the rater.
The number that gets stamped on there is simply the opinion of each BR staffer, using whatever qualifications he/she values, and there is no objective standard and there has never been an attempt at one. I don't mean to stick words into the BR staff's mouth, I am not imposing standards myself, I am simply commenting on what I think is happening.
I suggested once that the raters judge things by specific categories (graphics, grammar, newsworthiness, reviewer's tilt), as is done on things like videogamespot.com, so that the rationale behind the ratings is much clearer, but that might be too "excessive" given how things are supposed to be relatively informal here.
I think main point is to say that we shouldn't get worked up by report standards, since it is *supposed* to not be a big deal and is admittedly a very subjective ballpark thing. My main issue was more toward the absolute comments that readers make implying whether they think a report is legit or not. I think it's perfectly fine to have said something like, "The report was valuable, but I think the writing sucks rocks and it would be cool if you could have included more detail and spell checked if time permitted."

Sorry if I offended people who think I deserved I 5 or a 6, well actually im not SORRY I think you people need to complain about something more worthwhile like child labor or Bally's Total Fitness ripping people off. Actually If I were to rate this I would give it a 5 probably, but I don't generally agree with my fellow raters. I would LIKE to comment on Grrr's tactics but really, he just made a lot of goons/zeals. Thats all folks. He made a LOT. He was unable to attack with them though because Ahscar had lurkers and I of course had numerous tanks on my ledge.
Crow spent a lot of money early on containing us which probably slowed him from expanding earlier.
2v2 isnt so much about tactics on smaller maps its really about surviving the rushing stages which can last a long time and using some tech when you can. |

Now to take the other side of the coin.
This report is now rated 6.8. On a busy day, I might just pass over and not read it.
THIS WOULD BE A MISTAKE.
If we take the original reason why this rating system was devised, namely to allow people to wade through the Morass of BRs to fin some worth reading, then this BR maybe one of the most important ones currently on the page.
Would another tag be of help? while the rating could serve to judge the BR's quality, the editor's choice stamp could denote BRs which the admins feel are a must read because of their newsworthiness or involvement with the SC community at large.
