laDDER IS NOT WORTH IT BRO, TOO MANY DISCERS AND ABUSERS, MELLE IS THE WAY TO GO. nICE WRITING STYLE, IF YOU JUST HAD PICS TO GO WITH THIS BR, IT WOULD MAKE THE REPORT THAT MUCH BETTER.
#2 AQD3[13058]
Play ladder for fun, not for points and you won't be dissappointed.
#3 Silent Strike (248.freehold-08-09rs.nj.dial-access.att.net)[13059]
I totally agree with you on the fun part for ladder.

As for the corsair "rush" on land, it is not a strategy that I like to use. Simply put, you go corsairs vs hydras and you are hurting severely. I almost always go archives first against zerg. Psi storm vs hydras, almost a neccesity really. Archons for anti muta/ling. Speed upgrade for zealots, helps against zerglings/hydras, more so the latter.
Dark templar to hold off ground attacks before overlord speed upgrade. Templar is really the only way to counter everything a zerg player can throw at you early. Add a forge for a cannon or two and the +1 upgrade for anti-ling zealots and you got yourself an efficent pool of anti-zerg units.

I like your writing style. Good stuff. I enjoy reading your reports.

I can relate to trying to get up to 1200 and away from the lamers. All I can say is to hang in there. You've got the skills. You'll be above 1300 before you know it.

#5 T.T.Boy (ncache1.ford.com)[13061]
Put in one of your letters to Blizzard that disconnect should equal loss for the A**H*** and win for the non-disconnecter. That would be so much better. I don't know why they don't do this.

Great report. Excellent verbal discription of the battles. Even without personification of units and snappy banter I like the way I can feel your emotions ebb and flow throughout the game.

#6 JSH (nscs40p1.remote.umass.edu)[13064]
I just want to say don't get frustrated and give up because there are enough people out there who just surrender and not disconnect. Also never play during server splits, it's a good way for your games to go unrecorded. When you play tons of games a few disconnects aren't that bad.
#7 T_Mac (on-tor-blr-a58-01-1034.idirect.com)[13067]
haha, what does it say when i read this br before my own :P
#8 AQD3[13068]
I play for the fun JSH, but if I played for the points the 50% discoonect rate so far this season would frustrate me.
=[

Any thoughts on recon vrs a zerg SS? I respect your tactical opinions above almost everyone else because of your skill. Only Whoop is higher. =]

Thanks to the people who complimented me on my writing style. I try to just put down what I'm thinking during the game. Giving names to your units isn't something you actually do in a game so I stay away from that.

#9 Warphead (johnny.bath.ac.uk)[13072]
<i>"I was thinking about giving up. My economy was screwed. I was going to have a bad problem countering his air units. A lot of players would have given up. But in the end, there is always someone better than you. Someone will always get lucky, will use the perfect counter to your strat, have better macro, better micro, click faster… Probably half the people reading this are better players than me. It doesn’t really matter if you win or lose a game of starcraft…. But quitting becomes a habit that can carry over to real life. So when you have your back to the wall you dig a little deeper and show your enemy that even though he might win, he isn’t going to get it for free just because he got a little ahead."</i>

*snif*

I think that paragraph is the reason this BR should get a 10

Honest.

#10 T_Mac (on-tor-blr-a58-01-1034.idirect.com)[13074]
What do you think of my tactical opinion?
#11 AQD3[13075]
If I ever need to differentiate bewteen different degrees of "gayness" or "cheese" you'll be the very first person I call Tmac. =]

Also, as you are the resident expert on disconnecting can you offer any advice on how to get people to stop disconnecting on me? I just wish you disconnected that one time I played you for ladder =[

#12 MIkeyMonty (spider-wj013.proxy.aol.com)[13076]
Great report. I seem to find that when a toss player gets his temp archives up and a good amount of gas, the odds of winning as zerg drop astronomically. The archive covers the toss well from mutas, hydras, and zerglings.
More reports!
#13 Silent Strike (248.freehold-08-09rs.nj.dial-access.att.net)[13077]
Reconning them zerg bastards is hard. Especially with 2 or 3 sunkens, you almost have launch a full fledged attack just to know whats up.

The zealot legs will give you a chance to run past the sunkens at least to a point to give you a feeling for what kinda of unit mix your going to be up against. Move a zealot through the sunken "forest" and if you are lucky you will get through to see the main, if not you probably will be able to see lots of lings a mutas or a crapload of hydras. In either case, at least you know what you are going to have to do. Against the muta/ling, merge some archons, make a shield bat (the ability to heal more than half an archon for 100 minerals is great), and possibly make a couple of cannons near your nexus('s).

