Wow, Praetor wrote a War2 BR. I'm assuming he's played the game so the BR will probably be good, but more importantly..

<h1>First comment!!!</h1>

#2 Laean (dtkim.reshall.ucsd.edu)[14711]
i just got into RTS straight from starcraft, instead of starting from war2, like most RTS players. sounds like a fun game, maybe i should try it. oh and you got your pants stolen? man...some weird people at sd...i thought that kinda stuff happened only in berkeley where all the freaks are.
#3 Crazylisk (CPE-24-192-11-253.vic.bigpond.net.au)[14712]
Cool report, cool green rules!!!!!!!!!!
GO THE MAGE =)

Crazylisk, the Mad and Insane ONE

#4 .Praetor (fjwilson.reshall.ucsd.edu)[14713]
Good job, Persian-POW =).

Laean, I find it kind of odd myself. On the other hand, it is rather odd that I forget my laundry all the time. I've actually forgotten it in the dryer overnight TWICE.

Thanks, Crazylisk.

#5 Rumpelstiltskin (195.100.123.12)[14714]
Great BR... makes me miss playing War2... no, wait, I sucked at War2... ok, makes me wanna go play SC... no way, I suck at that too... hmm... oh well, great BR anwyay...

/Rump

#6 Raistloaf (gw.gjensidige.no)[14717]
Well done, warlord.

I look forward to the day when this edition enters the stores in the ancient kingdom of Norway.

#7 (relay.atinc.com)[14720]
Very enjoyable. I wonder, if I went back in time with everything I've learned about macro the hard way... how I would do on the ZoneLAN. That was my first RTS online experience. I won about half of my games at that time.

My favorite was sending invisible mages into several peon lines at once and hitting them in very quick succession.

Unlike SC, the only thing that can see an invisible mage was a DeathKnight right? Towers didn't see them I don't think, and neither did flying machines.

I also remember winning games with Bloodlusted/Hasted dragons. (if you could use them before the spells wore off)

.Praetor, did you ever find a practical use for fireball? Blizzard is just so much better.

#8 [5th]Krebster (spider-tj022.proxy.aol.com)[14734]
Well looks like we have the best warcraft report so far
Ok gryphon rushes are only valid because of the popularity of ogres/bloodlust and the pschological effect it has on your opponent.
They should be used more as a harass than as a main attack force and are good in conjunction with knights and magi.

There are a few good ways to stop gryphons i.e. axethrowers towers but.. the way i usually use is whirlwind (I hope kadabra reads this cuz in his opinion whirlwind sucks.)
not only does it do damage ...BUT... it stops them from taking commands rendering them useless as long as they are trapped in the wirlwind where as if they were in D&D they could quickly fly out even though it doesnt last that long anyway.

As far as fireball is concerned i think it has its uses i've just yet to find them. =]

#9 T.T.Boy (ncache1.ford.com)[14741]
Another great report from .Praetor (spelled correctly this time)
#10 .Praetor (fjwilson.reshall.ucsd.edu)[14743]
You'd reign supreme on the ZoneLAN, YRM =).

As for invisible mages... Nothing can see them =). Ain't it great? Same for invisible transports. The only way to find out where they are is by a flame sheild on said unit, or when it interferes with the pathing of your units. Once you find out where it is, the only think that can hurt the invisible unit is area-effect damage or: Death Coil, attack ground with catapult or battleship.

Bloodlusted and hasted dragons are evil. Destroyers and mages are still cost-effective though. If you have a partner that can heal those bloodlusted and hasted dragons... that's better than scouts with shield batteries =).

Use for fireball.... You can click directly on the enemy unit. I killed Pure's last ogre with a fireball. (Ack, he found my mage. Uh... fireball!) My experience, though, is that fireball is only useful when I have mages, but have not researched any spells. If you're using fireball, that's a bad sign. Maybe if it was 50 mana....

Whirlwind? I don't know.... Unlike fireball, you have to research whirlwind. It might actually be worse. Does do a number on gryphons, but D&D still better.

Thnaks T.T.Boy, Raistloaf.
#11 Dev (reshall-138-179.oit.edu)[14744]
I've always enjoyed your reports, .Praetor... they have that perfect touch of humility and humor to make you realize that this is just a game... a silly one, in fact... but you can have WAY too much fun playing it.

