I rarely post comments (not that anyone would care) but I was thoroughly impressed with the way you wrote these three reports...

Starcraft needs demos like AoK, it would rock to be able to watch these guys play.

Alabama in the Orange Bowl. They looked pretty impressive over Florida... hope we can win...

hey Shadow, i'm normally not a big fan of story reports, but all three of these were really neat... I was thoroughly impressed with your very well thought out story line while still giving good attention to the game itself.
Way to go Ice =)

This was absolutely one of the best battle reports ever (all three of them), keep'em coming! I usually never read reports that "talk" to much about anything besides the actual game play but your story writing was superb I really enyojed the reading. I would probably have given you a 9 for each report but if I where to grade the whole serie I would give you 10+.

Keep up the good work!

I liked the story and everything, but what I didn't like was the fact that you only covered one side (always Pillar's). It would have been better had you covered a little of Cherry's gameplay point of view, as well.

Jeez, I really wanted to read about the game, but this report was just too painful. I'm really not sure what the hell even happened in the game. Can we create a section for battle reports for "creative writers" so I can avoid this junk in the future? I want to read about the game, the strategies, the build orders, etc.

As with Iced-tree, I am not personally fond of the fiction reports; I usually skip them. However, your blending of entertaining fiction and non-fiction match detail was very enjoyable; it kept me reading and anxious for more. Please post the 2nd chapter again so we can see the Ani.GIF.

Definitly do more reports like these!

Cheers,
D~F

For a "friendly" match between two players that isn't part of a tournament, story is ok, but for a tournament match people usually are more interested in what strategies, build orders... and story reports are usually harder to follow. Next time if you do a i2e2 tournament do a regular report it was kind of hard to follow.

hey LloydCarr, living in Ann Arbor there is only ONE possible outcome for the orange bowl, MICHIGAN DOMINATION. They are gonna dominate to the extent i dominate in starcraft.

IceShadow and I spoke the other night... and he was confused about the pro-con opinion on the fictional theme.

Again, I think it comes down to this. Fictional theme makes a game more interesting when it's two mediocre players. Fictional theme makes the strategy harder to extract when it's two world class players.

That said, do your thing. The style is good. These comments come from personal preference rather than based on anything being wrong with the style.

I'm going to go rate all these reports now. I think they are probably 8-9 rated reports in spite of any preferences.

Well, time to respond in posts...

First of all, these games weren't great. A five-paragraph battle-report could have summarized the strategies used in them. All three games were over in under 30 minutes.

Secondly, as hard as it is for me to note a build order, it's three times as hard when I'm the only official there, and I have to do all the official reffing duties as well as take notes for the battle report.

Finally...as I've stated...many, many times...I can't write normal reports. I've tried. I fail. This is the kind of report that I can write, where I don't have to concentrate on the build orders, etc. and can make the report interesting anyway. Maybe it was a mistake for the owners of this site to recommend me for a tournament ref (and after all this controversy, I doubt I'll be nominated again), or maybe they just didn't realize that this is the only kind of report I can write (although at the time, I'd written two story reports that got above 8.0, and one normal report that got a 6.0.) Either way, this is what I did, and this is what I can do. I apoligize if you don't approve.
