An excellent piece of workmanship. I laughed, I cried I didn't know who woud win, but you gotta figure the "p-O-lice" never catches them Duke boys. In fact this report should get a ten just for mentioning the Dukes of Hazzard. The only thing missing from this report was Goober. Other than that, Rock on.

Sorry Kadabra. Ok... the animated gif with the awesome psi and 8 wraiths blowing up is Kadabra's screen. I was looking elsewhere and he got the screenshots for it. I'm so sorry man. I did get to see the marquee before it wiped out my browser... so I can at least comment on that. This may be the first report to so heavily saturate itself with a non-starcraft theme, and the marquee looked good.
I don't recommend the Papyrus Font with Dukes of Hazzard... I'd probably go with a extra bold san serif of some type.
Papyrus = Gothic, torn edge, bloody battle, etc...
Dukes = Big, bold, funny, etc... a round serif font could have also been better.
Would I tell this to someone else? probably not... but you put alot of time/talent/effort into your pics.
Of course keep writing reports! Sheesh, only I'm allowed to fake retire from BR writing. Your stuff is great. Do you need to do quite this much to get a 9+ rating? maybe not... I'll let you know when I get home and can see the whole thing.
We could keep pushing the envelope about what can be added to a report... I could add flash animations or quicktime movies or java pop outs or rollover pictures for every pic... BUT, I don't think a report has to be MEGABYTEs big to be a top report. I'm saying this as the file size of reports seems to be continuously growing, and I feel partially responsible (even though I limited my file sizes pretty heavily)
I'll probably get home and really love this report though... can't wait to read it.

Wow.... words of encouragement from YRM... I can't wait to hear how you, and everyone else for that matter, likes the report.
The font. Well, the thing is that this is the 4th report on this game, i did the pics on the first one. I was gonna do a side by side detail/summary thing, but then i wanted to do side by side POV's from each side, then my roomate asked about what kind of crap was on tv and it was Dukes. So this is kind of a lesson to him for calling it crap. Anyways, I had the pictures for the first one and all my extra comments in the text were old english stuff. By the time the 4th version came around I kept it and said screw changing the pics. Sorry i'm that lazy. Lol.
And the reason this is so big. THE ONLY REASON I LET THIS GO 1MEG+ is because this is the first sound/music report, and I felt it should be the biggest also. I'll probably keep em around 500k from now on. And I'm not faking retirement. I'm seriously debating whether or not to keep writing, but after all this great praise from everyone, I'll probably keep doing them, and keep doing new stuff.
I agree with you on the media thing too, you can only go so far. However, I think the sound/music codes in this one will be copied and pasted elsewhere and hope used creatively. But one thing to keep in mind on any battle report, regardless of size, is that the battlereport comes first. Hell, i went through 3 or 4, can't remember now, before I got this one how i liked it. I'm proud of this report, even if it does get a 2 somehow, this is the favorite of all of my reports (all 3 now, lol) and was the funnest to write. Well... time to think of something new to do for the next one! Thanks again YRM. |

It was definitely a groundbreaking report. Some excellent battle shots... the wraiths blowing up was sooo cool. The sound and the theme were very creative.
Something about it bugged me though. I don't know, maybe I'm in a minority here, but all this flashy stuff draws attention away from the actual game that was played. I think there were two things that confused me and made this a tougher read.
1) The unstoppable banjo. It was distracting, I scrolled up and down the report a couple of times looking for a stop button. Maybe I have attention deficit disorder or something, but that banjo music distracted me from the actual report. The sound bites were really cool though. They were appropriate and fit into the story line.
2) Using the colors red and blue instead of the actual player colors. Once again, maybe my brain isn't as developed as other people's, but IMHO, it was confusing to me. I kept looking over to the minimap for red and blue and all I saw were yellow, orange, etc...
I don't mean to sound so critical. The graphics, the HTML and everything were amazing and far beyond my limitted programming capabilities (I've written all my br's using notepad, paintbrush, and MS photo editor). I'm just saying that all this pizzazz distracted me from the actual game that was played.
That's why, if I was a rater, I would have given the report a nine.