Oh, and you rock in FFA's and War2, too.
#12 (relay.atinc.com)[14746]
This is cool, we are starting to get good reports on other games.

I kind of liked Whirlwinds in mass. If you could get in close enough to lay down alot of them, they last FOREVER, and they move around, forcing the enemy to micromanage his troops, ships, peons out of the way. Whirlwinds absolutely RULE ships, which can dodge D&D fairly easily. They have limited use, but they can be very effective on the right type of map.

Um... deathknights CAN see invisible mages. Unless they changed it on the BNE... I am sure that DKs can spot the mages no matter what.

Anyway, great job.
#13 .Praetor (fjwilson.reshall.ucsd.edu)[14748]
Thanks Dev! It's always flattering to know someone likes your style =).

You make some good points YRM. I never thought about using Whirlwind on ships. Also, I never knew DK's could see mages. I swear I've just walked by a few. Can mages see invisible mages?
#14 [5th]Krebster (spider-tj014.proxy.aol.com)[14755]
Ahhh there my freakin points
#15 Eggfoo-young (r67h91.res.gatech.edu)[14761]
I remember back before starcraft in the old Kali days if noone build barracks first (fixed now i think) then the games would end up being big ogre mass parties. But the game usually ended once someone got a little lead.

And the whole point of this comment is that little lead. I remember once i gradually built up deathknights, sneeaked em in, and launched as many whirlwinds as i could near his biggest production facilities. 4 or 5 will completely trash his city. It's awesome. That's what we did back then anyways on large resource maps.
#16 Pitt (res6486.student.nd.edu)[14762]
I think I remember something about whirlwind just wrecking boats :) I don't remember why or how though... I enjoyed using fireball on incoming lines of troops seeing how it did that mild splash damage. I think I just used it as a last ditch effort type of thing though. I was more of an O-tower/catapult/footmen guy. The tank push of war2 :)
#17 (relay.atinc.com)[14776]
Hrmm... strangely, I am the one who gave this report, and Dev's a 10.0. Granted much of the strength of the 10 is originality. I don't recall a poem report, ever, and I could follow the game, AND I was highly entertained.

I also gave this report a 10.0 because it's the best WarII BNE report I've read. I really enjoyed reading this, period... I was literally hanging on every word, and it made me want to buy War II BNE.

The AOK report up there I haven't rated yet, but it's a similar type of situation, new game, new look, etc...

We are breaking alot of new ground today it seems.
#18 (relay.atinc.com)[14777]
Although... I'm not sure if I'd have handed out the 2 tens if it was unrated. .Praetor knows what I mean.
#19 Mark4 (strangers.bragg.army.mil)[14780]
This was yet another great text report by Praetor. I don't agree with YRM on the ten, but that's the beauty of the rating system. Still, I almost think I could do multiplayer war2 now =]
#20 Johnny_Vegas (control.ahnet.net)[14791]
Hey nice report man. It's always a challenge beating an orc as human once he gets bloodlust. I was outplaying this one orc the other day, and once bloodlust came around there was nothing I could really do to stop it. grr... Gryphons are a good idea though. It takes a long time to get mages, and a good Orc player will kick your head in if you rush to them. Nicely written report.
#21 (relay.atinc.com)[14793]
Mark4, normally I wouldn't give an all text report a 10... unless some effort was put into a very nice HTML type "style" with subheads, colors, etc, done in a very clear and not overdone manner...

It just grabbed me and drew me in... I was just following a day in the life of Fred Wilson or something. I guess it was more of a gut hunch for me... by no means is that something that every rater is going to get. I guess it's why you gave the PLCs a 10... they drew you in.