It's tough though, I often fake a muta ling (make about 6 mutas) attack with them and then followup afterward about 2 dozen hydras front door.

I generally don't like dragoons vs zerg. They are large, so they take full damage from sunkens, they only do half damage to lings and mutas, 3/4s to hydras and lurkers. I only really add them in late game because they compliment templar better than archons/zealots.

Thanks for the generous comments about the skill though :-).
#14 AQD3[13078]
SS, when would you get speed zealots in relation to the following:
Attack upgrade
psi storm
templar archives
cannons
Against:
muta/ling
hydras
lurkers/ling

thanks for being so patient with my questions.
#15 Johnny_Vegas (staff-8.ahnet.net)[13079]
Great report and great game man. That was awesome how you turned the tide like that. Ever think about making a Shield battery or 2 for those corsairs? One time I killed 3 mutas with one corsair cause I had a shield battery at my main.. It kicked ass.

It's cool reports like this that makes the site good.
#16 JSH (nscs40p1.remote.umass.edu)[13080]
Well I will offer my opinions on how to figure out what Zerg is doing.

If your probe sees:
1 hatch, early pool, no gas: Um, Zergling rush. :)

1 hatch, early pool, early gas: Probably lurker rush. Check a minute later just to make sure.

Hatch at expansion: Probably going for mutas or muta/ling.

Hatch at ramp: This is probably 2 hatch lings/hydras.

The biggest problem I have is with mass hydras. I think zeal/temp is too weak so I'm working on goon/reaver. So far I've had success with that combo and like it much better.

If you really have no idea what's going on there is probably some tech. You might want to make 1 corsair and check the Zerg base for things like a spire/greater spire/hive etc. You may end up needing more corsairs in that case.

If you have no clue what to make I suggest dragoons. They are a good all-purpose unit. Support them with reavers and/or templar. Templar is safer and complements the moderate gas expenditure of dragoons.

You may also want to try out the early expand build sometime, it rox. :)
#17 TheRubberDucky (dfiatx100-044.dsl.gtei.net)[13088]
Argh...You totally own man. I hope your on later so that I can get my chance to play you zerg vs toss. It'll be a gg I know =] (Even though you'll hear me cussing about storm all the way through the game =] )
#18 T_Mac (on-tor-blr-a58-01-1034.idirect.com)[13090]
hahahaha, gayness owns you, those cannons at the ramp :D
#19 M.E.T.H.O.D.MAN (ideabox1.bestbuy.com)[13094]
I like to use hallucination for recon, but I suck at this game so this is only an idea, doubt it is a good one =(. My zerg sucks ass, my terran sucks ass, and my toss sucks ass, WAIT A MINUTE, I SUCK ASS!
#20 Silent Strike (248.freehold-08-09rs.nj.dial-access.att.net)[13095]
I am kinda a feel player, but I'll try to answer anyway.

Speed upgrade for zealots is imperative when you are going zealot vs hydra. No speed upgrade and you well have one hell of a problem trying to deal with more than a dozen hydras, especially if they are well controlled. If you see him go with like 2-3 hatch then gas and hydra den, hit with zealot/probes like you do so well then tech up to citadel, get the leg upgrade as soon as possible.

Totally skip the upgrade in terms of early to mid game against muta/ling. Get 1+ zealots and archons and you will be more than fine.

I cannon when I feel I am overpowered pretty heavily or I know mutas are coming. Cannoning near your nexus helps infinitely against the zerg wise ass muta harassers. If you see a lurker rush coming, expand fairly early with 2 gates then forge and cannon to guard your expansion. This is where you may want to deviate from the templar first build as you are really on equal footing with the zerg in terms of resources, or even possibly better. Having to "find" lurkers and then storm them is a pain. You can use a goon/reaver/ob combo against the lurkers and then inevitable muta/ling or hydras.

I am no great, but the templar first opening is the one I am most comfortable with because it let's you stop everything that is coming.
#21 Blank (220.hartford-11-12rs.ct.dial-access.att.net)[13102]
Err, I agree with Silent, go templar archive tech route, unless your playing on islands=]

Just felt like pointing something out about disconnects and ladder....