Don't look at me EggFoo... I didn't rate it yet. I'm kind of torn... wanding out the white and doing the expand fill black behind the pictures turned out pretty neat. The music didn't bother me, it was funny... parts of the report were just hillareous... that animated gif of the wraiths dancing was mondo cool, the other animated gif in the marquee border was cool... all that stuff is way in your favor.
The flash sounds wouldn't work for me, and I have the flash plugin. The battle was confusing to follow at times. There seemed to be several styles fighting for my attention, as the "border" style graphics weren't exactly country and western looking.
What are we sitting here talking about? We aren't talking about whether this kicked ass... cuz it did. We are talking about, was it a 10 because it had more stuff in it than ever and a funny theme. I am waivering between a nine and a 10, cause having an occasional report like this really gets people thinking about what they could do.
One time, people were comparing my old report style with CattleBruiser's style... probably unfairly, but he set the standard, so those things happen... anyway, some people suggested that we write a Co-Authored report. Someone else suggested that the love icecream - (me) and they love fine wine - (CB) but they wouldn't mix them. Of course, I can write in different styles too, but no one knew it at the time... where I am going with this ramble is:
You've got alot of GREAT stuff here: pizza, icecream, candy, soda, chocolate milk, beer, a shot of JD, etc... they all are great, but the combination is a little more than what you might want in your diet.
There's my serious critique for a seriously enjoyable report... I'll probably give it a 10, just because it got some 9's already and I don't think the rating should go lower... and I'd like to rate it. I'm sure alot of people don't agree with the stuff I've said here, but remember, it's not a put-down or flame at all. This a highly unique report, and you deserved to know why it might have been slightly less than a 10 after all this effort.

Thanks excaliber for the tips, as well as everyone else who has offered advice on what to improve. Rest assured all will be used in the next report. Here's some things I want to reply to... and tease you guys to WINK WINK...
Supergeneral:
1: slang - part of the theme. I'm one of those strange people that will do themey stuff, so if i do something canadians prepare to be annoyed by mounty references and eh's.
2: The banjo. MUHAHAHAAA... since it was the first time sound was used, i wanted it to symbolize the unstoppable force sound will make in my future reports (also, i had trouble on my computer with the autoplay when the control panel was visible.... i found a fix since then, it's just touchy)
3: Going all out on the theme is my style. I'm trying to get as many people as possible to enjoy my battlereports and I beleive an entertaining theme brought all the way through is good. No point in having a theme if you don't use it.

And the report will be more reporty without losing the theme (that's right, no name changes, no slang, a regular report that enhances the theme). Not gonna be themed to a tv show, it's gonna be something new again! Start drooling.

| You can compete with all these great writers. Hell, I'm still trying to compete. Trust me, watch a game, take some screens, and open up notepad and begin writing. Once you finish, come back to it in two days and fix it. Then throw in HTML and post it. That's what I do. Then you ask what's wrong with it and how it could be improved, copy that into a notepad file and write another report. Two days later, proof read your report, open your notepad file and for each greivance reread your report keeping your eyes open to it. And don't worry about fancy shmancy stuff. Maybe I should do a guide. LOL |

| I hate sound, not neccessarily yours in particular. Once I heard the first note the speakers went right off. Oh and make the pictures less abstract, with a touch of blandness. Themes are bad too, well Starcraft themes are sort of acceptable but not really. I guess I just like a simpler report where the text itself and the stuff shown in the pictures matters. You know, text describing stuff with a lot of minimaps so you can see the whole overall picture. |

Aaah... eye candy that doesn't stop giving, and a hilarious banjo theme.=] The game rocked, and the report skimped on clarity, but the theme's oddness and uniquenss overcame all problems, I say.
Incidentally, now I finally know the two that discouraged me from ever playing 2 v 2s again. I wander innocently into 'nh' and get pounced on by amber and ahscar and put with someone i don't know as my partner.