I like our rating system by the way. It's not perfect, but the imperfections are balanced, and lead to interesting discussion.
#22 <font face="comic sans ms" font color="blue">TheTeckMan (user-2ivecnh.dialup.min[14796]
<font face="comic sans ms" font color="blue">"Yes... Blizzarding peon lines is more addicting <u><b>that</b></u> doing crack." typo ;) just wanted to point that out. this br inspired me to reinstall War2 on my new comp and if I had the time I'd actually by it but I don't, nor do I have the money (just bought dreamcast=$0 and btw buy a dreamcast who cares if it bombs it ownz!)anyway, <font color="#aabbcc">.Preator</font> and <font color="red"AQD3</font> make the best BRs. #24 BomberII15 (spider-ta076.proxy.aol.com)[14800]
Great report. I get to play W2 on my friend's network, but that's it, it's fun anyway. As sI said good report. BTW you asked where the phrase kingdom come, comes from, it means "Heaven" y'know Heaven for you christian people out there (I'm Jewish I just know this stuff =) is the KINGDOM that COMES after life, so to blast someone to kingdom come is to blast 'em to heaven. Why did you just read this inane comment? It's true though.

Later
BomberII15 (Master of factual, inane comments)
#25 Odin (cf1.tor.accglobal.net)[14815]
well good report man
and even lesser known fact
BLIZZ AND D&D DO EXACTLY THE SAME DAMAGE
everyone bitches that they dont but they do
=P
frick
they do same damage
sometimes me may SEEM diff because the pixels of damage always do land in differnet places so they can do different damage per throw
so just dont let that fool ye =P
#26 DFA (PPPa3-JacksonvilleB8-3R2011.saturn.bbn.com)[14819]
Great Report .Praetor!! I didn't have time to read all the comments i'll do that over the girls house, but this report makes WAR2 sound somewhat good...hehe Keep it up you silly humble scribe you

DFA
#27 .Praetor (fjwilson.reshall.ucsd.edu)[14821]
I gave Dev's poem a 10.0 too YRM. Much the same reasons. Though I have to admit, I had you pegged as the person who gave me the 9.0! Must have been T.T.Boy with the 9.

Now I must hunt down the person who gave me a 7.

Grrr.

Johnny, actually Blizzard comes at the same point in the tech tree as bloodlust. The problem, of course, is that the Orc player has twenty or so Ogres ready to be transformed to Ogre-Magi, whereas you only have a mage or two ready.

Nice job on catching the type Teckman. Of course, you spelled my name wrong... =)
#28 MikeyMonty (spider-tm021.proxy.aol.com)[14824]
You know, I can honestly say I enjoy .Praetor's stuff more than even YRM's. When he rights, it like sucks you in. Great as always Prae.
#29 MikeyMonty (spider-tm021.proxy.aol.com)[14827]
Stupid me, that's writes, not rights.
I always make that mistake.
#30 Fractal_Wave (proxy1.gvcl1.bc.wave.home.com)[14829]
Damn, why havn't I bought BNE yet? This report brings back all the fun of War2 for me....removing an ~entire~ town with solid sappers, owning a FOC game with submarines. Aahhh memeories.

.Praetor, this is a damn good report. Blizzard owns us all.
And yes, the time we put into writing huge reports is so worth it. I feel like I've validated my existence on this planet by producing stuff that people like to read.

'blown to Kingdom Come' means that the object was blown all the way to the time when the Kingdom of Jehovah has come. Quite some ways, in both the physical & temporal planes....

;)

All the best,
Fractal_Wave
#31 Cashew-of-Doom (sktnsk01d05170162.sk.sympatico.ca)[14835]
Ok, after trying to type awesome for 3 minutes at the start of this, I gave up. Silly me. This reports is great, as always .Praetor. Anyway, this report almost makes me want to learn how to play war2 beyond the level of sucking and get bne before diablo 2, though not quite...
Sweet report, of course.
#32 (relay.atinc.com)[14893]
<I>You know, I can honestly say I enjoy .Praetor's stuff more than even YRM's. When he rights, it like sucks you in. Great as always Prae. - Mikey Montey</I>

You know, sometimes I think, 'boy, I spent a lot of time on this site. And it took me a thirteen hours to write that report. I've got a project for AT&T due tomorrow. Should I really spend so much of my time writing various pictured stories and reports on a game?'

Then I read comments like MikeyMonty's and I think 'how can you betray me Mikey?'