Aside from disconnecters, getting into the 1100's is fairly easy (I know players who 4pool'ed their way into the 1250's). Reporting someone with a 1050 someodd rating, IMO, is just a waste of time. You might get the player upset, but all he needs to do is win 2-3 games (under one of his many ladder accounts) and he's right back where he left off. I dunno, I just assume it's a waste of time. Of course, if he's a 1300 or higher ladder player, that'll probably really piss him off=] but lowly 1050's-900 (isn't be rated 900 worse than a ladder reset? =]) aren't worth the effort.

Oh well

Blank
#22 AQD3[13105]
If you don't try they won't learn. =[ It only takes a minute to find the game link and attach a screenshot, and it makes me feel better. I usually stop cursing under my breath by the time I'm done.
#23 ^~CrOnO~^ (ts1-06.f1802.quebectel.com)[13107]
It's simple if a disconnect=win for remaining players people would start to use nukes to make their opponent disconnect. Trust me I would like it too but it's too risky in my opinion..
#24 TheTeckMan (user-2ivec9m.dialup.mindspring.com)[13109]
<font face="comic sans ms"> Okay this font better work first of all. Secondly, you own <u>AQD3</u> you inspired me to take this game seriously (as of today...) I never disconnected and never will no matter what. You're brs own and they all deserve a 10!!!! they own YRM's so much it's not funny. Okay enough sucking up I gotta go.
#25 shockwave (exchange1.sensable.com)[13113]
Hmm, interestingly, I haven't had a problem with disconnectors up til around the 1200 range. Oh well, I may have just gotten lucky, but I only had 1 DC who was 1190 in the entire last season. I promptly joined his next game and then started trash talking him after his next opponent had joined (he hadn't closed off the other 2 slots yet :-b ). Heehee.

Anyway, I agree with AQD3, you don't report DC-ers in the 1000-1100 range to really set them back, you do it to punish them from DC-ing :-b.

Oh, and nice BR :-).
#26 MikeyMonty (spider-wk081.proxy.aol.com)[13114]
I also think temps first is a better way to counter hydras. if you'll scroll down to my last report(shameless plug) you'll see my opponent went reaver first. It stopped the hydras, but my mutas butchered his reavers and zeals. With temp first though, you are covered against lings, mutas, to a degree hydras, and you get the leg upgrade tech as well.

I suck at this game but that's just my two cents.
#27 Ronin (syru244-116.syr.edu)[13132]
UMM johnny, corsairs are toss. u are terran. how should i sum this up, liar liar pants on fire :] oh and noone read whoop's BR he's working on when he posts it i sux. i sux alot.

great report dude i enjoyed it most thoroughly.

#28 |RAID| (|Grimm|) (162.42.18.136)[13133]
Well, 50% win to enemy disconnection ratio isn't that bad, I probably have a 65-70% win to enemy disconnection ratio.... Then again, maybe I should stop harassing my enemies and beating them in particularly "angering" ways :). Overall though, I don't even report disc'ers, it just doesn't seem worth the time to me, and besides, I kindof find it funny when I beat someone so bad they disc. You just "know" their on the other end, telephone line in their hand, bitching and moaning to themselves about losing that damned game to that damned egomaniacal @$$hole (me). Don't take it too seriously, laugh it off, take it easy, drink gatoraid, wear nike (oh, damn subliminal messaging).
|RAID|
#29 WarSuoN (pool0547.cvx27-bradley.dialup.earthlink.net)[13144]
Excellent report. Like what Warphead said, that paragraph itself was so damn well written. You aren't an english major are you?! Well done!
#30 Whoop (pool0093.cvx10-bradley.dialup.earthlink.net)[13151]
As toss vs zerg on temple I personally tend to do what Soso did when he won the season and the cash. Basically you just pump mixed ground and templar and upgrade your ass off. I don't worry about ratios I just make whatever my resources will allow. Make sure the Zerg doesnt take the ENTIRE map and you'll be fine. The way temple is set up there really isnt much a toss player can do to assult you once you have enough templar. Don't overextend and play smart.
One thing you have never mentioned doing which is quite effective against mid level zerg players is psi raids. The best players will have scourge patrolling to prevent this but below 1400 you can put the hurt on an economy via this method.

Great report.
#31 Longlivethemac (gauntlet.ObjecTime.com)[13157]
On the topiv of recon, what really makes me annoyed as a zerg is when I waste scourge to get halucinated shuttles that are just scouts. The way i see it, the transacttion is almost always in the tosses favor. He either gets recon or makes you waste scourge (be they patroling or otherwies).