Thanks a bunch... *snif*

YOUR role model,
'YRM'

P.S. Had me pegged did you .Praetor... my joking about 9.0s has given me an undeserved reputation.
#33 AoS.... (207.245.119.90)[14894]
Stunning. WRITE ANOTHER ONE!! hehe
#34 Johnny_Vegas (control.ahnet.net)[14939]
I like Praetor's and YRM's both. I enjoy text reports, but I think the bread and butter is the YourRoleModel rollercoaster riding extravaganza reports!! wwwwoooooooooohaaaaaaaaaa!!!
#35 MikeyMonty (spider-wb023.proxy.aol.com)[14962]
Don't be hurt YRM. Obviously you hold a special place(along with your however many tens by now). But I really do love Praetor's stuff.......
Its like the difference between movies and books.
I enjoy a good book more than a good movie
But movies are more exciting.
So dry your eyes and write a few more!
#36 .Praetor (fjwilson.reshall.ucsd.edu)[14976]
Not so much because of the jokes YRM, but you're a graphics man. So... I would tend to think you value graphics in a report.

And thanks everyone else for the support as well.
#37 Warphead (johnny.bath.ac.uk)[15024]
.Praetor and YRM... who will win the fight? =)

Btw, .Praetor, Moo2 still rocks Civ2. =)
#38 ,Praetor (fjwilson.reshall.ucsd.edu)[15053]
YRM, he's got those rating robots....

And Civ2 is still the best of that genre... But I'd beat you in both games =)
#39 Warphead (johnny.bath.ac.uk)[15060]
Ooh, a challenge? If I wasn't stuck behind a firewall I accept, but until I get my own connection I'm afraid I'll have to let that one stand... grrr...

<font size="+2">Moo2 >> Civ2</font>

I <B>WILL</B> win!

;)
#40 SuperGeneral (cr732571-a.pr1.on.wave.home.com)[15076]
Praetor, you do the text
YourRoleModel, You do the pics
=
11.0

It could happen.
Do it already!
#41 .Praetor (fjwilson.reshall.ucsd.edu)[15235]
Someone gave me a 10 on this. Yee haw! This means I got a 7,8,9, and 10. Heh.
#42 .Praetor (fjwilson.reshall.ucsd.edu)[15236]
Wait, I already knew that YRM gave me a 10. Doh! I'm all over the place here, people. Time to get offline and do homework... while I'm still befuddled....

Criminy.
#43 {indoe} (1Cust107.tnt1.portland.or.da.uu.net)[15332]
just to clear up some strategy for you SC pro's who obviously have been away from war2 for a while.

going gryphons sucks because 1 dk will end the threat forever and if you can rush at all the 1 rax 1 arrow tower defense would get owned.

blizzard does more damage to units that decay. that is why mages are better.

fireball is useless. dont use it. cast 4 blizzards over a fireball any day. and if the fireball could kill a unit with one shot the mage probably could have too without using any mana.

praetor: im not sure whether you did this or not because of the lack of screenshots, but build your walled in tower 1 space away from you farms so the peons can repair it.

nice to actually see a good war2 report.
#44 Odin (cf1.tor.accglobal.net)[15334]
BLIZZARD DOESNT DO ANYMORE DAMAGE
arg
they do the same
the damage can be random because for each throw of the spell the pixels of damage can wind up in different places but THEY DO EXACTLY THE SAME DAMAGE
and dont even try to argue it
im right
tested n tried or whatever
since damage is random it can do more damage sometimes or less on the other hand but they are exactly the same spell
dont let anyone tell u diff
#45 Snowreaver (206.152.157.250)[15903]
Uh, yes, Blizzard does more damage vs Units and DnD does more against buildings, as Praetor stated in his report. Some of those 'SC Pros' were War2 'Pros' for even longer, so I'm pretty sure they know what they're talking about. To put down your point though.. how is one DK going to own a gryphon posse? DnD wont do it, and Deathcoil sure as hell wont. Gryphons dont attract Whirlwinds the way ships do, so they can move out of the way. And the nice thing about Gryphs - They can fly back and pick up heals from some friendly Pals, provided you took the time to get healing.

The problem with rushing on GoW is that it's a large, winding map with 8 possible starting locs. If you're not playing fixed order, it's almost impossible to find your opponent in a 1v1 unless you're a lucky bastard.

To be honest, I can't remember how much damage fireball does or if it has any use at all. But I do remember one incident where I had a pair of mages sinking battleships with fireballs.. don't remember if I was being a bastard or if I was drunk again. :>

Good report, Praetor. If I hadn't just played 2 solid days of War2 I might have foregone the babble I just spat out.