I remeber when i actually laddered. I quit cause I had a 80% disc ratio.
#32 AQD3[13168]
So Whoop has spoken, so shall it be. I will learn the ways of the psi raid.
#33 AQD3[13170]
Warphead and Warsuon, thanks for your comment on that paragraph. Sometimes we all get caught up in "What unit counters x" or "What strat is best against this" and lose sight of the fact that it's your fighting spirit and the principles of war that really matter in a fight. That's a real life lesson I brought to starcraft, and I'm taking it away again reinforced.
#34 Fractal_Wave (proxy1.gvcl1.bc.wave.home.com)[13185]
This man owns me. Seriously, having been in the same situation before, he handled it ~far~ better than I did, and against a much better player.

I'd love to have a 1v1 with you...my horrid Terran vs. your toss. would be cool.
=)
And great report.

All the best,
Fractal_Wave
#35 anal-banana (ns2.bridge.com)[13202]
AQD3, you have inspired me to try ladder. I've never tried it before but I'm going to start tonight. I really, really like your competitive style. Keep it up! Scrubs like me learn a lot from your reports.
#36 ']['amaraw (cisco8-s1.pacific.net.sg)[13205]
I don't hate temps, they're needed by the protoss. But abusive use of psi storm really pisses me off when playing zerg vs toss. The toss player doesn't need to think about counters against zerg. All a toss player have to do is make temps and random ground units and scout of course to prevent zerg from taking the map.

Temps counters anything a zerg could bring during mid-games - mutaling, mass hydra, hydra drop, lurks. A zerg can't amass powered cheap units mid game to take take out toss having temps. While toss could kill zerg using mid game tech level units - archons, reavers, temps, dark temps, corsairs or even masses of powered low level units.

Zerg goes air, ground, upgraded troops ----> toss counters easily using storm, and makes a dreadful combo of their own. :(

I'm not a good player but i'm terribly pissed off when an opponent abuses using temps against zerg. This game is supposed to be a game of counters.

But i'm happy to accept good tricks/tactics that could minimize the effects of storms against the zerg.

I really hate storm abuser vs zerg. Lowering the damage to about 75-80 would be good. Enough to kill hydras but not mutas/lurks in mid game.
#37 YourRoleModel (relay.atinc.com)[13210]
Nice report. I give all your reports 10.0s, they are much much better than mine by so much. Ok, I'll stop sucking up now. Did I mention, good job?
#38 [5th]Krebster (216.20.43.13)[13229]
Hmm zerg players bitch about psi storm
Hmm what stops psi storm
Hmm i dunno
Hmm broodling maybe
Hmm its amazing how many people think queens nests are only there so u can make hives
Hmm Hmm rules
#39 Silent Strike (217.freehold-06-07rs.nj.dial-access.att.net)[13255]
Actually, muta/ling doesn't lose all that harshly to templar.

With groups of 9+ mutas, you can swiftly fly over a temp, hit it all at once, it dies, and then flee. Of coarse, if it is accompanied by dragoons you will need more mutas for the hit and run, but mutas can still work.

Speed lings are hard to storm and usually don't cluster too badly, and they are fast as hell. Losing 6 lings to a storm isn't a big loss, even 12. Considering the protoss will have to storm his own units too.

Hydras are just a pain in the ass to use against storm. storm baiting is difficult vs anyone half decent.

Broodling is nice, but it is soo damn hard to use. Casting broodling upon 5+ temps might even be harder than just using anti-storm tactics, considering how damn small temps are.
#40 patheto (proxy.tct.net)[13266]
Check Starcraft.org for being enlightened by Atlas' tips on how to counter storm. They are NIFTY!
#41 Dagomar (206.191.91.45)[13322]
I'm really impressed at this report. It is GREAT! Even without pics, it's one of the best I've read. I love the not giving up bit, that was wonderful.

I'd give you a 9.5, but, I'm not a rater =)

By the way my ladder record is 6-5, but it says it's 2-4. The %$#@! thing NEVER records my wins!!!!!
#42 -(Oblivion)-[29134]
spider-ti044.proxy.aol.com
Ok this is my first time ever actually comenting on a Br but your reports are so great I thought I'd atleast say something about one. I feel the same way you do about giving up and I shake my head when people quit when the tide is even slightly against them(once I sent a probe in someones base and killed a peon so he quit). I'd like to actually meet you in a game one day(it'll never happen and you'll crush me anyways)so generally when do you play? I come on often and sometimes peek in nohunters for games but I never see you or anyone well known starcraft wise. Congradualations on another great Br(maybe one day I'll follow you as you seem to follow Whoop in the way of the Toss lol).
